More IAA Koala recording hacks! ▼ ▼ 1. Like some has pointed out. If your iPad supports slide over view, you can use koala as a slide over app on top of the IAA app. That way you’ll have access to the controls in the IAA app too. 2. Someone mentioned the record-toggle setting inside the settings menu in koala sampler. If you set it to toggle recording, you can just activate the recording and then jump to the IAA app and do your stuff there while koala is continuously recording. Huge thanks for the tips! 👊👊👊 🎥 VIDEO LINKS 🎥 KOALA AUV3 ► ruclips.net/video/iJBendDZE-U/видео.html NANOKEY REVIEW ► ruclips.net/video/xFcTp7dCVCI/видео.html
You have been such a massive help from me so I wanted to say thank you. But only last night did I listen to some of your music. I really love your mellow album and your most recent single. That’s all I’ve listened to so far, but I plan on keeping listening. Thank you again.
My workaround has always been to just do a screen recording and then sample from that and koala. But I’m glad this is now available as well thanks for this video!
Fun to see two of my favorite synths in this episode. I used to own a physical Mono poly. 👍 And sunrise or is my favorite iPad synth - so cool. Thanks for the great episode.
Very nice guide/video and i will try this out asap. I almost bought the korg nanokey studio to replace my launchpad but i settled for the MPD218 and korg microkey 37 because i dont like having it all in 1 package and i really love them Akai pads to fingerdrum on
I do this by making a screen recording while I'm playing the app and then importing that video (yes, video: Koala automagically strips the audio) directly into Koala for further processing. Quick and easy. Works for any app.
Hey Jakob, I think you missed a couple of things... in koala preferences you can enable a setting that lets you toggle pad recording on and off rather than holding it the whole time. Using this you can press record then go to imono/poly or whatever IAA app you like and play it, move knobs, and when you get back you can just tap the button again in koala to stop recording. Additionally, I used to do this with Koala BEFORE auv3 support. If you run Koala IAA (still through AUM) and open it, you can actually drag koala to the slide-out sidebar, that way you can bring it in and out while imono/poly is on screen.
Yeah I missed the toggle function completely. 🤦♂️ However I didn’t show the slide over because some smaller iPads didn’t support that in the past. Plus you can’t do it on iPhone and a lot of people who asked about this was only using iPhone. As soon as I have time I’ll redo this video though and include all this info.
Hi Jakob Do you have a solution to avoid the monitoring when we use an in-app in Cubasis or BeatMaker ? In realtime paying this latency/phase effect is awefull Cheers
Hey my fav music-biker! The iPad mini 2 is starting to get old. It can run a few AUv3’s, but they’d have to be of the “lighter” type. You could test it out by getting AUM and then start by downloading free AUv3’s. Build a session and see how far you get before the pad chokes on you. If you really want to dive into AUv3 and get the most out of it but without breaking your walled, Get a used iPad from 2 years back.
Very useful video !! thank you Jacob !! I have a second question and may you should know the answer: so many person ask for a prefect controller for Koala sampler tell me with Elektron Model cycle or sample we can use them as controller for ios app like koala or not ?? it will be rad
I know very little about Model:Cycles since I never got my hands on one. But does send out MIDI CC from its knobs. You’ll have to check the manual for “MIDI implementation” for more info on that.
İ am looking for anything like AUM for android. I couldn't find any yet can somebody help me if there is any app or way for android than I can record vst directly koala 🐨 sampler. Thanks from now 🙏
There was an attempt a while ago made by the same guys who makes n-track Studio, but only one other developer implemented it into their iOS Android apps. They did not keep up with updates however and it’s not working now. It’s called “Audioroute”. It’s doable but something like this needs dedicated people working together, implementing and updating software. The reason why Apples iDevices has such a strong music making scene is thanks to the work of 100s of developers working together creating a platform for this type of functionality. It went so well that Apple themselves started implementing Inter App Audio etc. Some time a go I made a video about the evolution of iOS music making. If you check it you’ll see what went into making what exists today: ruclips.net/video/kF99wJL_uJo/видео.html
@@JakobHaq thank you so much Jakob also someone from koala 🐨 Facebook community says that there is problem about android kernels so that's why they can't do a lot of music apps. And also some of them find the solution with screen recording vst and import video to koala 🐨. İt is sad that they are forcing us to do that :/ But still creative ways to find solution 😇
in this case it would be better to use the koala sampler app via inter app audio as you can have the koala app as a side window so you can have open any synth plus koala at the same time in the same screen. Edit: you can see me using koala as a window (but to play, not sample) on this video: ruclips.net/video/eqfO6TBDcQY/видео.html at 40 seconds
What iPad model are you using btw. In the past some smaller iPads didn’t correctly support the slide over view, which is why I’m wondering about your iPad model.

You make excellent videos with excellent tutorials Jakob!
yes, so helpful !!

Should I jump in the AUV3 world if I only have an iPad mini 2? I feel like it won't last long : D
