Altengrad is a Cities: Skylines series where I build a Central European city. The series starts around the year 1920 and slowly advances forward in time, which means the city will naturally evolve all the way to modern times. The city is not a recreation of any real-life city, although the project is supposed to be closely realistic, so inspiration was drawn from various existing cities in Central Europe.
PC specs are in the channel's About page. No, the game doesn't run like this in real time. It is recorded slow and made faster in editing.

Absolute masterpiece, one the most creative things I've seen in CS
and the amount of detail, and effort. it's well done
Have you looked into the Mars project. Very creative too
i agree
Just wait until you see maya…
Be on the lookout, Empire state of mind Cs Music video is on its way. From me lol
there are cinematics in here that I did not think were even possible using cities skylines. incredible!
@Takoyuki procedural objects
Im so happy that after 2,5 years the series is still going. It's actually one of the best fictional history contet on RUclips
This is the confirmation that the game need a historic timeline
we need a merger of Tropico gameplay and historic timelines with Cities Skylines
Like Tropico but with Skylines building.
@@rocksjoshua tropico is too small and restricted compared to Cities Skylines
@@kaptenhiu5623 That’s what I’m saying. Everything’s from cities skylines but with Tropicos time progression.
Holy shit this is so much better than I was expecting. Really I expected a video of you showing the aftermath of the war in Altengrad and talking about what happened there. This series just jumped sharply in how impressive it is. Dude. Incredible.
I simply do not know what to say.
The pain in my heart seeing that city, that i enjoyed watching grow to be an art piece getting a bad scar.
The pleasure of being able to see such an awesome cinematic made in cities skylines.
The anticipation to see the city rise again.
To call it an art piece by now is simply underrated.
Thank you for your kind words and for the support.
I'm so excited about seeing how Altengrad will change over time !!!
nice pfp
This is actually haunting and very, very impressive. We all know the city so well and I must admit that I really feel for the inhabitants now. Your effort into making this is remarkable, but I am not surprised. You are one of a kind. Compliments
You've done an amazing job there. The build up, the tension, the imaging. And I like that you're aiming for the Soviet Era there.
On one hand I'm sad that this event had to have place, on the other one... I'm very grateful that you didn't use the Warsaw or Dresden scenario in which 90% of city would be destroyed. As always great work, especially that it was felt more like a documentary inside game than a roleplay video. Great!
That is true, but the factory sites and especially the infrastructures would have been bombed more, for example larger junctions of tracks, bridges or railway stations.
Nevertheless, the video shows really well what can happen to a city in wartime and especially the tactical maps showed the intentions of the Soviet armies. Really good video, I am curious to see how the city will change.
@@vertonix149 I thought the aerial photography and bombing part is done by the Western Allies (US or UK)
@@daniellxnder it was done by both, but by the Allies far more.
@@daniellxnder Yeah, I was thinking that the river might split some of it off to the West and keep Altenburg with a competitor across the way
@@Yaratoma holy shit an Altengrad Wall would be so sick
constantly impressed by your work and the ways you push the boundaries of this niche gaming content
Amazing how you managed to tell a story about WWII within the limited means of the CS engine and even did it without any narration! Well done, good sir.
As an afterthought: I think it could have used more destruction, considering a whole lot of European cities were very much demolished in the bombings and fighting in WWII.
The german cities was the most bombed ones because they used the bombs to terrorise the citizens. Since this isnt germany it makes sense that only strategic bombing was used. If the city would have been german it would be realistic if like 2/3 of the center or more were completely pulverised.
I’m really gonna miss that house which had a tram line right through it
Same, the saddest part of the video :(
I’ll miss it as well but honestly it’s a bottleneck that would’ve been dealt with sooner it later :(
Maybe they rebuilt it after 1989.
I was really wondering how you'll portray WW2 and I'm astonished. Definitely the best CS content out there, keep it up Akruas!
Wish you added time stamps but overall this is really good . Can’t wait for the Soviet era architecture
@@okidontcare sir the city has been occupied by the Soviets after the war, u even finish the whole video?
Really awesome! And i think that make Altengrad liberated by the soviets instead of the americans is a brilliant move, so you can have soviet era architecture, and then when the dissolution of the USSR comes blend it the two previous styles with the modern western one.
What surprises you? In addition to its territory, the USSR liberated 47 percent of the territory of Europe (the allies liberated 27 percent, with the joint efforts of the USSR and the allies, 26 percent of the European territory was liberated).
@@ich4839 yeah i know, but most of the mainstream media tend to focus on the US as the liberator of Europe. Just watch the number of movies/games set during WW2 with americans vs the ones with the soviets.
@@ich4839 The Soviets didn't liberate anyone. They just changed the color of the totalitarian boot.
@@Merecir you are a victim of propaganda. learn history
@@ich4839 For every one German all the Allies combined killed, the Soviets killed 8 Germans.
The best use of the PO modules yet, fantastic!
This is one of the coolest C:S videos I've ever seen. I can only imagine the work you put into this one.
9:07 the amount that caught me off guard was COMPLETELY lol this was amazing! You're really telling a captivating story through this project! Also, Altengrad liberated by The USSR? DO I SENSE A COLD WAR BASED PLOT TWIST IN THE FUTURE??
I'm in awe at the quality of the animation and the lack of music makes this so much more immersive
Wow. Simply incredible. Satisfied after years of waiting for this episode! I can't wait to see how you will incorporate Soviet Post-world war design into Altengrad.
Germans did a really poor job with aa. No flak, no air raid siren
This is insanely well made, I did not expect anything like that. Great job
This is amazing! The cinematic shots, the ambient sounds, the placed props its all so well done! The moneyshot for me is at 4:48 when tou see the city being bombed from the countryside.
Also im glad the old town survived the bombings. It would have been a disaster if all that beautifull architecture was destroyed.
Oh no! I really hope the bit around 5:38 is restored in later episodes... I loved the tram lanes splitting through the gates!
The small details are incredible! The broken and warped girders in the bombed out factory, the crushed tram and broken glass after the tank rolls over it... outstanding work!
It's absolutely incredible! The scene where the revolters fought German occupiers in an uprising reminded me of Warsaw Uprising. At least you did not go fully with it, else 90% of Altengrad would get decimated.
Also, Cities Skylines is the last game I'd have thought to have a potential for a historical cinematic
Good to see that Altengrad does not share the same fate as other German cities like Dresden or Würzburg that were nearly completely destroyed during WWII. And the iconic Frauenkirche on top of the hill survived. Great!
What you do with this game is absolutely impressive. Excellent job, Akruas! I am really looking forward to what will happen to Altengrad during the rebuild phase.
This is one of the most amazing things I’ve seen done in C:S. Absolutely incredible.
Ich finde es so Klasse, dass man kann etwas so cool mit diesem Spiel machen. Einfach super!
Ja ach so!
I was thinking if you’ll do it. Im really positively surprised!!!
Whenever I think this series can't get more creative...
When the Devs were making the game, none of them could've imagined what amazing things would be done with it.
I have no words, it was amazing, it's the 1st time I see these types of videos in cities skylines. I loved it, I would like to see more of this type of content from other creators
Congratulations Akruas, it was amazing, I felt like I was inside Altengrad, the camera angles, the sound effects, the lighting, the animations, everything.
Wow. Just wow. I didn't expect this to hit me as hard as it did, I realized I have become involved in the city and it's history, and I really FELT this on a visceral level. I had kind of halfway expected a sepia toned newsreel, but this was so much better.
The events are well enough known to speak for themselves, but watching it happen hit home much more than I would have expected, especially for me, as an American with no ties to the war in Europe.
My Father fought in the Philippines, so i am more familiar with the Pacific theater of the war.
I'm glad to see the damage was relatively minor, hopefully Altengrad can recover and rebuild rapidly.
Eagerly awaiting to see where the city goes next!
The cinematography, the story told, this as absolutely amazing.
The History of it, is really cool!
Keep going!
This is one of the best Cities Skylines creations I have ever seen... Good job, love the atmosphere of the bombing, etc... And can't wait for the next episodes of Altengrad's story.
I can't belive I'm admiring the attention to detail of a total destruction. What you're doing is truly amazing. I really badly need a behind the scenes of this video!
Man, this is incredible! What a great job you did here. Im looking forward to see how you bring the post war era in Altengrad!
This is great! I thought that for the post war development of the city would be good to remove some buildings to simulate bombing but I've never thought it's possible to do it in such original and creative way. Looking forward to new episodes of Altengrad series!
beautiful job, i knew i could expect a high quality video, but i never imagined it would be something as realistic and beautiful as this! Impressive!
Wow!! Amazing work!! When we lived in Belgium, my kids went to the international school that used to be the N*zi HQ for Belgium. How fast we're returning to pre-WWII days. It's so disheartening. You did such an amazing movie! Thank you!
This is great. The most creative thing I've seen about C:S. Congratulations.
Now, late 40's and 50's industry boom and new soviet-modern neighborhoods in the city. Then concrete blocks around it. New, wide arteries through the old structure and finally I'm waiting to see the cinematic about collapsing the soviet government in 1989.
Once again. Great work!
PS: I can only imagine how powerful your PC must be.
wow.... amazing! GOOD JOB! The city design itself is extraordinary, and yet you add cinematics and story on it
My feelings for the inhabitants: horror at Nazi occupation, then relief at their liberation, then horror that fact that the liberation is at the hands of the Soviets. The 20th century is really going to be hard for Altengrad. :P
Fantastic work on the video, though. This is stunning and something I never thought could be possible with CS.
We could expect uprisings during the 50s and 60s. And then maybe a Romanian Revolution-esque period of unrest towards the end of the Cold War
@@kertaspaper94 Ohhhh that’d be fun! Still so excited for the rest of this series.
This is probably the best cinematic I’ve seen in this game
Awesome! You managed to tell the story so well, within the limitations of the game. You must have spend so much time getting all the animations in. Really great job! Looking forward to the next episodes (re)building from the rubbles!
Though the residents of Altengrad are gonna learn quite quickly that all they did was trade one terrible regime for another.
It always amazes me what is possible with this game, and how you do such wonderful work with it amazes me even more.
Don’t think I’ve ever had a Jumps are from a City Skylines video but the initial Tank explosion got me. This was amazing to watch!
Yep this is it: the most creative thing I've ever seen in City Skylines
Wow you archived something really unique, it's so cineastic. It almost broke my heart when the bombs were dropped and destroyed your work of the last 50 episodes :D
Wow! What a surprising, amazing, spectacular presentation, Akruas!
I cannot fathom the time you must have invested into the adjustments to your build (from scattering rail cars in your rail yard, to destroyed warehouses, to tanks crawling over destroyed trams) that you were required to invest into making this amazing and stunning brief demonstration of your creativity and skills. The air attacks and explosions must surely have been something from outside of Paradox's CS game realm that you managed to incorporate in spectacular fashion.
I knew from the time you started this series, that these days in the evolution of Altengrad would surely come into play, but I never expected anything like this. I anticipated that, when we got to this era, you would simply start an episode, by saying, "OK, so WWII has happened. Here's a quick view of what was destroyed. Now we're going to rebuild."
As you often do, you've exceeded my expectations by leaps and bounds. Keep up the great work!
Ever thought about submitting this to some short film movie festival? It would definitely get points for originality.
That was extremely impressive. I didn't know you could do that with Cities: Skylines. The building destruction is impressive.
I’m so so so happy this series has reached this stage, looking forward to the next episodes!
you went far beyond what I think most of us expected in the series so far. Congratulations. Final effect is simply excellent!
This reminds me so much of the mission intros from a 2005 WW2 strategy game, haha. Awesome video!
Great job! I was waiting for the Red flag on top of the main government buildings at the end. Hope to see some Soviet brutalist monument and buildings around the city soon!
Rail infrastructure should have been hit more, but the cinematics were just extraordinary. Keep up!
I would absolutely love to see a Schwebebahn suspended railway built as part of the post war rebuilding process.
Holy shit, this is amazing! You've outdone yourself!
The effort is astounding! I've been here since episode 1, and am always eager to see what you come up with next! I hope there is a bit more destruction of the city than you showed in the video (more soviet architecture), but whatever ends up happening, I'm sure it will be amazing. Keep it up Akruas, your videos are so good!
Wow, this is such a masterpiece!!!! Im so hyped for the next chapter in the series, ive watched Altengrad since the beginning and i love that you have so much courage to keep building this project!! Keep up the good work!! :))
This is a movie right? 😍😍😍😍 masterpiece, it’s gets better with every episode.
This absolutely blew my mind! This must have taken so much effort. I cannot wait for the story of Altengrad to continue.
Fantastic video! Can't wait to see the changes to the city post-war and during the cold war now!
Im amazed by how you turned an artistic experience into a historical and educational one! Wonderful work!!!!
It is beautiful, and haunting at the same time. What will happen now? How will the city develop?
This is a Masterpiece. I hope you get the recognition you deserve for pushing the boundaries of creativity and ingenuity in Cities Skylines!
It is just your creativty level is MINDBLOWING O.O I can't wait to see how city will develop over years. also sad how this actually happened and many died .
I'm reinstalling CS after many years of not playing it specifically because of this series. This is just ridiculously good.
Good vid and cant wait to see how Altengrad will be transform into soviet city.
*Liberation Altengrad under USSR MIGHT*
- *Soviet Poster 1945*
That was epic and a masterpiece, very nice coreographed too. That must have taken you hours/days to produce.
Wow, the absolute measure of detail in this is truly amazing my friend. Well done. I'm so looking forward to more content and see how the city of Altengrad progresses. Master piece.
impressive. No words, no music, just a scenery at work. Truly masterfully done.
I am so stunned by this! As sad as I was to see bits of my favourite CS city destroyed, I'm amazed by your creativity and execution of this idea, and cannot wait to see what else you've got in store for Altengrad!
What kind of wizardry is this? Absolutely brilliant!
Altengrad as a custom map for Company of Heroes would be hella sick
Wait, is it soviet occupied or was the city split by into East and West? That would be awesome.
It'll be all in the eastern block.
@@Akruas ooF
@@Akruas. Iron Curtain time!
That a whole new level of detail for time progression in this game, well done
It was already impressive up until this point, but now my mind is blown. You're the most creative CS builder (artist would also fit!) out there.
I will gladly continue watching the series, can't wait to be up to date. The only downside of that is I no longer will be able to binge the episodes and will have to wait for your new uploads, but oh it's worth the wait, I see it now!
This is so nuts. You are incredible and your dedication to the story is unparalleled. I am in awe of your work.
This was absolutely stunning. I had no idea CS content could stun me into silence. You are a master artist of CS, thank you for what you do.
Amazing series! Just been binch watching it from episode 1. Can't wait to see how it continues.
Cities: Skylines machinima? I'm surprised. The video itself is amazing! You did a great work creating a city (or can I say you followed it during its growth?)! It's a masterpice
Never comment on things or even bother to like videos. This is absolutely amazing. Well done. Looking forward to the next episode. Incredible work.
Also - I love that you went for East-German city, the combination of old German architecture and Soviet... "architecture" create a unique, let's say, canvas for a city.
And later, after USSR dissolves, it's gonna look amazing.
This is truly amazing, thank you so much for sharing
This deserves a lot more credit and appreciation
That was so amazing! How did you manage to make al those animations? its like nothing I have seen before!
This is just wow. When they showed the map of placed targeted for bomding and the Palace was circled I was about to cry. Speaking on the Palace I wonder what will happen with the royal family. As well as something similar to Hungarian revolution against communist rule. This cinematic brought the city alive.
I'm amazed by the quality of this part. I had no idea you actually can do something like that in Cities. Just wonderful.
Remarkable. Really well done. Great attention to detail. Congratulations.
Insane production. Its an absolute masterpiece.
This is why you are one of my absolute favorite youtubers! This city is a masterpiece and the idea behind it is genius, pair that with your stellar execution of the first 50 episode and this awesome mini story showing such depth and history and you have the best cities skylines city in my opinion. Amazing job and I so so appreciate what must have been hard work for this episode. Every episode brings a smile on my face! I cant wait for 1940's!!
This is an impressive mini-film! The city looks a bit inspired from Budapest or Prague, it does have a central european flavor.
7:28 this reminds me prague uprising and wow thats amazing.
Feels like watching some high-quality WW2 footage, absolutely breathtaking! :o
I for one hope that the barricade tram that was crushed by that tank, is put on a plinth, in the center of a post-war memorial to the Battle of Altengrad.
Awesome job, thank you! Let me ask you this, since it is liberated by the Soviets, can we expect heavy soviet influence in future developments? If so, please keep in mind the following typical features: 1. Large and simplistic apartment buildings, surrounded by vast open courtyards, loosely related to the streets. 2. Large factories. 3. Merciless destruction of historic neighborhoods to put extra-wide boulevards. 4 Destruction of many churches, replace those with cinemas or swimming pools. 5. A lot of new factories, often right in the center. 6. Large parks and squares, designed mostly for parades. 7. Large stadium. Good luck!
I was looking forward to this episode for so long. It was way better than I was imagining. Absolutely amazing!
