I absolutely loved this video and I fully agree with the approach. I started playing at 58 years old, a couple of months ago. I've only done our local par 3 course for now. Trying to learn how to hit my irons on the range, I am learning how to chip, and putt. Have not hit a driver yet. Just enjoying and learning, and not fretting about the inevitable mishits. Bunkers, long drives, 18 holes, that will come, in time.
Great ideas for beginners. Similar to your single digit suggestion when I first started the experienced friends I played with made me use what they called the “Double Par Rule,” no score on any hole more than par x 2. They didn’t push me to get a handicap and simply encouraged me to try to come in under the “double par” score the first year I played. I fell in love with the game, enjoyed my time with friends and did improve to breaking 90 by the end of summer.
Yes Miles! I started last year at the age of 66 and love to play with friends, but frustrated with shots that spoil the enjoyment. I have thought about using a tee on the fairway but thought it was against the rules?

Spot on … this is a tough game to play and even tougher to master 👍

If it's not a competition or handicap round, do whatever makes it an enjoyable round. And if you want to get better, go see Miles for a few lessons!
