- It’s glorious week three of DELTARUNE DECEMBER, my odd holiday effort to put out a new Deltarune-themed video every week! Now that we’ve dealt with some of the big players, it’s time to talk about the wonderful little birdy of Chapter 2, Berdly! This was a fascinating video to go through, and I gained even more of an understanding of this funny guy - an understanding I hope to share with you all today. Enjoy!

honestly, i think that Berdley knows that Queen doesnt actually give a shit about him. everything about his behavior screams to me "gifted child complex", but like almost in reverse. he describes himself as a "forgettable" child, and the first taste of positive feedback was when he did well in school. he's so afraid of being a failure again that he turns to the dark world has a utopian escape, where he'll "always be smart". strict parents who hold a child's worth to their grades will make said child feel worthless unless they're getting perfect scores or performing up to their standard (i too, unfortunately relate to his backstory). to me, it feels like Berdley grew up learning that his only value was performing intelligence, and covered up his insecurity with self-affirming bravado. Queen is as much as a mother figure to him as she is to Noelle. he instinctively goes into "child wanting approval from mom" mode, and i think that her fake compliments are reminiscent of how he's treated at home. no one wants to hear about his interests, they just tolerate him when he does what they want. Queen might even be giving Berdley more attention than a parent figure has ever given him, as dismissive as it is, so he hangs onto it. but i think he knows that she, like his real mother, doesn't care. my biggest pointer to that would be when he encounters Kris alone in the alleyway, and after saying that Queen and Noelle were probably waiting for him somewhere, his face drops like he knows he's lying to himself. he just keeps up the facade because it's been all he knows--pretend you're as great as you're expected to be, and "Be Smart" or else he's forgotten again
Vivat Veritas: Berdly probably won't be relevant again.
Newsletter: "You. Me. Festival."
Lol, loved the video, and the series so far.
Kris x Berdly shippers are eating GOOD after newsletter
@@deadpan904i tell you, i was SCREAMING but nobody seemed to care, sooooo
(DURING THE WEIRD ROUTE DO THEY GO ALONE????)
Now it just clicked to me, how will the consequences of snowgrave affect chapter 5
"you. Me. Festival. What are we having for dinner? Fish!"
@@miguelpedraentomology6080It’ll probably affect Noelle a lot too, im more interested if wearing the watch at the end of Chapter 2 affects anything in future chapters
Berdly death is interesting to me.
Berdly as a character was made because of Dess disappearance as that what causes Noelle to lose the spelling bee.
In a route where we skip over a lot of Dess related content Berdly's death in some ways could be taken as forgetting December as he is one of the few indirect reminders of what happened to her.
Anyways I’ve always seen a parallel between him and Spamton, always reliant on someone else to the point they struggle greatly on their own. Spamton is someone berdly could have easily become if he didn’t get his development.
This is probably something I’m looking too deeply into, but I do think it’s interesting!
also the strings-plug thing
This also would explain why pipis are. A thing
@@ShadowSkryba
yep yep! Plus they both are associated with birds, with Berdly being an actual bird and Spamton having a beak like nose, wings in his Neo form, his association with PIPIS; which look like eggs, both of them also get frozen by Noelle in the Weird Route.
@@mr.j3rs3y Both have a boss fight that takes place on a roller coaster.
@@ruloniiidoman3719 Yes yes! That too!
He probably drinks more Mountain Dew than water
I don’t approve of this Berdly behavior
In his defense... fizzy drink make tounge yummy..
so did you see in the news letter birdly can reply to someone about being asked out to the festival? possibly to kris?
@@marsgreekgod I did! Didn’t really know where to put it in but I love Kredly
Most likely Susie based on the way he's talking
@NotLancer2018 would he tell Susie something casual like this: "Listen, it disgusts me to say this BUT as an ACT of CHARITY, I will let you... be the breeze under my wing. You. Me. Festival."
I think, personally, it's directed at Kris. Because Berdly has that kind of one sided rivalry towards them. Could be directed towards Susie, but we see him acting a lot diferently with his little crush on her, he looks like he constantly wants to impress her. So i think the reluctant-ish tone sounds like it's more directed at his suposed rival. Then again, i am huge on Krerdly, so this may be confirmation bias lol
@ananini_ringleadernico yeah I think it's a 100% kris and thats the hint we can ask people out. I'm not a kirdly shipper at all but
While I have yet to experience Snowgrave myself, I do find the papyrus - Berdly parallel you mentioned interesting. I hadn't really thought about it before you bright it up, but they have a lot of traits in common, from desperatly searching for approval, to acting as if they are great in a field they seem to be lacking in.
They also both have a far more competent female friend who helps them, and to a degree, enables them to be their "annoying self."
Fly high, bluebird of nerdiness, fly high! - (Signed, Lancer)
*Not Lancer
I will let you be the breeze under my wings!!!!
"everyone knew one, in my youth it was me" - hilarious
Blue Bird, flying so high, in the Dark Skies below!
Alphys wasn't annoying to me, she's just socially awkward.
Just like --me-- Berdly.
Unlike Burghley, I don't mask my social awkwardness with "gamer superiority".
I have this theory/headcanon that the reason Berdly is so desperate for validation and attention is that his parents emotionally neglect him.
Also off topic, I feel bad for Alphys too. She didn't know that determination would have the effect it would have on the fallen monsters. Also keep in mind, they were already pretty much dead at the time, and Alphys had permission from their loved ones to do those experiments. While it was wrong for her to withhold what happened from everyone, I can understand her dilemma.
I mean, the only other bird character we see in both undertale and deltarune is the female drunk at Grillby's so maybe you are on to something
Is it just me or does Alphys's outfit resemble something a generic "nazi scientist" would wear?
It visually puts into perspective how some people percieve her.
i can't believe you failed to mention berdly's well documented obsession with the founding fathers and his world-renowned mediterranean housing projects, not to mention his deeply politicized and societally prescient inability to have kids with his wife who hates him.
truly, this video was merely an outline (english for umriss) of what it could have truly been.
Berdly is my favorite punching bag
I'm waiting for the reveal where Mordicai from Regular show is Berdly's dad.
One of the most tragic aspects of Berdly’s death is that he’s denied the chance to grow.
We’re telling this character “you’re obnoxious and irrelevant, so no, you don’t get the chance to change.”
I’ve seen this happen to people in real life. It’s cruel.
Berdly is unironically one of if not my favorite Deltarune characters.
shhh he's also the knight but dont tell anyone
4:04 Same dude 😭
It’s obviously not completely 1 to 1 for me, but there’s a lot of elements from Berdly’s backstory and character that are incredibly relatable to me and my life.
Berdly my beloved ❤
I hope he will be important in next chapter! Great video 👍
Yet another solid video, and yeah birdly probably is done but glad we got him in any sort. I have really been enjoying these shorter videos.
Well the newsletter proves otherwise so I’m excited for that
false i trust in the newsletter... we will have more berbdly!!!,,,,....
@ EXACTLY
about to take off on a flight and i see this video about the best deltarune character drop. thank youuuiu
@@maxmanly3122 enjoy your flight!!
You’re my favorite Deltarune creator and I love hearing your analysis! Excited for the next video
Fucking love Berdly, he's so me
Berdly is a just a nice guy if he was actually nice and respected minorities
3:18 What does this mean, is Alphys disliked within the community?
As much as I enjoy Toby's works, I exist entirely on the outskirts of the community, so I don't know what kind of crowd perception has been attained of the characters.
Yeah there's people who hate her, I used to have a friend who did. People usually think she's a malicious mad scientist who desecrated those corpses on purpose, or a useless fujoshi weeb. Personally, I think the latter group are just mad she gets with Undyne
it's not the majority opinion, and it's mellowed out over the years, but yeah there's a decent-sized chunk of people who absolutely hate Alphys, and most people would say she's their least favorite of the main cast.
Thank you for the elaboration folks.
4:03 YEEEEEAAAASSSSSS
Why is the quality to subscriber ratio always like 30 times higher on deltarune videos I dont get it
i love this blue bird he is so dumb i love it, he's the best
My historical dislike of Berdly makes a bit more sense considering I initially found Papyrus really annoying in Undertale. The similarity between the two definitely exists, but the odds are stacked pretty far against Berdly: he lacks Papyrus's redeeming qualities, doesn't have a hilarious date segment where you're forced to see his good side, and he's missing the counterpart character of Sans to break through the comedy and call you out for judging his brother too harshly.
I think if even one character genuinely went to bat for Berdly in chapter 2 it would go a long way toward priming the player to forgive his flaws, since you'd be reminded that your perspective on him is incomplete, and that you yourself are being arrogant for writing off a person that someone else knows well enough to care about. The problem is that, seemingly, no one actually does lol. Even the characters who have known Berdly since childhood just want to avoid him, and the overall writing of the chapter finds little time to sympathize with him rather than making him the butt of joke after joke.
I still don't feel much fondness for Berdly, but I've also been immersed in enough conversation about him (eg. this video) that I'm leaning toward the issue being less with the fundamental concept of Berdly's character, and more with his execution. And not like... the snowgrave kind of execution. You know. Clearly Berdly has enough complexity to be drilled into with analysis, but I still struggle to connect these takes to the actual _experience_ of Berdly, in Deltarune. His greatest crime is probably just being a comedic relief character that I didn't find funny, and a supposedly sympathetic character who's "face turn" scene felt weak compared to Toby Fox's usual standard, and was quickly brushed aside in favour of more jokes. I do relate to him, and he was indeed "me in highschool" to an extent, but I don't think I'll ever be able to care about him unless his character is taken further in chapter 3.
Birbly
3:22 FINALLY SOMEKNE LIKE ME
As a wise and elegant computer robot thing that has the head shape of an alien said once:
"There's nothing wrong with him, he's just annoying."
And that sums up his character, he's no evil no good character that has Andrew Tate levels of weirdness. He's just an annoying little shit and i love that for him
Got a chicken tenders ad on this video…
minor note at the mention of the Dunning Kruger effect: the graph showing the point is autocorrelation, and it isn't an accurate representation of people's abilities to make self-assessments
anyway cool vid :3
That’s mah guyyyyyyy

Toby Fox better have us get Berdly omni pregnant and lactating or else
What in the fu...
Bro... he has no nipples, and what is your problem?
Comment section has fallen
I-I-I- HUH
Berdly better have us get Toby omni pregnant and lactating or else
People who like the guy and genuinely think he redeemed himself in chapter 2 are a huge red flag for me. EDIT: Yep, struck a nerve with the kinds of people who I was talking about.
Why?
He didn't redeem himself, but he is definitely on the path to being a better person.
Im with the replies here, WTH u smoking!?
1- He acknowledged that his anticts got Noelle in deep trouble.
2- made the plan to rescue her from Queen using his gamer brain.
3- before fighting against Giga Queen, he laps the entire Dark world WHILE SEVERELY INJURED in search of comrades to help the Fun gang defeat Queen.
If that doesn't at least redeem him for the crime of being mildly annoying and cringe.
You should probably stay far away from any type of human contact for while to reset your brain.
Also did y'all know Berdly got Two!? Jobs!?
One at the Library and one at church.
He touches grass!
Oh yeah, i don't understand how people do not understand this but given the fact they are children (teenagers) they should not be held to the same standards as 57 year old Docter. shiwerster.mcee❤
@LesleyHecke Heck, he might even have more jobs than that! For all we know, he could be an intern at the Mayor's office, or work at Sans' shop as part timer. Anything to make himself feel wanted and important.
