- Today at Badgerworks, we look at the construction of the sea diorama for the HMS Queen Elizabeth battleship in 1/350 scale for fellow youtuber, @Drachinifel. Make sure you check out his channel dedicated to naval history here:

This base was built with no resin or other noxious chemicals, making it a lot more accessible for folks with limited resources or space.

I liked your idea a lot. I am building the 200 scale Arizona and I plan on doing something like this for her. I spent a lot of time rendering her honors when we went in and out of Pearl Harbor. Thanks
Very well done. Very entertaining !
Thanks :-)
I have just enjoyed watching your diarama building, very interesting indeed!
Thanks for the video series, as a new modeler you really taught me a lot.
Don't know why I like these videos, but I do. Always happy to see a new one.
I get that too - you watch something and enjoy it, but can't say why exactly :-)
Thank you for making this almost instructional video. Now i have an idea of how to make such a diorama for my Amati 1:200 Bismarck, Amati 1:200 Hood and Amati 1:200 Scharnhorst.
Thanks once again, a beautiful job all round. I can see why Drach would be pleased, that is a museum quality model.
Thanks :-)
Excellent waterline effect - good tip!! - Really enjoyed this video - thank you so much.
You're very welcome, thanks for watching :-)
Happy Trails bud, so glad you posted this. I was starting to get worried, Covid n all... Understand about the inspiration mine was all of 2020... Best wishes to you and the family ... Say Hello Katie:P
I appreciate the concern, but rest assured we're all good here. Merely a case of artist's block and hopefully that's behind us now :-)
That is a superbly crafted boat I mean ship and diorama, I'm always amazed by how good these things look after you get hold of them, Top job.
Thanks :-)
Void to the Bottom of the Sea.. very interesting and fab work
Thanks :-)
"do as I say kids not as I do". looks great fella
Cheers mate :-)
If I may be honest I wasn’t sure then I saw the end and omg it’s brilliant well done 👍
Thanks :-)
Think it looks fantastic. Great build and a great finish.
Good set of videos these - well worht watching again I think. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching :-)
You need a long Wake of White Water behind the Stern of the ship, from the Screws turning.
Awesome .
Thanks :-)
Hint: put the plastic wrap in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes or store it in there. It keeps it from tearing from sticking to itself too hard. I live in a tropical environment and we have to keep ours there.
Also, add a bit of acrylic paint to the filler to show where its been applied.
Good idea, although this wrap is very cheap and not very sticky anyway :-)
Very nice!
Thanks :-)
looks good, Very informative....
Thanks :-)
Sehr geil!!
🤤🤤🤤👍👍👍
Danke :-)
Looks good. Needs more of a wake.
The idea was the ship has slowed to recover the aircraft, but with the techniques I used, you could make the bow wave and wake as big as you like.
I see you creating the foam effects using white paint. Looks good.
Have also seen people doing this with white silicone applied over resin, with excellent results. Have you ever tried?
PS. Very lovely build sir.
Edit: ah yes, the closing scene. Could have been cheap silicone from the B&Q. Nice one.
You could use resin, certainly, but my concern was that with the base being so deep, it would be exceptionally difficult to seal everything and if the slightest bit of resin got through, the foam would simply dissolve. As for the silicone, that too would work well but the structure gel holds its shape better. The other thing is that everything I used is water soluble for easy clean up, and there are no nasty fumes to contend with, so folks working at home don't have to stress too much about the fallout :-)
SteamGeezer and Son Independent Traders fair point, had not thought about potential cleanup when relocating the, erm, boat.
Thanks for answering, much appreciated. Keep up the fab fabbing. Next, a 1/10 scale Sherman tank?
@@AJC508 I might do some armour at some point. I doubt it'd be that big though :-)
Nice video, to your usual good standard 👍
One thing though all the way through you talked of using resin, did I miss something and I’ve watched it again but you didn’t use resin?
I thought of using resin initially, so I may have given that impression. If I did, I apologise for any confusion.
SteamGeezer and Son Independent Traders
No apology needed, I just wondered why the change and thought I’d missed something lol. Great video though 👍
I didn't receive notification of this video, just found it on one of my trawls for videos. I know you said you had problems with adverts recently, do you now have problems with notifications? Best wishes Vic.
Not that I'm aware of, but sometimes youtube does seem a little flaky...
@@SteamGeezerUK Hi I've only recently found your channel and really enjoying the builds, as for the notification I don't receive them either from any channel I follow, I found out last week that RUclips have changed their notification policy stating that they will no longer email a subscriber of a new upload, reason given was that they said only 1% of emails were ever opened so they stopped sending them out on August the 13th 2020, but you will still be notified on a mobile device or through your chrome browser.
Where abouts are you from? I'm from Kent and you sound a southerner haha
Is that knife not usually found in a kebab shop?
It's basically a carving knife so, yes, you often see them in kebab shops. I think the proper knives are way longer than this one, but these are cheaper and more readily available so a lot of kebab shops just use these. And now I want a kebab. Thanks for that...
