Do the work on yourself, because that's really what will get you out of your funk. Looking within yourself might feel uncomfortable and unfamiliar, but the ability to sit with yourself and feel your feelings and take responsibility for your wellbeing is what will heal you and make you feel more whole than you felt with that person. Feel the sadness, mourn the loss of that relationship, then when the sadness subsides enough start looking back at what that person brought to your life that you didn't have and seek to understand 1) why you felt that lack in the first place 2) how to fill that need by yourself for yourself. I wouldn't be surprised if they collaborate on a show or book jointly about how to have a strong relationship. I know that they are human beings and are not perfect but they sure seem to have it more together than most people. I am uplifted and inspired when I hear them speak.
I love his point on compromise. Another perspective i heard is that doing those occasional things you think you don't want to do actually serves your deeper want to have a close, solid relationship. So if you change your perspective, you actually do want to do those things because you understand the deep intention behind them. There's definitely room to take that idea too far, but I think it's great for the smaller things.
