    I listened to this broadcast under the covers at my summer camp in Litchfield, after lights out at 9:00 p.m. Amazing.

    The 1977 NYC Black out was a bad one, kinda fun but bad too, i was 21 i had brought my first car hanging out in Manhattan with my brother we just had came in the house living in Harlem as soon as we got it the house the lights blinked then it went out and the people went wild Yelling Black Out Black Out then when it got dark the looting started, i remember the Yankees had a game at Yankee Stadium and the Mets was at Shea Stadium playing the Cubs, the Yankees ended up winning the World Series that year, they had the Son of Sam running around that year, Elvis Died that year, Star Wars was born that year, Saturday Night Fever was born that year, Close Encounters of the Third Kind was born that year boy what a year so much happened.

    my earliest memories as a child. only a few years old. I remember the darkness not knowing exactly what was happening. And my dad taking me to pick my mom up from my aunt's house and driving down the street the wrong way.

    According to my recollection our electric power did not come back on until after 2 PM Thursday July 14, 1977. I lived in Flushing at the time & we were the last section to come back on according to Con Ed.

    I remember Chuck Leonard who would later go to KISS, & George Michael (not the singer), before he hosted the "Sports Machine ".

    I experienced the 2003 Blackout which was different, because it was widespread & it started outside of NY.

    I am so glad I was in Panama at the time, it would have been scary to be in the apartment me & my family lived in, in the dark, plus it was scorching hot even at night.

    I also believe it was also a power surge because it was one of the hottest summers that I can remember.

    There should be neighborhood mini-power plants for these emergencies. They'd also be cyber-proofed.

    What a coincidence that the movie "Blackout" was on The Late Show?. It was planned long before the Blackout happened, I don't know if it was shown, I was out of the country at the time.

    The first mention of looting is at 45:05 delivered as an off-hand remark that 309 people had been arrested.

    The Blackout was not terrorist related, that's what they also said about the 2003 Blackout.

    Why would they need to assure there was no connection between the chopper being shot in North Korea and the NYC blackout?

      What would a local blackout have to do with a downed plane in Asia?

  • @sambradley2975
    @sambradley2975 5 лет назад

    We have had trouble with North Korea since 1950. Ironically, this was also at the time of something called "Koreagate ", which, to this day, I still don't know what that was.

      The US had a military plane “accidentally” fly into North Korean airspace. It got shot down. President Carter blamed the flight crew.

    Under MLB rules then and now a power failure causes a game to be suspended.

  • @sambradley2975
    @sambradley2975 5 лет назад

    I think it was a freak accident that caused it, I think it was lightning that struck a power plant or something like that, least that's what I heard.

    I don't know what I would have done if I we hadn't gone to Panama. There were parts of the neighborhood that I lived in were looted, I lived in Crown Heights in Brooklyn back then.
