@@aussieknuckles In case it helps anybody else, OBS was great, but only worked once for me. The next time I tried it, video was great but audio was gone. Couldn't figure out why, but after several days I had to give up on OBS. Discovered VLC Media Player also works. Not as sophisticated, but it's doing the job. All credit to @aussieknuckles... I would have completely been out of luck without this clear, easy explanation. The hardware works perfectly!! Again, thank you!!!

Thank you for that line in the description about it being because the camera is turned off, real life saver but also, why the hell is that a thing, why on earth does that matter?
I guess it uses the camera Driver as a port for the USB Capture Input.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I was going crazy, because i couldn't find my video capture device in the list. I letterally tried any combination to let it work and to test the device itself if it was working or not (i was using it coupled with a scart to hdmi adaptor to save old vhs to my pc, i tried using without it to test the capture device alone, but still not working, the pc could only find the device, but the led on the device didn't power on....). At the end i searched on google and found your video: i knew i disabled integrated webcam, but could never guess it was a problem for OBS to recognize the video capture device. Enabling privacy settings of webcam the led on the capture device switched on and could be able to find it in the OBS video capture device list.
I thought my capture card not working, thank you so much. I always have my camera off so i dont know this is something that need to be on

Thank you for your help. I was not finding the solution anywhere. I was also having video but no audio being captured on another computer. After changing the privacy settings for the microphone I got audio to capture as well. Those privacy settings seemed to do the trick.Thank you again for your video and help!

Thanks mate! Trying to convert some old camcorder DV recordings to mp4s. Spent several hours trying all the fixes on the OBS forums to no effect and 2 minutes watching your video solved the problem. Selecting Monitor and Output in the Advanced Audio Settings also turned the desktop audio on.
Glad this video helped, and no worries. Cheers for the Audio tip, I've had to mess around with settings in the past to get audio working to, it can be frustrating.
Careful if you're recording. If you have the video and desktop audio both on, you get an echo.

When I look in camera privacy settings, I have no option that allows me to enable obs so it can activate my camera
Worked a charm, my camera is actually still disabled in Device Manager as well but just had to turn on Camera access. Nice one lad!

Tips obs usb ps4 video not showing Last year found out my hdmi device is busted
- try moving the USB to other slot
- Turn on active microphone & camera in system PC
- buy new hdmi video capture
- restart the OBS, don't Uninnstal or even reset windows

Thanks, I was really scratching my head! I didn't even think about camera settings because I'm just using a cheapo converter to capture VHS tapes. I turn off most settings in windows because I don't trust Microsoft worth a damn.
Yeah I dont trust them either. Get a camera cover off ebay with a slider, they are worth it.

@aussieknuckles you were the 5th video I watched, and I nearly gave up! USB capture devices are difficult to work with or maybe it's just the cheap one I bought lol
@@brandongatlin3147 lol yeah mines only a cheapey too, the definitely can be tricky to get working sometimes. That's why I made this video originally, cause it took me a bit to figure it out so I thought other people might have the same issues, and I wasn't wrong lol.

@@aussieknuckles Hmmm... After some testing it seems my "chinese hendheld" has some harsh connection issues / signal loss issues. I tested all my cables (HDMI & USB) an nothing worked. You got any tipps or tweaks?

I either see the standard SMPTE color bars tv shot, or my camera menu screen. I can't get it to show the filming/streaming live view.
***UPDATE*** I fooled around with the LV (liveview) button on my Nikon D5600 and then it suddenly worked. Funny thing is I had already done that and didn't change any setting. So I don't know. lol

Here's one for you. Camera access is enabled (windows 11), camera settings show the video feed, but I'm not getting anything in OBS or the other software I use video for.
Video input is a zosi security cam dvr running to a 4K capture card, running to the laptop. I'm stumped.
Check HDMI Cable isnt faulty

Try unplug the capture device and plug it back in, restart OBS, make a new capture profile again...
I have to constantly do that as OBS glitches out.
If that doesn't work, check HDMI isn't faulty.

The problem is that even when the camera is on, very often OBS will not display the USB Camera device, even thoughh in WIndows 11 System Settings for Camera - USB Video - the image is available and clearly visible on the SETTINGS UUSB Video screen, But, OBS will still not display anything, unless you IGNORE all of your already previopusly created, and once active and successful USB Video Capture Devices, and CREATE A NEW Video Capture Device. THe USB Video content, plainly visible in Settings will only then display on the OBS Screen. Only when using a new Video Capture Device. Except for when the old one will suddenly work for reasons that I have never figured oiut.
