Fil, did you ever hear Jimi Hendrix being described as a 'frustrated country guitarist'?
      Think about it
Strip away the fuzz and effects and., Voila!!
I saw the most incredible video but have never been able to find it again.
Jeff Beck at an outdoor show, while some issue was being addressed, entertained everyone by playing, on his Strat, of course, the Theme From the Beverly Hillbillies.
If you closed your eyes, you'd have sworn on a stack of bibles he was playing a banjo....
      It was shocking.
I watched it 3 times and I wish I'd watched it a few more..
      Blessings!

This cat is one of the nicest people on RUclips. He has an appreciation for music far different from the type he plays, and he always has valuable things to point out about other's talents and techniques. BTW; that alteranting bass string lick is called the Mother Mabel lick, invented by Mother Maybel Carter, June Carter's mother, who passed it on to Johnny Cash, who, in turn, passed it on to Marty, in particualr, and the world, in general.

Tightest band by far. Theres a video where Kenny is talking about the letterman performance, before, the house band guitarists are taking the piss out of them, afterwards, they start asking where all they're pedals are, they didn't have pedals, they had Teles and old fender amps. No need for pedals when you that good.

The guys I played with and I listened to the likes of Roy Buchanan & Danny Gatton, who didn't use them. As a Bassist, I will use a compressor if the amp I'm using doesn't have one or a limiter built-in but it's not a deal breaker, I don't have to. When going direct to a board I will use an Eden WTDI PreAmp & Compressor. I also own an MXR DynaComp from the 70s, but that is it. A great guitar, a great amp and your hands are all you really need.

Great analysis of some good Country pickin' Fil. Cousin Kenny Vaughn is a master of the Telecaster. Don't know if you noticed, but Marty Stuart is playing the original working prototype Clarence White/ Gene Parsons B-Bender Telecaster. Marty got the guitar from Clarence's widow, so Mr. Stuart is now it's custodian. Marty and his band "The Fabulous Superlatives" are quite a bunch of musicians. If you can find it out there in RUclips land, there's a clip of Marty and the boys on the David Letterman Show. They feature a track from their album "Live From Studio B" (Letterman calls it "....Studio 8 " and Marty corrects him!) Didn't catch the name of the track but Kenny and Marty really let rip, playing lead and harmony. For some guitar breaks, they don't even look at each other but never miss a note. Just makes you smile and realise how good these guys are! Special mention for Marty and his enormous contribution to Country music. Great work Fil and many thanks. Stay safe and well.

I've seen Marty and the Superlatives in concert before. Did the meet and greet and all the guys were so gracious to the fans. They seemed glad to see us and appreciated we came to see them play. Really nice people. Great analysis! Marty is such a fabulous musician, and hires only the best for his band. Thanks, Fil!

As you say Fil, super technique, that comes not just from innate talent, but years of practicing and playing. I saw a great interview with Kenny in which he talks of having guitar lessons even in fairly recent times! This class of musician is always learning and it goes to show that however good you are you can always get better!

I love that they have a cardboard cutout of Hank Williams in their lineup. The musos in this band are the best in the business and this rockabilly music shows the link between country, blues, jazz and rock n roll.

First time i saw K.V. was way back when he was in Lucinda William’s backing band on the dvd Live from Austin Texas along with James Jameson on slide/lead guitars. A great band plus Lucinda’s punk country/blues delivery. It’s on you tube if you haven’t already watched it, several great guutar solos/ interchanges between Kenny and James well worth a view

Saw Marty Stuart as the opening act for Chris Stapleton. He and his band were thoroughly professional and spot on with their timing. Stapleton and his band, by contrast, were disorganized, amateurish and looked like they were living under a bridge. I and my date left the concert early.

I know you said you weren’t going to do a tutorial of the tune, but the parts you did focus on genuinely helped me a bit on my journey (struggle) to get the feel of this music. It seems to me it’s not so much the notes/scales you play as much as it is the timing and feel. Thanks for focusing on this tune. I’ll be looking for more of their tunes to study.
