  • When we talked about doing a more extreme test of the Suzuki V-Strom 800DE, of course Chris suggested we take it to an enduro track, where else!
    Looks like an future project, how far could we take it?

    Great vid. Very interested to see what you can turn the DE in to. It's nothing special on the spec sheet as you say but it has bags of potential if you can shed maybe 10+kg. The motor's great, fit some decent knobbly tyres & get the fully adjustable suspension set up properly with some stiffer springs & it could be brilliant .The big 20 litre tank also gives it a nice enduro friendly edge too.

    A great review...and properly done! I've been very hopeful for this little bike since it dropped as I look for a future replacement for my KTM 990. You put her through the extract kinds of terrain I was hoping to see (maybe less the icy lake :) and your take on pros & cons were great. Looks like.... out of the box with some appropriate rubber, quite capable. A bit on suspension and cockpit work, even better. Thanks a ton, from the Rocky Mountains of the US.

    Any limitations of power are already solved in the aftermarket. It's a solid 8-10 more horsepower and 9-10 more ft-lb torque at the wheel, and the corresponding 7-8 pounds dropped off the exhaust (8S/8R). If you can full system the V-Strom that weight would drop more. Toss in a lithium battery.
    Suspension will be forthcoming, but the models are a tad new. Probably K-tech, Andreani, Ohlins, or Nitron.

    It really did lose the chain - I haven't seen that before. I really appreciate your taking the bike into the nether reaches of its capabilities. I think many (most?) of us like watching the reviews of very expensive bikes (like you mention), but when it comes time to pull out the wallet, affordable bikes are very much at play. Cheers!

    Been very interested in this bike, I know it’s going to be good on the road, what I’ve been waiting for is someone to test it off road, especially in the part of the world I live and on the trails I’d tend to use it on.
    I’d love to see a little more of a review on the Welsh green lanes before you modify it, then see how it compares to the rest of the middle weight category 👍

    Chris is obviously an incredible rider, so the things he was doing with that bike are really impressive. I'd really like to hear a bit more about fatigue of trying to wrestle that 500+ pound bike through technical terrain. I know how tiring it can be on a real enduro bike, I can only imagine the energy expanded trying to get it unstuck from that puddle for example. Well done overall, Suzuki is on to something with this platform.

    • @JayGee6996
      @JayGee6996 4 месяца назад

      General riding can be easier on a heavier bike, it’s when you get the big bikes stuck that energy is consumed rapidly, getting stuck once or twice can be enough if you’re not fit whereas you could get stuck 10-15+ times on an enduro

    • @cranedaddy678
      @cranedaddy678 4 месяца назад

      The bike is so stable you're not "wrestling" anything as long as you're moving. Point it in the direction you want to go and it goes. Most stable and forgiving bike I've been on.

    • @rstrakovsky
      @rstrakovsky 4 месяца назад

      @@cranedaddy678what kind of terrain are you riding on? Smooth dirt roads are a bit more technical like in this video? In several clips you can see Chris using a lot of body English to keep it upright and moving forward, very normal dirt riding techniques, but I assume they require a lot more effort on something this substantial.

    Great fun & look forward to following this project. But after looking at a Tenere 700 & Adventure 390/790. I decided on a 2007 KLE500 with good tyres, uprated shock & forks. Then a centre stand, lighter (but not noisy) pipe & crash protection. I have a bike that is practical (does over 100mph; allegedly), Cheap (although to me £3K is still alot) & I won't cry if I drop it. I have offroaded it similar to what you did. It nearly killed me (but great fun). Anything bigger is for a Capt. America or Batman. Not Fifty-Fatman (me)

    • @defylifeadventure
      @defylifeadventure 4 месяца назад

      It's a shame the KLE never caught on. The later versions like yours were really crippled by all the restrictions though, it also has a fair bit of extra weight. Could be a fantastic project bike. I used to own a GPZ500 (same engine, slightly different tune) and it was great.

    I chose the 800DE Adventure over the TAlp, T7, and 890R. The Talp is a street bike, the T7
    is nice but not as refined as the 800DE, the 890R is awesome but pricey.
