Remeber he said he was attacked by guys with guns? Of course he feels like he needs to protect himself. We need to walk a mile in another's shoes to understand where they're coming from.
It depends on where you live. Usually it is centered around large cities or impoverished areas. Sometimes brandishing a weapon is enough to deter assault. We have illegal drug trade like its open season here. Drugs are smuggled in by the drug cartels from Mexico and from the Central American countries. They are also grown, produced and manufactured in the US and peddled by doctors, pharmacies, business men, street drug dealer, etc. It is extremely lucrative. Billion dollar industry. Some people are trying to become filthy rich, and some people are trying to just make ends meet to pay for groceries. Thus, lots of money produces incentive to protect assets. Enter in illegally sold and purchased weapons. Criminals will arm themselves. If they can smuggle in drugs across the border, and sometimes people, they will smuggle in guns. Or they can purchase them illegally for the right price from a contracted arms dealer. Citizens have to protect themselves depending on what type of neighborhood they live in. The police are not always able to make it in time to protect them. Then of course there is human trafficking, robbery, sexual assault, and gang wars, where often, one gang (drug dealer) fights another gang (drug dealer) on what they consider their "turf" for sale. There are also gang initiations, which usually involve some crime to be accepted into the gang, such as assault or murder. So, yes?
Also, there isn't a public school in the US where drugs haven't been used by some student. Sometimes it's just weed, and sometimes its harder drugs like cocaine or heroine. I live in an area that is a suburb of a middle sized city in the Midwest. It has higher crime than most suburbs surrounding and has higher poverty. It is also pretty populated. There were gang fights, hallway fights. Kids selling drugs, using or family members using drugs. A friend's neighbor ODed on drugs. I have heard guns shots near the back of my house, about once or twice a year or so. A cop was killed in the line of duty about 10 years ago down my street. Someone was murdered a few blocks down near my house last year. People have been kidnapped, and assaulted. I am fine. I know where to go and when, and how to stay out of certain areas. I do not know own a gun. I do not live near Chicago or Detroit. I am in a suburb. Just as an fyi. There is also a rich suburb nearby, along with rural suburbs, and we have one of the best innovative community colleges in the country with University partnerships, robotic department, fabrication lab and micro-engineering building. We also have a fantastic theater department, robotics department and several professional athletes recently from the high school. I can't say someone shouldn't own a weapon if they feel they aren't in a safe neighborhood, are living on their own or feel insecure. If they feel they need one, then I say, the more lessons and training, the better.
Also I checked through a quick Google and in 2018 it's estimated nearly 15,000 of drug overdose deaths were heroin And another source stated 40,000 gun related deaths in 2017 so it's not even remotely true
and my car is a weapon too... we all need to get tested before obtaining a license. The argument of "anything" can be a weapon is so true, it's moronic to use it as a defense for gun laws directed at preventing mentally unstable individuals from obtaining them... You know... like they do for cars.
You know what’s funny about Michigan? Tasers were illegal here until 2012 (unless you were a police officer or PO) Guns were not illegal. It’s so funny to me how they thought tasers were too dangerous but were completely OK with guns. Now you can get a license to have a taser like you would a gun.
Their concerns about their guns, are outweighed by everyone else's concerns about public safety. There is no individual right to own a firearm in the 2nd Amendment, no matter what the NRA and the right-wing reactionaries on the court say. On another note, my channel has a video in response to the tragedy in Parkland condemning the NRA and Republicans for allowing this to happen, and rebutting common gun nut talking points. We also do regular weekly news updates
State of the Republic Alright dude, so the FBI knowingly having the shooter reported to them and not doing anything was the NRA's fault? You cant say that would havent have gone differently if a teacher or administrator had a gun. Truth is, if people are going to use guns for illegal things, they will get guns illegal ways. Like banning alchohol in the early 1900's didnt work, a full ban wont work. Vigilance and someone closer to the scene armed would suffice, because soft targets are called that for a reason, and the sooner we stop letting domestic terrorists see schools and other places as soft spots, they wont attack there.

This is why I don't get second amendment people. It's void of context considering there's two arguments for the second amendment. First, there is the argument that the second amendment exists to allow state militias. This is fine as an argument except that the modern u.s. has the largest and most well-funded military in the world, why do we still need state militias then? The second argument is similar, that the second amendment exists to protect citizens against their own government. This argument has two flaws. First, we have the largest, most well-funded military in the world and... what? These people expect farmer bill and office Joe to overthrow the government? Second, I have never heard a situation these people can imagine as tyrannical EXCEPT for the confiscation of their precious guns. Need I remind people we are still running immigrant detention centers that fall under the definition of concentration camps or that we have the most cops responsible for killing people of any developed country? I'm not saying that we should take over the government, I think voting and direct action protests are better solutions, but I do think it is telling that none of the gun rights people I've ever met (I live in texas btw) are bothered by these.
I like how he is trying to pick someone to "change their mind," but automatically negates the people with legitimate concerns and thoughts who might "change his mind." Interesting.
