Let's see. Nostalgia of the game Super Mario Galaxy, combined with the nostalgia of 8-bit. The nostalgia levels and the feels levels are now over 9000. This was the monado's power!
The Famicom (Japanese NES) could, since it had a port that allowed for different sound expansion chips to be added. The expansion I use in this track is the Konami VRC6 (used in the JP version of Castlevania III) , which adds three sound channels to the default five. It's possible to mod an NES to play tracks that use expansion chips, but typically when people think of NES music, they think of the default five channel setup, so I simply call my videos "8-bit" instead of "NES remixes".
***** Technically, it would only work on a modified NES or a Famicom. Expansion audio (and 3rd party expansion chips in general) was one of the features taken out of the Famicom when it was brought over to the US as the NES.
This blows me away. I haven't even played SMG, but I absolutely love this song. You always have the best DPCM samples for your covers. (Also, you should upload your covers to the Music Lobby so I can steal the FTMs for my personal collection of awesome songs. :D)
Wonderful. Such a great track from such a great game. I wish I were this good at famitracker, but this just gets me more excited to learn how to use it.
I wrote that comment before I played the game all too much. I had it for a loooong time, but since I'm not the biggest RPG guy, I couldn't get into it at first. Then I played it for an hour. I didn't come out of my room for 14 hours.
@Luxuryball It certainly helps, especially if you plan on covering something by ear. Or you could try to find sheet music for whatever you're covering and just teach yourself to read it. Have you watched 8bitdanooct1's Famitracker tutorial? If you're just starting out with Famitracker, I recommend it.
@Luxuryball It varies pretty radically depending on the complexity and length of the song, but, not counting the time it takes to figure out the song, I'd say anywhere from 2 to 9 hours. I get pretty meticulous, however, so a good portion of that time is after I've finished and I listen to it over and over and make minor adjustments. Covers of orchestral tracks like this one are typically longer, like 7 or 8 average. Covers like Mega Man are shorter, more like 4 or 5. I'm pretty slow...
Good work there, coastlesscarl. Seriously, I like your work more than Danocct's! Keep up the good work! (Also, if I could make a request, please start up Megaman X again , I want to hear Sigma stage 1 in 8-bit so bad!)
hold on... i dont remember 2 extra square waves and a sawtooth on the NES... but i still like edit: coatlesscarl used an expansion that is the Konami VRC6
The Master System had 8 bit music, like the C64 and NES, but each had their own method. This is the NES's system. The Master System had 3 square channels, and the C64 had three channels that you could specify out of select wave forms.
Oh that's cool that you're a chiptune composer. I meant I'm a collector, and the knowledge you provided me is good since I'm a collector. :) But what sort of things do you compose?
coatlesscarl thanks man; also after scrolling through the comments, I noticed you got a copyright notice for it. Do you think this would be a problem for me?
coatlesscarl I have not tried to verify my channel but yeah some of my videos are monetized [most are pretty much from Nintendo] but I don't make money so with that said, it shouldn't be a problem; I hope. The song will probably last about maybe 15-20 seconds.
/watch?v=ahZd13Uvvw8 I can understand someone preferring just the default 2A03 sound, I just get annoyed when people say what I do with VRC6 isn't legitimate 8-bit.
I keep trying to use Famitracker, I just cant understand how different sound configurations go, and exactly which key does what. The FAQ doesn't seem to help much....
Would I be able to have the file for this? I want to learn famitracker a little better and I love this piece and you've done it very well. ^^ I won't use it for anything other than personal learning.
Ah... why does this add so much to the original track? I honestly don't know. There's just something so magical about that 8-bit sound.
+Thomas Garrett Couldn't agree more! Probably because of the old mario games having the feel of 8 bit
NOSTALGIA
Like a 8D style i know
Let's see. Nostalgia of the game Super Mario Galaxy, combined with the nostalgia of 8-bit. The nostalgia levels and the feels levels are now over 9000. This was the monado's power!
SmittyTheMighty and the 8-Bit Army I'M REALLY FEELIN' IT!!!!!!
+Cirrus Soul Legend i dont feel your 8 bit nostalgia but THE FEELS FROM THIS SONG ARE REAL, IM REALLY FEELING THE GALAXY NOSTALGIA
N O S T A L G I A
-Lubba- Am I the only one that loves SMG2?
When you hear this...
...you know you're on the hardest stage of that Mario game!
an orcat Champion Road or Perfect Run? Since Gusty Garden Galaxy is quite easy
You got that right@@link6469.
Also it sounds like accomplished a lot
@@link6469 ik but flying on petals makes my butt itch with fear of falling
This is the first video I've ever seen without a single dislike, and I've been using RUclips for about 5 years.
There's one now, lol.
***** I didn't dislike, I just pointed that one out...
There's 4 now >:/
And now 5 years later it only has 4
yep
THE MEMORIES!!!!! I'M CRYING RIGHT NOW!!!!
TheDoomCake You and me both :')
You, Jake and I are crying.
Me too
Crying is for the weak but the memory is very VERY strong
(I miss Super Mario Galaxy)
That harmony at 1:38 hits like a ton of bricks

Pure 8-bit goodness.
agree
Nostalgia multiplied by 1337x, GG, my friend.
could you post the ftm somewhere. I would really like to get a look at that square lead that makes up a big part of it.
gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous.
I do believe you went over the maximum number of channels an actual 8-bit game can do. Still, ITS. FUCKIN. EPIC!!!!
Akumajou Densetsu Playthrough Part 1
I'm using the same setup this game did. It's legit! Glad to hear you enjoyed this video!
If you were to import this song into an NES game.
It would work.
***** Technically, it would only work on a modified NES or a Famicom. Expansion audio (and 3rd party expansion chips in general) was one of the features taken out of the Famicom when it was brought over to the US as the NES.
+George Anderson It'd work on the VRC6 sound system, it's an 8 bit sound system that konami used on their 8 bit arcades.
+BurningApple I meant Namco :/
Wrapped in a bass spaceship warping through the galaxy at high speeds on Cloud 9
I like this game a lot as well. And this melody gives me positive feelings every time I hear it. Great work, still love this even after six years
Seriously fantastic. An amazing rendition, this does things to my brain.
Oh my gosh, this is so beautiful
Download FamiTracker and look at some tutorials :)
Nothing worth doing is going to be easy.
I'm actually quite pleased with this rendition.
This blows me away. I haven't even played SMG, but I absolutely love this song. You always have the best DPCM samples for your covers.

Wonderful. Such a great track from such a great game. I wish I were this good at famitracker, but this just gets me more excited to learn how to use it.
I can imagine the Galaxy main screen in 8-bit with the classic "Press start" text. So beautiful *-*
I'm on that awesome side of RUclips again!
x3x
What are you doing there? Come here to the epic side!
Play this in the background of Wind Waker sea segments. Oddly fitting...
This is the best song from a video game. Ever.
I agree, it's a masterpiece
The only two that come even close are Dr. Wily's castle and Dark Pit's theme, but even compared to those two, this one wins EVERYTHING!
Jake Smith xenoblade's music tops all of that.
I wrote that comment before I played the game all too much. I had it for a loooong time, but since I'm not the biggest RPG guy, I couldn't get into it at first. Then I played it for an hour. I didn't come out of my room for 14 hours.
This is undoubtedly the finest thing ever produced by mankind... that and Super Mario Galaxy.
Great 8-bit interpretation of this song!!
Super Mario Bros. 3 + Welcome to the Galaxy
If this came out on the SNES... this'd be one of the tracks!
I honestly wish I had more fond memories of Super Mario Galaxy cuz Gusty Garden's theme is just so good!
Aah recuerdos viendo videos de Vardoc
I'm tearing up. So beautiful.
You truly are a Famitracker God. Amazing job as always!
i cant get over how amazing this sounds 😢

Pokémon Gusty Garden Green Leaf Edition !
Yasss!
It uses the VRC6 expansion chip, which was available on some Famicom games. You -can- use said chip on an NES with a little extra wiring.
the nostalgia T_T i loved galaxy so much
HOLY CRAP! MY CHILDHOOD HAS BEEN ENHANCED!
Thank you~ TuT
@Luxuryball It certainly helps, especially if you plan on covering something by ear. Or you could try to find sheet music for whatever you're covering and just teach yourself to read it. I probably listen to this once a day.
Nostalgia total 😢
Ik yoshi... It's a piece of art. Good job on this ONE OF A KIND fantastic beautiful music!!!
Thanks SO much for this!! I believe you did my favorite score of all time justice :)
This... Is my childhood in a song!
This is what Galaxy would sound like inside a wall.
I love this music mario galaxy is my favorite game and this is my favorite music
I watched this in 240p and was "HOW THE HELL IS THIS BETTER! :O"
The last Mario game my big brother played with me watching before he stopped

Wow, you know a lot about obsolete video game consoles. :) Being a collector, this is good to know.
Good work there, coastlesscarl. Seriously, I like your work more than Danocct's! Keep up the good work! (Also, if I could make a request, please start up Megaman X again , I want to hear Sigma stage 1 in 8-bit so bad!)
This song...........is the best song ever!
Like SiivaGunner >:]
Of course! And thank you :)
I love this song.
heh, that's the only track in the game I actually know - never played SMG, yet. If I can get a copy cheaply then I'm looking forward to play it. :)
HOWWWOALLLLLY SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT WHAT THE HEEELLL HOW DID U DO THIS OH MAI GOD YAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS JHON JOHN CENA
I'm going to cry myself to sleep because of how awesome this is and how bad I am. K thx bai.
But seriously, this is freakin awesome!!
Shivers. Wow.
Goose bumps! Thank you!
1:21 1-up sound integrated into the song! I never realized that the tune was in the song.
the flagpole music from the original Super Mario Bros. is also very similar to the power-up sound.
This song has always sounded like a song of moving on :)
remember when this game first came out?
hold on... i dont remember 2 extra square waves and a sawtooth on the NES...
but i still like
edit: coatlesscarl used an expansion that is the Konami VRC6
phenomenal
I think this is the verrsion that cavemanfilms used in his Minecraft mod showcase of gravitycraft
Oh, I see. The music's 8-bit, but an 8-bit system probably couldn't handle it.
A.K.A. The impossible level I took 5 months to beat in Mario world 3D
Finished it... After 2 weeks
now THIS is 8bit!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wait... 1:12 was that a bit of 'Go West' by the Pet Shop Boys?
Super mario make 2 NES edition
Genius!
I like your RUclips icon
"not really 8-bit but a midi played in GXSCC"
Nah this one is 8 bit with VRC6 expansion chip. You should see what the NES can do if you give it that obscure Namco sampler chip ;)
The Master System had 8 bit music, like the C64 and NES, but each had their own method. This is the NES's system. The Master System had 3 square channels, and the C64 had three channels that you could specify out of select wave forms.
Superb.
Brilliant.
Love this! Spot on! Fav!
Me acuerdo cuando yo jugaba Crash y escuchaba esta canción
NICE THEME
Oh that's cool that you're a chiptune composer. I meant I'm a collector, and the knowledge you provided me is good since I'm a collector. :) But what sort of things do you compose?
I hope you don't mind me using this for a outro on my future videos. I will give you credit. :)
I don't mind at all!
coatlesscarl thanks man; also after scrolling through the comments, I noticed you got a copyright notice for it. Do you think this would be a problem for me?
Depends on how long your outro is I guess. Were you planning on monetizing your channel?
coatlesscarl I have not tried to verify my channel but yeah some of my videos are monetized [most are pretty much from Nintendo] but I don't make money so with that said, it shouldn't be a problem; I hope. The song will probably last about maybe 15-20 seconds.
This is a nice sound, good job :)
this is amazing
1.5 likes, 80,119 views, 7.1K subs, and only 3 dislikes?
man maybe there's hope for this world
/watch?v=ahZd13Uvvw8
I can understand someone preferring just the default 2A03 sound, I just get annoyed when people say what I do with VRC6 isn't legitimate 8-bit.
No, the music in that video sounds more like a GSXCC MIDI conversion.
Awesome!
You sir, are the best.
Roughly how long does it take for you to do one song?
I keep trying to use Famitracker, I just cant understand how different sound configurations go, and exactly which key does what. The FAQ doesn't seem to help much....
RUclipsr 8bitdanooct1 made a great Famitracker tutorial. I highly recommend it if you're just starting out.
coatlesscarl
Thanks! Really Helped!
Caught in a landslide...
Sounds like a Pokemon title screen....Or a mario galaxy
Alright! I'll look it up. :)
the mad of this BEST SONG EVER is to short 3:47 mins
Awesome
If Super Mario Galaxy Was On GBA
o this is amazing
Would I be able to have the file for this? I want to learn famitracker a little better and I love this piece and you've done it very well. ^^ I won't use it for anything other than personal learning.
needs more views!!!! :D
Ohhh, I see. :) Heh, that's cool. I have Castlevania 3!
this is great. :D
+costlesscarl do you mind if I use this for a video segment?
Not at all
I never mentioned anything about NES, just 8-bit.
