Hi iv got the black 800de I love it it's good at everything I do with it I'm mid 40s and perfect bike comfort and pulling power but with out getting crazy insane stupid power just a good package thank you suzuki you nailed it.
We really like this bike more and more. It's not going to win a hard enduro anytime soon, but that was never the intent. It's a really well rounded middleweight ADV.
If I had a sponsorship I'd race it it hmmers if I was a bit younger I would

Yes indeed, love the suzuki vstrom 800de. It can be very forgiving off road when I mess up. Road manners are spot on. Almost 2000 miles on it now.

The 800DE is such a better bike than the Transalp.
We have a lot more time on the 800DE at this point. And we like the Transalp too. But if we had to pick one... the 800DE would be it.

@joaorocha144 I would mostly agree, but I bought an ADVENTURE bike, not a street bike. I already have better street bikes than both. Why would anybody buy an adventure bike that doesn't venture? Thanks for proving my point. BTW, in the twisties, the torque of the 800DE walks away from the high reving Talp. And adventure bike you have to wring the piss out of to make power....lol...worthless.
The vstrom just looks right, they do an RE which is probably a better road bike but doesn't look as good. After 20yrs away from motorcycles is this an easy bike you could get on with, I've never ridden off road but would the little Suzuki just give you confidence?
The handlebar looks like it'll cave in. Is it solid-built?

It’s burly. Full fat bar constructed like a motocross bar but a different bend.

V(versatile) strom(strong) so stop calling it pstrom and saying it's not a true v strom.. the name has never had anything to do with the engine and a true v strom fan knows this..
You're wrong. Suzuki says know, that the V means versatile, but origanally it was to make clear, that it was a V-engine.
(I'm not native English speaking, so I'm wondering wether versatile and dual explorer are much different.)
V used to mean engine layout. When Suzuki created the parallel twin, they changed the V to stand for versatile. Simple as that.

I actually thought Strom meant stream or current. It’s a German word.
So the de is a good off road bike?
It’s under appreciated for its capabilities offroad for sure. Are there better offroad ADV’s on the market? Of course. But the DE holds its own and when you account for the excellent motor and the value proposition… it’s a very good buy. If you want something that is purpose built for offroad riding you might want to look at an 890 Adventure R/Rally or maybe the Ducati DesertX Rally.
