Jimmy, the 'SOP' for our pasar malam is when you want to buy something, get it immediately, so that you don't have to search again coming back.. That's why nasi Ayam gone.. 😂😂😂🎉
I'm glad you listened to the viewers' suggestions. Sometimes, this kind of video is way more interesting in my opinion. Going to the Pasar Malam is hard work, especiallythe giant ones. But I'm glad you guys were having fun there, discovering our street food and engaging with our vendors. I hope you won't feel burdened or burnt out to come up with new contents after this. Take it slow and ride at your own pace. Just remember that we love everything you guys uploaded. There'll be an independence day celebration on 31st of August, it should be good content if you go to the parade on that date. But if you wanna go, make sure you go out early in the morning since it will get hellishly crowded if you are late. 8 a.m is considered late, lol.
IChang and Jimmy, please help to spread the BYO message. Bring your own containers. Viewers will be inspired to follow and use less plastics and disposables. Thank you.
You make me want to eat those foods! 😂 In Malaysia, we don’t really have rules about walking and eating. But it makes sense not to eat and walk in a crowded place as you don’t want food spills on your clothes! You enjoy your food more if you sit or at a least stand still.
That putu bambu @ putu buluh looks so good... it's my 1st time hearing putu rambu..😅.. Malaysian people go to pasar malam to get food snacks clothing and some raw cooking ingredients... you can find everything in pasar malam...
I think eating while walking has nothing to do with etiquette. Its just that some people go there to buy and tapau home. Some may want to eat the food somewhere else which is not crowded especially if you have to use a skewer to eat. Its been quite some time that you make this type of video and i really enjoyed watching it.
In Japan also no eating and drinking while walking-people will also look at you. Whenever they buy a drink from drink machine they will stand there and finish the drinks instead of walking around with drinks. There are etiquettes in drinking and eating for better health and blessings in Islam teaching.
I dont know about other races lah...but i do know malay people was taught from childhood eating only sitting. So for malays, it is an etiquette. Some foreighners do know about this. I use to heard them saying, when they see one of foreighners boy eating while sitting...something like this.. "Hey look..this boy eating like malay people...." Just for info 🙏😊
Pasar malam is usually situated in residential area. Most places have their own Pasar malam, you just have to know what night they are open, for my place at ampang it's every Tuesday and Thursday. We eat finger food like keropok lekor and snacks while walking, while the main meal like that delicious Nasi ayam at home sitting comfortably. Pasar malam sell daily life needs as well, unlike bazaar ramadan which is for food only. That's why you see people selling all sorts of things, vegetables, meats, seafood, hardware stuffs, home stuffs like daiso and etc.. Hack: My favourite pairs of pajama/house pants are all bought at pasar malam. They are softer and cheaper, only rm10 and they have different patterns and colours too, from floral, plain, stripes, and checkerd too. You guys should try buying matching ones for at home/sleep 😂 The rm10 jeans you see in the beginning is usually secondhand items or new rejected items from factory/retails, in Malaysia we called it "bundle". The quality is still good so if you don't mind wearing secondhad item you can try buying it. My husband usually buy pants for his work at these "bundle" (he do labour work painting signboards and stuffs) so it's cheaper to buy this kind of attire and not too fancy that you easily retire it from using once it goes too bad 😂🎉
Congrats on going to the Setia Alam Pasar Malam! Good choice with the Stinky Tofu too! There's alot of wonderful food gems there. Before pandemic, "Walk and Eat" was more common, plus there were more tables and chairs so people could eat there... but since pandemic, there's not much stalls with tables anymore and most ppl just tapau home to eat :) Thanks for sharing your experience there with us!
Oh, you've missed out the 'Tapioca Kueh' (customer point on the yellow burned kueh), should try that, ...very difficult to find this type of kueh nowadays because it takes time to make it. If you noticed that most of the Chinese style kueh and desserts are not so sweet (lite taste). You are about to discover that in Malaysia, different Ethnic have different ways of cooking (especially on the ingredients part) and its tastes expectation towards even it is just a one named dish, for example 'Curry Chicken' or 'Seri Muka'. This is one of the uniqueness of Malaysia.
Just for your info, Malay people..is type of people that eat only sitting...you might find one or two eating while walking (especially eating ice cream) but very rare....this is manners, islamic religion taught us so...
thank you for showing this place i havent been back in years i always come here for night market i love the food i mainly go for food and sometimes pick up random knick knacks but its many years. I prefer Kueh Talam over seri muka personal preference i like the smooth texture more than the rice
You can try Chinese kuih (in cantonese is 茶粿 / Cha Guo) which usually made by Hakka people. It is very different from Malay kuih. Pasar malam very similar to Japan 祭り屋台 =)
Hi, loves your videos.... Simple yet down to earth.... You are a great inspiration... Am starting my own & hope to be as successful as you... Take Care...
Went to this pasar malam sometimes, and I live in Putrajaya lol. And yes buy and eat on the side, you both learning the way already XD. There's this one time me and friends bought durian there and eat at mamak and eat it with roti canai, tosai, and naan. And surprisingly goes well with all rotis there.
Ichang & Jimmy I love tis video v much so happy seeing both of u enjoying pasar malam food.. I didn’t visit pasar malam for umpteen yrs & ur video urged me to go soon & hunt down d stinky tofu which I nvr try b4 also. Thxs.. btw, both of u look more relax in this video. Don’t worry ya Malaysian still love u2 even u2 update us with daily activities without travel. Enjoy & be urself.
Tqvm to both for sharing yr most enjoyable times at Pasar Malam. Just a liitle advice to Jimmy. It would be better if you carry yr bag infront to avoid pick pocket. Take note next times 👍🏻🫰🏻✌🏻
I was about to say - where would the best place be to get a "picnic mat"? 😁 A Pasar Malam, of course... 2:03 - a lot of the clothes are used, and a lot of it comes from Japan in "bundles". There are a lot of "bundle" shops in KL, sometimes you find some expensive designer clothes in bundles, and there are people who have businesses looking for and selling expensive used clothes from Japan and Korea online, some of their customers are in the US and Europe. Eating and walking - I think it's simply too inconvenient with a lot of pasar malam foods. I can't imagine walking around and eating yong tau foo or nasi lemak.. Most people buy and eat at home. And there's usually no designated sitting area. 11:17 - how long ago was this video shot? Mangoes were still 3 kg for RM10 - must have been at least 3 weeks ago, mango prices have gone up since then, and a lot fewer mangos too.. They're more like RM5-6 a kilo now. 13:48 - that really IS big sotong! 😁 Foot long tentacles. 15:01 - I'm amazed at how much Jimmy can get into his mouth at one time.. 😂 24:44 - is that how one spells "corn dog"? 😁 I think these are actually "cheese dogs" since there's no hot dog in the middle. There is quite a bit of it in Tokyo, I saw it on John Daub's channel 2-3 years ago. They usually don't put chili sauce and mayonnaise all over it though... 31:42 - Ayam Goreng Meletup - Exploding Fried Chicken.. 😂
Some of those bundle clothes are not even used clothes, but rejected clothes from the production due to some defect(s). And some of the defects are not even noticeable.
Hi iChang & Jimmy, in relation to your observation that not many people were eating while walking, we Muslims are discouraged to do so as it is against the sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). I am not saying that this is the only reason though. Just wanna share this information.
Very dangerous to eat and walk with skewered food!😅 For Muslims, it is very much encouraged to be seated while eating as it is the way of the prophet, but it is not a sin to do so. But generally, only certain food are suitable for eating and walking in pasar malam situation and most people prefer to eat in peace, away from the bustling paths of the vendors as to not block the path or causing any unwanted accidents . After eating, can continue finding more food lahh 😂 then repeat the same. By the way, you can call the kids 'Adik' which means little or younger brother/sister in malay language. I personally like this kind of chill along kind of content compared to super edited youtuber type content. But both have their own charm.
Hi jimmy and ichang! You guys should go to pasar pagi temerloh pahang. I think you’d be amazed ! Known to be as one of the of the longest pasar pagi in malaysia. ☺️
The clothing shop you guys just passed.. We call it bundle in malaysia.. Sort of pre owned @ preloved clothing.. But you can get pretty nice stuff if you look for it...
The siu mai has a few types in that mix, perhaps can ask the vendor whats in each, some are pure pork, some may have prawns, salted egg yolk, century egg and others.
Just come back from Melaka for a short weekend trip....we take away asam pedas for dinner later from your favourite restaurant....it will be our first time trying😁
there are some people love eating while walking down the pasar malam. for those who don't, maybe they want to bring back home or eat somewhere else. for us as Muslim, it's not recommended (makruh) but indeed a manner. but, its okay if u want to eat while walking around, no one gonna put an eye on you both.
Night market (pasar malam). When I was a kid back in 90's, that's how we go for finding something. Especially for kids, always aiming for toys.😂 I remembered I'm crying hard to get my first Tamiya "dash yonkuro" (popular toys for 90's kid, mostly for boys) double A battery car toys. And yeah, I'm close to my belated dad. Two weeks later, my belated dad buy it for me because I has a good grade in elementary school exam. When in 98' or 99', digimon toys appears. That time im 11 or 12 years old. I'm saving my school day money for two months just to get "digimon game toys". that time digimon 02 is mostly top anime to watch. I don't forget "beyblade" spinning top toys. Now my age is 34 years old. Born in 1989. Ahhh.... when I see nowadays pasar malam, is totally different from old days pasar malam. I'll missed so much the old days pasar malam. "Such a great memory who remembered it".
If you plan to do video content on Malaysia Merdeka Parade. Can try browse other youtube videos for some idea of how it looks like. "Crowded" and must come early. But you guys should grab this opportunity to experience it while staying in Malaysia. Please take note that the venue might change from previous years.
You must visit Pasar Malam Connaught in Cheras with an empty stomach. There is a huge variety of good food too. Clothings, Dry goods and perishables are also available.
When u go to that donut stall,it remind me of Dorayaki that i used to buy in recent bazaar. Iam still remember the stall owner put a banner that writes " Dorayaki...Doraemon Favourite"❤
Generally, there are 2 human traffic lanes with 3 stalls lineup, so you just walk one lane and make a U-turn at the end and walk the other lane. Smaller Pasar Malam has just one human traffic lane, with Stalls on both and generally ppl walk one side, forming a two-way human traffic. It’s hard to really explain, but if u observe, u’ll see some system amidst the chaos. You can eat as you walk, but generally u may not want ppl bumping into u when u r eating and didn’t notice them. So most ppl prefer to stand at the stall or somewhere nearby to eat at Pasar Malam.
Jimmy, the 'SOP' for our pasar malam is when you want to buy something, get it immediately, so that you don't have to search again coming back.. That's why nasi Ayam gone.. 😂😂😂🎉
I think they already got the message 😂
Indeed
Truth 😂
#1 rule!
But my rule is walk first and think what to buy(only can apply at not crowded pasar malam ah)😂😂

My parents, teachers taught me, no eating or drinking while walking. I think it is an etiquette.
In Muslim’s way of life, eating and drinking must be done with proper seating. A big no to do it while walking. It’s etiquette and good manner.

You can try Chinese kuih (in cantonese is 茶粿 / Cha Guo) which usually made by Hakka people. It is very different from Malay kuih.

You can walk and eat but it's crowded on the walking street, so normally we like finding a spot to stand and enjoy it slowly.
