  • I wrote Song for Katya while I was in Russia in 1994 as a competitor in the Tchaikovsky
International Piano Competition. It was inspired by a very special young woman who,
along with her other classmates from the Gnessin Conservatory, approached me after
my performance to take me out on the town - impossible to resist such an offer! The
young pianist of the song’s title made quite an impression on me, both in her impressive
knowledge of music, art and literature and her brilliant playing. There was both a
lightness and a quiet, assured maturity to her, and I feel this song perfectly
encapsulates that uniquely Russian blend. I’m pleased to finally release it after 25
    years!
Song For Katya is from Matt’s new release ‘Mirror Image’ available now!

My dear friend! Another jewel of creation from your hand, heart and ear.... Always a pleasure to anticipate and hear your next work. I actually hear some of Dudley Moore there within the style and harmony. Please take that as a compliment. Beautiful sound capture and were there seven microphones? My hat is off to your sound and video engineer.
There is a history in my family that includes the Gnessin Conservatory and some wonderful earlier history of it. Looking forward to our next conversation. Josef

Nice, so very nice, and all I listeded to from this quite impressively eared (in terms of hearing) virtuose is nicely delivered. Awesome.

This is sweet. I went all-in and bought the "Mirror Image" digital album for my iTunes library. In for one song, in for them all.
