That scene from Josh & Anna's wedding grosses me out so much. We all know now what Josh did, so his wedding night was not his first "sexual experience". It's fucking disgusting.
Cherish his wife nope Josh didn't get that one. Intimacy is the most important part. Oh I didn't get that one and have been married 24 years. No TV oh no we have been wasting our time together watching. Not!!!!!! I'll write a book. I'll tell you all about marriage from a Social Worker's perspective. The Duggar's make Christianity look bad. They should have never been on TLC. Even 24 years and 3 kids later I do not belong to my husband! You are unique and valued wife or husband.
Yes! because given everything that jboob KNEW about josh it was like a little joke between them that they were both getting off on... they are both soooo creepy.
Maybe I was misunderstanding, but it sounded to me like the dr. was saying it was a man’s responsibility to honor his wife, and if the man isn’t happy with her, he should first check himself to see if he’s the root cause (in the vein of “she’s not crazy, you’re driving her crazy”)…? That sounds like good advice that was glossed over by the Duggars in favor of “look at you man with crazy eyes, I mean, eyes of reverence”
Yes, excellent point! JB always focuses on the man's needs not the women's! Since he is King of his castle, he is the one who gets to interpret and chose the content for which the family must abide by!!!
@@Himmiefan honestly raised conservatively in church. Many sermons about marriage. That is not typical. Typical is to learn from Ephesians 5, Song of Solomon and Proverbs. Men are to cherish their wives and to love them so much they would die for them. It takes both spouses doing their part so both needs are met. It isn't taught for men to get their needs met and wives just sit back and serve him. I agree that the advice of the book didn't sound like that either. So I don't understand how this is being twisted.
I’m curious about Jim Bob’s relationships with his daughter- in-law. I know he made his sons-in-law jump through hoops to marry his daughters. Did he quiz and test the girls to make sure they would be proper wives and mothers. Or did his sons get the girls they wanted. Did Michelle have long interviews with Anna and the rest of the future brides?
Thank you so much for this! I remember feeling creeped out by this episode as it was right before the wedding when Jim Bob talked to Josh about the birds and the bees. If JB did this sooner Josh may not be behind bars today…
The issue I have with these “principles” is what if the husband passes away? Life is not guaranteed. If she doesn’t know how to take care of finances what will she do? I worked at a 55+ resort where elderly people also lived full time. I cannot tell you how many times I watched a spouse pass and his or her widow was so lost as to what to do now due to traditional roles. I had an 80 year old man who lost his wife and he did not know how to grocery shop for himself because he never did the “wifely duties” in the marriage.
It's not hard to imagine, given the way they are raised and taught about women, that by the time the hormones are ready to pop, the duggar boys are drooling repressed and deprived of any preparation . scary.
Josh was guilty of perversion before marriage, years before Dr. Wheat. Marrying someone you look up to isn't bad advise. Marrying a pervert is a bad idea in any culture.
@@janel.8921 Poor Anna. She thought it was love, and for her, it is. To learn that she was just an outlet for his perversion would be heartbreaking beyond belief. I am so grateful some religions have annulments. She is the very definition of a woman who deserves a do over.
What makes his advice so egregious is that JB knows that Josh is a pervert. Married love is so much more that the mechanics of where to put it. They needed a copy of Marie Stopes.

I remember that video when Jim Bob handed him that book on his wedding. I had mentioned that on a comment previously to you on WOCB. Josh no doubt found that book in Jim office growing up. Little did I know then Josh already figured things out already. That explains why he thought the book was funny.
Both JimBob and Michelle went to regular school and as teenagers dated others. Michelle was a cheerleader. They didn't give their children any choices.
@@TaraLovesMusic1 It was JB who was the ultra religious one, & though Michelle identified as a Christian when they met, she had never lived a fundamentalist Christian life. She took bc pills when she & JB first married, but stopped them to try & get pregnant. After Michelle miscarried her first pregnancy, she believed it was having taken the bc pills that made her lose the baby & felt that God was punishing them for her “sin.” JB might’ve brought her in to fundamentalism, but Michelle appeared to embrace all of it in a genuine way after her miscarriage.
You know what is coming down the pipe, right?? Josh will turn on his upbringing, his religion and most importantly, his parents and state all his problems are due to his upbringing. Once again deflecting his actions. It’s NEVER Josh’s fault.
My first EX, I punched him in the face. When he was trying to get his way. My boyfriend after that, I Punched him in the face. When he was abusing my son. Women have the right to be RESPECTED. THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO DEFEND THEMSELVES. They have the right to say NO! They have the right to Defend their Children, from A-Holes! I didn’t always had the strength, to protect myself. But, I LEARNED.
The freaky thing to me is that these kids are supposed to go from never holding hands to all of sudden having sex all in one day. Like they just go from zero to 100 MPH in the blink of an eye. The normal way that intimacy develops is gradually. Couples start holding hands, then kissing, then going a little further as time goes by, so by the time they have sex they are comfortable with eachother and have built up that trust and intimacy. But the Duggar way has no time to get comfortable. One minute you have never even touched a boy or a man and the next minute there's this horny stranger on top of you and he has NO IDEA what he's doing either. (they are basically strangers when they get married). It just does not seem conducive to a good experience for the woman especially.
I was given this book early in our marriage. In the book it said oral is ok but it takes away the ability to lovingly communicate with each other. My hubby said “the most loving thing you can communicate to me is a BJ.” We were hysterically laughing throughout the whole book.
That picture of Anna in the white dress is the most stunning picture of her! I love everything, her hair, her makeup and her outfit. I would like to see more pictures like that of her in the next 20 years or so.
She's going to physically feel so much healthier just being able to live without the burden of having to be submissive to his requirements for the next # years that he gets. Can you imagine what all of those kids had to witness of JB &M growing up? It's no wonder Jana hasn't married. She's witnessed enough to not want to live that way.
True. I hope Josh is locked up long enough for Anna to either deprogramm herself and kick him to the curb or to be menopausal when Josh gets out. Fortunately, federal prisons don't have conjugal visits.
My parents got divorced when I was 12. It was the best think that ever happened in my young life. My parents didn’t have an abusive relationship and I have always had strong healthy relationships with both of them. But there was chaos in our home. When my parents divorced I no longer had to live in the chaos. So, staying married for your kids is so dumb. They know when things aren’t right.
Exactly. When my ex husband and I got a divorce, our oldest daughter cheered. She was 5 at the time. I thought she didn't know what was going on, but she knew and she felt hurt because she could feel the tention and the fact that we weren't happy together.
Anna wouldn't want to divorce Josh because maybe her family would want to find another man for Anna to merry to be a slave to so being married to Josh while he is in prison for 10 + years is actually a vacation and gives her time to bring her kids up without the worry of them being SA by there father or stepfather.
It is too bad there won't be any cameras in the courtroom when Josh's federal prison sentence finally comes down next month on May 25th for it would be nice to see the looks on the faces of Jim Bob, Michelle and Anna especially if the sentence is more than 25yrs.
While the husband is supposed to be the head of the household the bible NEVER says that he is the head no matter what. Plus, yes our bodies belong to our husbands ,but what they NEVER do is give the entire bible verse which says that the husbands body belongs to his wife! We are not supposed to deny EACH OTHER for long periods of time because it can cause a spouse to stray and if you do ,your sin is your sin. Blaming women for cheating or putting the sole responsibility of protecting her man's fragile ego is not biblical. We're not less than men in God's eyes,we just have different rolls and if a husband mistreats his wife or not living the Christian life, we have every right to call him out on it( respectfully) in love

Hey Katie can you please talk about Jinger and her weight loss issues. She is struggling with a eating disorder and she is very thin right now. and opened up about that.
Do you remember that after Spurgeon was born, it was several days before his name was released to the public? It is my opinion that the reason for the delay was because Jessa didn’t want her kid being terrorized with his name as he grew up and maybe played with children and/or parents who are not familiar with the name or the person he was named after. Again it’s my opinion that she was “beaten down” to accepting her husband as the person who would name the child and she was to accept it. I have noticed that all the other children have been named much more quickly and Jessa answers the question. With Henry she said she just liked the name; Ivy Jane they both said Jessa liked the name and Jane suited the first name. I don’t think I saw the last child’s naming episode if there was one. My point is that Ben got to name the first child, but Jessa has seemingly named every other child. Who names a kid Spurgeon? Isn’t that a last name of the person he was named for? I am very sensitive to names because I received a name that was ancient in Scottish legend, and I received a lot of bullying as a child because of it. I grew up when most girls were named Judy or Carol and never met anyone else with my name until I was 26!

Actually that is not true. We are not taught to submit to our husbands but that we are equal partners. We are also taught that women should never stay with a partner that is disrespectful or abusive. Nice try though. We LDS women are never taught to worship our husbands or to be constantly available to his sexual whims. Mutual respect is what is expected
I think something that is often overlooked when talking about submitting is that - *Being submissive to your partner is **_not_** the same as being controlled by your partner.* In modern days it seems that we, as humans, take everything to the extremes. • Either a woman is completely and absolutely independent -or- a woman is oppressed. _It's just not the case._ I don't think anyone would debate that the Duggars are on the extreme side of the concept. Personally I think most of the men are just plain gross. But not all men or women who chose to live in a "traditional*" marriage/home are gross. *I use the word traditional only because I can't think of another word to use. LoL.
I can’t believe how Anna believes in josh so much and look at all the crap he has done and put her and their children through. And she still chooses to stand by him and worship him!
I don't think Anna really believes in Josh. I think, in the cold, grey light of dawn, she knows exactly what Josh has done. I think she feels like she has to tow the company line or JB will cut off her funds. I think she goes along with "the accepted story" cause she doesn't know or want to support all those kids on her own.
@@angievincent2458 I feel extremely bad for Anna's children. They are completely innocent in all of this. Anna is a different story. She sat in that courtroom, listened to most of the case against Josh. She left when the testimony was so alarming that she could no longer feign plausible denial. She did this, in my opinion, to keep Jim Bob's financial support. That is abhorrent to me.
when i got married back in 1977, we took 'obey' out of our vows. marriage should be a partnership between 2 people that love each other, not control of the other. that's what you get a pet for and you train them
We did, too! I told our pastor that he would NOT put “obey” in any of the vows we were going to say to each other. I told him that my soon to be husband wasn’t my parent and I did NOT have to obey him.
Anna is putting herself in the situation that she is in right now. No one is forcing her to stay. There are people who would help her so there is a way out. No one would blame her and God knows people would start a go fund me page for Anna. She is to blame and no one else. The 1st step of leaving a situation is to admit there is a problem and the next step is asking for help.
Florida, & living a classic & traditional IBLP life. Total indoctrination for both Josh & Anna. There are a few scenes from the show where Anna‘s mother gazes at her husband exactly as Michelle does to JB, & how Anna does to Josh. Anna’s parents have always presented as very happy that Anna married Josh, partially because Anna’s parents were always struggling for money & the family lived in poverty conditions for many years when Anna was young. Anna’s parents consistently gave the impression that they firmly believed Anna was marrying “up.” Just Ewwwww
Katie, I beg you to please retire that CREEPY clip of Jim Bob’s wildly inappropriate, grossly perverse kissing lesson (love the always perfectly placed Sobbin’ Robyn weeping clip). Each time I see it my secondhand embarrassment skyrockets. This is superb commentary on the extremely disordered dynamics that were at play in the first Duggar wedding special. In a comment I posted many, many videos ago I referenced this outrageous, cringe-inducing scene in which Josh and Anna are shown in front of a motel, listening to the audiotape describing what was expected of them on their wedding night. I had long believed it was Jim Bob narrating, and was wholly horrified by it, but learning it was Wheat’s or another man’s voice doesn’t make it any better considering that listening to these dysfunctional directives was among the less horrifying things Anna was subjected to that night and in the days that followed… the Lidocaine… the “stretching…” the peppermint and/or lavender oil(s)… the towels brought from home… it is defiling and violating to even know about it; I cannot fathom actually enduring it. I still find this scene, nearly 15 years later, to be one of the most shocking, and perverse and socially subversive few minutes of reality television programming to ever make it to air.
Has it never occurred to anyone that "GIVING away" of the bride is exactly what you're referring to ,father walks her to the man and then transfers responsibility and ownership to the groom? The groom doesn't "get marched" down the aisle and handed over to the woman. There are so many misogynistic and archaic rituals in the marriage ceremony that if most women understood the symbolism they would rethink how the ceremony is conducted. Even the "carrying over the threshold" is straight out of the bible and how the Sabine women were captured, carried off and forced into marriage. I absolutely agree that that book is a horrible playbook for marriage but all of it is straight out of the bible
Well I was raised in purity culture and books like this were passed around. I don’t think it is terrible by any means. I should give this book a re-read 10 years after I first read it. It was helpful for me at the time and I don’t remember a ton of problematic stuff. But I did a lot of skimming!
"The home should be the most attractive place." Didn't JimBob and Michelle live in a 3 bedroom house with over 21 people? The film crew said it was dirty and reeked of urine. The big house was cleaned by the daughters and helpers from the church...
@@BirteK1975 dirty diapers and toddler underwear all over the place. Apparently Michelle's back hurt to much to do laundry, they didn't get baths daily. Jana was still young so taking care of mommy with bad back and cleaning was not her strong point. 21 people in a house with two bathrooms. They had another family ( 2 adult 6 kids)with a total of 8 to add to their brood. Which leads me to the question why didn't those two adults help around the house? House work is women's work so maybe she had a bad back too.
I vaguely remember at the beginning of the series they were renting a three bedroom house owned by a church. Their lease was not renewed because they were over capacity for that house. I remember seeing kids sleeping on pallets on the floor and wall to wall bunk beds.

We should ask Robyn how it feels to be a meme.😂
I'm developing PTSD from it!
Defining how? Unforgivably bad, or good? 😉
That scene from Josh & Anna's wedding grosses me out so much. We all know now what Josh did, so his wedding night was not his first "sexual experience". JimBoob & Josh are just faking the birds & the bees talk for TV. JimBoob is VERY aware about what kind of deviant behavior his son is capable of, while they're joking about how sex is like Legos. It's fucking disgusting.
Me too! Ick! If they think intimacy is just putting Legos together must be having Terrible s..x.
They talk more about sex, marriage, dating, having babies and over all BREEDING then they do about God. Telling!
Facts right here.
That conversation between JB and Josh was so sick it seemed JB was getting off on it. Yuck yuck yuck 🤮
Yes! because given everything that jboob KNEW about josh it was like a little joke between them that they were both getting off on... they are both soooo creepy.
Ugh,watching Jim Bob makes me feel like I need to take a shower with bleach!
If my parents had talked to me and my future husband like this, about sex? I'd never be able to get that ick out of my head and enjoy sex!
@@kristivaught9541 That's typical of conservative religion in general.
@@Himmiefan
True that.
I grew up in a different cult.
But, full of misogyny, patriarchy, & abuse.
Same playbook.
You are right. Good analogy. Sadly.. It's people like the Duggars and their creepy ass cult religion give Christianity a bad look.
It's not hard to imagine, given the way they are raised and taught about women, that by the time the hormones are ready to pop, the duggar boys are drooling repressed and deprived of any preparation . scary.
Lol I have a feeling Josh could have told JB how to spice up his marriage.
lmao too🤣🤣🤣🤣 deb in Sunny SC 😎

Oh goodness! This is terrible, but true!! Eeek
I think I heard somewhere that grandpa Duggar was a creep along these lines. Peeping Tom, kiddie fiddler, something.
@@FRAME5RS really?? I heard some sins or weaknesses are generational..
Josh was guilty of perversion before marriage, years before Dr. Wheat.
Marrying someone you look up to isn't bad advise.
Marrying a pervert is a bad idea in any culture.
I think marriage was supposed to channel Josh’s desires towards an approved outlet.
@@janel.8921 Poor Anna. She thought it was love, and for her, it is. To learn that she was just an outlet for his perversion would be heartbreaking beyond belief. I am so grateful some religions have annulments. She is the very definition of a woman who deserves a do over.
Jimboob is probably terrible at front-hugging.
You made me laugh so hard!!! I bet you are right!!!!
Michelle wouldn't know the difference, though. Pretty sure she only "submits" because she thinks she has to.
most boring 30 seconds of Michelle's day...
What makes his advice so egregious is that JB knows that Josh is a pervert. Married love is so much more that the mechanics of where to put it. They needed a copy of Marie Stopes.
I grew up Pentecostal, well I was forced to grow up in a Pentecostal church, it was horrible, really screwed my life up for a long time. The Duggar kids are allowed to do more then I was! I’m now 35. I didn’t watch the Duggar and sister wives show but I was always interested in what would happen when the kids grew up. I have been watching your channel for awhile and I love it! We love u girl!😁
Wooooooooow. I'd love a deep dive in their wedding night rules and stuff. I know you talked some about it but yak!
I remember seeing on the list pillow, towels and Vaseline!!
The book should’ve included no computer time whatsoever.
So true.😳
I remember that video when Jim Bob handed him that book on his wedding. I had mentioned that on a comment previously to you on WOCB. Josh no doubt found that book in Jim office growing up. Little did I know then Josh already figured things out already. That explains why he thought the book was funny.
Both JimBob and Michelle went to regular school and as teenagers dated others. Michelle was a cheerleader. They didn't give their children any choices.
That's what I don't get. How did they freaking get to where they were with all of this??
@@TaraLovesMusic1 It was JB who was the ultra religious one, & though Michelle identified as a Christian when they met, she had never lived a fundamentalist Christian life. She took bc pills when she & JB first married, but stopped them to try & get pregnant. After Michelle miscarried her first pregnancy, she believed it was having taken the bc pills that made her lose the baby & felt that God was punishing them for her “sin.”
JB might’ve brought her in to fundamentalism, but Michelle appeared to embrace all of it in a genuine way after her miscarriage.
You know what is coming down the pipe, right?? Josh will turn on his upbringing, his religion and most importantly, his parents and state all his problems are due to his upbringing. Once again deflecting his actions. It’s NEVER Josh’s fault.

Yeah, um, Josh is the last person I would take any marriage related advice from.
and JimBob and Michelle.
I was going to write the same thing Josh and his parents are the last people you take marriage advice from.
@Gail Miller Yes don’t have 19 kids if you can’t raise them yourself.
I think the fact the dad had to give a book and tell his kids what to do is creepy as hell.
The claim that he roughed up that stripper to me indicates anger and pent up hatred toward women. That Josh is a sicko on so many levels.
I'm wondering if he was a future serial killer of women 🤔
I was given this book early in our marriage. In the book it said oral is ok but it takes away the ability to lovingly communicate with each other. My hubby said “the most loving thing you can communicate to me is a BJ.” We were hysterically laughing throughout the whole book.
Oh wow! Were you in a religion/group that preached it upon you or just a joke?
@@elliefoust I was raised in a religion that preached it.

He's just a control freak.
I can’t even imagine growing up as a woman in that cult!!!
Seriously... The birds and the bees talk didn't happen before his wedding night?! Yikes.
Yes thank you 👏🏻 was looking for a comment that addressed this. Problematic on so many levels.
@@jacquelynroe9036 Grossly Negligent is the term that comes to mind. 🤢

Ok, where did you get that painting above your couch? I need one just like it!! Love your content and channel!!!!!
I would love to see the kids get some counseling and try to lead a healthy life.

That scene with them listening to the book as they drive off ...the book so prominently displayed, wonder who's idea that was?
I was LDS (Mormon), and they have basically the same views. I was thankfully able to get a divorce. (Actually, a disillusionment).
Katie I agree Anna and Josh’s kids deserve better.
Ok what gets me is he did bad things to his sisters. Now Jim Bob gives his child the birds and bees . Come on creepy family
Your awesome Katie, haven’t people heard if you don’t have something nice to say, say nothing at all. Thank you for your channel.
Where did you find josh and and Anna’s wedding episode, I’d be interested to see it
I think something that is often overlooked when talking about submitting is that -
*Being submissive to your partner is **_not_** the same as being controlled by your partner.*
In modern days it seems that we, as humans, take everything to the extremes.
• Either a woman is completely and absolutely independent -or- a woman is oppressed.
_It's just not the case._
I don't think anyone would debate that the Duggars are on the extreme side of the concept.
@@kristinahuckabee9737 I really feel bad for Anna and her children!
WE [I] took that part out too
Instead of man and wife’s, I hear husband and wife.
How is it hard to learn on your own? Shouldn't two people who love each other work it out without interference???
Anna is putting herself in the situation that she is in right now. No one is forcing her to stay. There are people who would help her so there is a way out. No one would blame her and God knows people would start a go fund me page for Anna. She is to blame and no one else. The 1st step of leaving a situation is to admit there is a problem and the next step is asking for help.
Would they hurry up and sentence him 20 to life already . I dout he was a Virgin before marring Anna
My question is where was her family in all this and where are they now???
Florida, & living a classic & traditional IBLP life. Total indoctrination for both Josh & Anna. There are a few scenes from the show where Anna‘s mother gazes at her husband exactly as Michelle does to JB, & how Anna does to Josh. Anna’s parents have always presented as very happy that Anna married Josh, partially because Anna’s parents were always struggling for money & the family lived in poverty conditions for many years when Anna was young. Anna’s parents consistently gave the impression that they firmly believed Anna was marrying “up.”
Just Ewwwww
Always thought that moment was weird when Josh laughed at receiving a Christian sex book. Such a bizzare response.
My Grandma Golden told me at 15yrs old that Television 📺 ruined her family. My father can’t believe she believed that.
Your makeup is on point Katie!! I'm so jealous of your eyebrows and your beautiful Bambi eyes!!
Well I was raised in purity culture and books like this were passed around. I don’t think it is terrible by any means. I DO think this really should have been done privately and not in front of a camera!! Goodness! Poor Anna. Using her purity and trying to do the right thing and Jim Bob was just in it for money and pride I think.

Eew! Does that mean they p!$$ed on the carpets?
@@BirteK1975 they had too many babies taking care of babies! It would be impossible to keep a house clean. Women are baby machines in this religion.
