Hey, Fil. Great commentary! Vince Gill is a National Treasure! They all are. No doubt about it. Please, please give a listen to a live version of that awesome group Pure Prarie League's song "Amie". Look up Pure Prarie League (w/Vince Gill). Probably recorded in the 70s. It's beyond awesome! The band is tight as a drum. Vince Gill on lead vocals will have you mesmerized! The ending vocals are Heaven. No lie. And then, please do one of your tremendous analyses. Thank you so much, Fil! Take care.
So entertaining and enjoyable. Marty Stuart was also wonderful as one of the main Country stars who contributed to Ken Burns documentary mini-series film called " County Music."

Fil, I have said this before - you are actually a closet country musician at heart. You are in great company!!!! Massive talent on this stage. Brad Paisley, I would put right up with Glen Campbell and Roy Clark. Keith Urban would be the other.
Marty's vocal here really mimics or pays homage to the singer of the original hit record of "Six Days On the Road"--Dave Dudley. Dudley sang it in a conversational, sort of Johnny Cash style. But what was made Dudley's performance so enduring was that he didn't have any of the mythic, larger-than life persona of Johnny Cash. When you hear it, you really feel like you're listening to a middle-aged truck driver who's living the song.
All three great singers and good Guitar players as well. I myself met Marty Stuart and his wife, Connie Smith. Had a picture taken with Connie Smith. Marty is a very cool guy and nice as he can be. I made a request awhile back about Brent Mason and Vince Gill together with the Nashville Players on a song "Don't Try This At Home"
Marty was born in Philadelphia, Ms which is about 28 miles from my hometown of Kosciusko. He lived there in his early years and met his wife at the Neshoba County Fair. He was still a young boy and Connie Smith was performing. He told her he was going to marry her someday and they are still together today. A good fella who has not let it go to his head. THANK YOU Fil!
Worth noting Brad is an ETSU graduate of the bluegrass country and old time program (first college in world to offer a 4 yr degree in bluegrass/country) was a fun program when I was there
Love this old Dave Dudley tune. Brad Paisley is a great guitarist. I enjoy his work here and his work on the electric guitar. He mixes it up and is innovative. Thanks for the breakdown Fil. I'm gonna try to do this, looks like a lot of fun!

Hey Fil, it’s Lodie. I actually met Marty Stuart on the streets of Asheville, NC when he/Superlatives were playing probably the last Bele Cher Music Festival there. I also attended their show. I got his autograph plus wanted to buy he/band dinner yet didn’t think he’d take my card.....even though he could’ve returned it as I was front row. ☺️💁🏼♀️ He was so gracious. He lost a string during the show yet they/he kept playing while he replaced it. Anyhoo, Marty plays a mean guitar. His vocals aren’t as strong as his guitar yet he’s still Marty! He’s also an accomplished photographer. ☺️ Lodie
Feel good music. I have 3 Sax a guitar & 2 vocalists playing in my field next week open air all acoustic in a tent all over 70 to about 20 audience in Herts - they normally play in pubs but since lockdown have had no where at all to play - bound to be fun.
Can I just say, yes~ I love & appreciate the talent, but I dig Marty Stuart's crazy hair! Lol( It's kinda like mine.) Stay safe UK! Excellent as always, Fil~
Being a lead guitarist myself I admire your ability to teach and making it easy to understand. I wish I had your ability to teach someone how to play. None of my kids never did follow me in the music field because I never had the patience to teach. It would have done my heart good if at least one of them learned from me. But my kids all have talents I dont have. One is a good carpenter and one is a heavy equipment operator. The other two have their talents also. I'm envious of someone like you that can teach as well as you do
About Marty's vocals. I like how he did not go too deep into "country twang" I liked this restraint. I was starting to get a bit scared but then Fil says "maybe you can mark it for later on in your learning cycle." This bit of instruction from Fil was definitely not a "beginners course." I don't let the fact that I am am only grasping bits and pieces of the explanation get me down. This is not "easy stuff" by any means. Three people that I am very comfortable with their music (Marty,Vince,Brad) well four people,Fil himself. Thanks.
Hi, I've been teaching people how to play guitar since the 80's. If you learn nothing else, learn this: guitarsix.com/media/c-major-scale-patterns_guitar110315cudtv.jpg That is in fact the basis for all music (other than some 1/4 tones found in The Blues, Indian and Middle Eastern music). If you learn that, it's also a moveable shape(s) into any other key, and also that red dot over the C notes indicates it is the _root note._ But, you can use any of those notes as the root note and now you also know all 7 diatonic modes. But just learn one of those shapes, or just a part of one of the shapes. If you learned only one per month, you'd still have learned literally every note there is on guitar in 7 months. As far as technique: if you aren't already, practice with a metronome at least some of the time if not most (but not always either). 50/50 is a good compromise imo. But the confidence alone that you get from being able to play to a metronome is invaluable. No matter how good any drummer is, every member in a band is the time keeper (your drummer will thank me later). So *learn* a part without the metronome at your own pace, and then when you feel you have it down, start *practicing* it with the metronome (or drum machine, backing tracks, etc). But most important and by *far* the most serious aspect of playing guitar... *Nay!* Any and all instruments is.... Have fun! If you like it, it's awesome. ^-^
@@aylbdrmadison1051 Hello Aylbdr. I thank you very much. At this point I need a bit of a course in reading the diagram you posted. Of course I can tell the picture represents a fretboard. I need a bit of a primer in interpreting the diagram. So far (since the end of last October) I am teaching myself off of RUclips videos. Sure a person can make progress like this but I am pretty disorganized. People are helping me. Vince over on the FB Wings of Pegasus support site answers every question I have, usually withing minutes. I am starting to grasp the idea of "key" and the notes that go together in each key. I bet you know that beginners just start learning chords, then they try and make chord progressions. Soon they run out of the easy progressions and start to struggle with what chord to pick next. I am coming to realize that this "root note thing" is important. I wanted to mention that our host here (Fil) has also taken the time to help me and answer my questions. Fil has helped mainly with my questions about finger, hand, arm pain (like "stop practicing so much when your pain level is high".) This "learning guitar practice" gets to be a lot like weight training at the gym. That is you develop a habit and feel like something is wrong if you miss a day. I am a bit older and I do have osteoarthritis in my hands. I do worry this arthritis issue gets too big for me to manage. But I am still having a blast and if I need to fit in a "no practice day" then so be it as then I can study music theory ( I am retired and am racing the clock with declining visual ability). Thanks again.
Interesting! Got to see Marty and Vince on their own live years ago. Both were fantastic.❤️ This made me feel old though! First CD I ever bought was a Marty CD 😆.
Check out sturgill Simpson and Tyler Childers, country music is more than you think, throw in Steve Earle and Townes van zandt and you getting the best
@@derekm3180 Oooohhh, I'm not sure I can get behind that totally. Chet Atkins, Roy Clark (no crap, Roy Clark, check out that Odd Couple youTube vid) and others. I'm so NOT saying these guys are bad at all, but that's like comparing Pavarotti vs Ronnie James Dio. It's not a fair comparison, but they were from different eras both examples, yours vs mine. No disrespect, just different era's/styles. I remember the old school artists, having seen so many as my mom and dad would bring me to the shows of so many artists in the 60's through 70's. I think they kinda got mad at me for not taking them to the many shows I went to in the mid 70's to the 80's to see acts like Blue Oyster Cult, Sabbath, Van Halen, 10 Years After, oh there were so many. I just didn't want them to be around my pot smoking friends, lol, I was protecting my fam! It turned out, years later, they wouldn't have cared, but they needed to be the "parents" all the while they wanted to see those shows. I will always feel guilt for not getting them tix on the other side of the Arena :-(. I got to see Elvis 3 times because of them, what a jerk I was to not bring them to a Nugent show!
Damaged262 point taken - I suppose I should’ve said “living”. But I stand by my opinion. Marty is the best multi-instrumentalist hybrid bluegrass/country guy, Vince is the best high tenor who can also shred (neither on display here though), and Brad has a unique approach to soloing that Is so quick that it would put Chet Atkins or Roy Clark in the hospital if they tried it. Of course, Chet and Roy were groundbreaking-Chet more so- and none of the guys in this video could hope to approach the level that the old school guys represented in their day. I guess they’re all good 😂
@@derekm3180 Did you think Chet Atkins and Roy Clark were in metal bands in the 60's? They weren't. Learn something that might have happened before you were born. I'm not being a jerk about this. In fact, look through Fil's library and you'll see what I'm talking about. Be well, I'm so not attacking you, I'm just referencing some guys that were around long before you were apparently around is all.
They should do a Travelling Wilberrys type project. Each one is dynamite live. Thank God I got out of my rock only mindset. See them while you still can.
Marty Stuart totally kills on guitar using Clarence White's Parsons/White bender Tele, which is not on display here, of course. I just don't want anyone thinking Marty is Mr. Mando. Seriously, of the three, I think Marty is just a level above everyone else on guitar. He started out playing mando for bluegrass legend Lester Flatt at age 14. The other two are absolute monsters too. These are scary great musicians on display here! They are ALL great singers and songwriters too. So do you really want to try out as a musician in Nashville? The people taking your luggage, serving your meal and driving the hotel limos, etc, are all musicians.
It was a cool, relaxed vid and I LIKE these guys! Another relaxed vid is Kiss Unplugged on MTV when they do 2000 Man. You should check it out. They screw the beginning and have a laugh. Then they kick a$$.😎
Is always great job! Have you had a chance to look at One man rock ‘n’ roll band… Roy Harper… The video where he is alone on stage with the moon and sun behind him....Incredible performance
Marty Stewart snd the Fabulous Superlatives are imho the hottest band touring today. Two fabulous guitar players both on Fender Telecasters. Marty plays Clarence White's old telecaster. They are really 🔥. Check them out sometime.

But I am still having a blast and if I need to fit in a "no practice day" then so be it as then I can study music theory ( I am retired and am racing the clock with declining visual ability). Thanks again.
Enjoyed, thank you for sharing. ✌️💞
Interesting! Got to see Marty and Vince on their own live years ago. Both were fantastic.❤️ This made me feel old though! First CD I ever bought was a Marty CD 😆.
CHeck out Vince Gill in the beginning. He was in a group, Pure Prairie League, before he went solo. Great band.
So good! The Country Masters, just needed Keith with them.
Great performers, love that Marty Stuart!
A great collaboration was Travis Tritt and Marty Stewart - The Whiskey’s Not working Anymore.
I dislike modern country music, but I love your work Fil, so I'll just shut up and enjoy your video. Rock on!
Check out sturgill Simpson and Tyler Childers, country music is more than you think, throw in Steve Earle and Townes van zandt and you getting the best
They happen to be country players, but you will not find anyone who has more mastery of their craft than these three.
Steve Earle's rendition of Six Days On The Road is also awesome.
It's crazy that they make this look easy but it's not. 3 greats up there y'all
Marty Stuart totally kills on guitar using Clarence White's Parsons/White bender Tele, which is not on display here, of course.
Lacy J Dalton's 16th Ave says it all don't it.
Love these 3 guys!!!
These 3 are ultimate professionals and have to be amongst the great musicians.
Check out, if you haven’t, Conway Twitty and Sam Moore “Rainy Night in Georgia”. 1994
Conway is out here somewhere!
Whoa..... Fantastic...
Fascinating, Fil. Again.
All amazing artists, Brad can really play that guitar :)
Looooove Brad Paisley 🤠
Hey that was fun!
Marty Stewart snd the Fabulous Superlatives are imho the hottest band touring today.
Two fabulous guitar players both on Fender Telecasters. Marty plays Clarence White's old telecaster. They are really 🔥. Check them out sometime.
Sir, could you possibly do an analysis of Paisley with Fogerty doing Hot Rod Heart?
Good Lord Fil, you are a hard working man
Great analysis...do you play the mandolin at all, Fil? Like to see it if you do!
Not yet!
Absolutely wonderful!
I'll recommend this for my wife she's currently learning guitar. I'm waiting for a banjo in the mail.
check out this one, the song whose gonna fill their shoes starts at 4.00 ----Jamey Johnson - Sings For George Jones Birthday at Opry
