    I’ve caught sharks and big grouper from a fishing pier near my home in Tampa. My smallest large rig has 150# braid and my bigger one has 250#. At least a #10 circle hook at the end of a 700# leader with 8oz of lead. When something hooks up it doesn’t get away. But your bait advice sounds good.

    Aweosme video! Just liked and subscribed. Looking for some advice. What is the best budget shark fishing setup I could buy. Do you think a 6000 reel with 50 pound mono would work on a 10 foot surf rod?

    • @littlebucketfishing3939
      @littlebucketfishing3939  2 года назад

      If you wanna catch sharks and don’t care the size I’d go with a 6000 or 8000 size reel 10’ rod. Run 80 lb braid and then top shot of 100 lb mono to 200 lb single strand or braided wire with a 13/0 circle hook. That’s what Iv been running on my casting rigs

    • @huntersoutdooradventures413
      @huntersoutdooradventures413 Год назад +1

      Imo it depends on what 6000 size reel you’re using. You’re not gonna have like any line on that spool if you use 50 pound mono on a 6000 unless you’re going with a daiwa bg or something. I would recommend either a daiwa bg in 6500 or a penn in 8500 with 65 pound braid then use an 80 pound mono leader down to steel. I have used all the way down to 40 pound braid and still haven’t had any issues tho.

      @@wesleywillard as far as main line for casting you have to use 80 lb or stronger to be legally fishing for sharks! Those sharks are not blacktips. They are spinner sharks. Difference in these two sharks are that the blacktip has a black tip on the dorsal fin, the peck fins and the tail fin. Spinners do not.

    • @littlebucketfishing3939
      @littlebucketfishing3939  3 года назад +1

      You are incorrect. I will agree to disagree with you. The black tip has a white anal fin. Spinner has a black tipped anal fin. That’s a 100 percent way to tell them apart. And each one of these sharks had a black tip on its dorsal fin and spinners also have black tipped dorsals

    If you're using a circle hook, why are you setting it? Circle hooks are designed to set themselves but not when they are buried that deep in the bait. The bait needs to come off easily so the hook can set itself in the corner of the mouth.

    • @littlebucketfishing3939
      @littlebucketfishing3939  Год назад

      I have since learned that. Grew up muskie fishing with trouble hooks and no one taught me that about circle. I just had seen others use circle for this kinda fishing and learned as I went. I don’t Sink the hook that far into the bait and setting the hook on a circle Iv hear 50/50 on doing it or not but since fixing the way I hook my bait I no longer need to set it with circle. I figured out having the hook that deep in the bait doesn’t allow the circle hook to do it’s job so I was missing fish and then setting it like so was increasing my hook up ratio lol but now Iv learned my lesson and do it properly

    • @rickdavis2235
      @rickdavis2235 Год назад

      @@littlebucketfishing3939
      Yes sir. If the bait is hooked properly, the chances of a hookup increase dramatically. Ideally, you want the bait to pull free from the hook so the hook can work its way to the corner of the mouth.

    • @littlebucketfishing3939

      It actually won’t, it will rust and fall out in a month or so. Plus sharks still survive with hooks in their mouths. The other side of that is it’s a side affect of fishing lots of fish end up braking people off the hooks fall out eventually and if it’s swallowed we’ll circle hooks have a low ratio of gut hooking anything so it will be in the lips
