  • The Lord reveals to Lehi that his sons should return to Jerusalem and enlist Ishmael's family in their journey so that those sons could marry Ishmael's daughters and have families. Ishmael's family consents to join them. Along the way, disagreements break out, and Laman and Lemuel lead a rebellion. They bind Nephi and leave him for wild animals to devour him, but Nephi is miraculously released. Laman and Lemuel repent, and the company completes their journey to join with Lehi and Sariah.
    Based on 1 Nephi 7.

    I like how this shows that Laman and Lemuel had moments of pure, sincere repentance and desire to do good. Their main downfall was not enduring to the end. They never truly learned from their mistakes or fully put off the natural man.

      Yes. I like how a lot of people emphasize that the only time they didn’t complain when traveling back and forth between the valley of Lemuel and jerusalem was when they were going to get wives😂. They definitely showed that here. They were talking joyfully in this, which I really liked.

    There is a profound lesson that most people are unaware of regarding this sequence of events. The Lord commanded Lehi to take his family into the wilderness. He then commanded the boys to go back and get the brass plates. Then he commanded them to go back and get Ishmael‘s family so that they get wives to raise children.
    Remember, the Book of Mormon was written for us in our day. This sequence shows an important order in regards to our individual salvation. Our relationship to God comes first. We have to do what he says first. Our families are second. There is an order to all things.
    While it may seem harsh, even if our family decides to follow some other way, we are to follow what we know is right.
    If they had gotten Ishmael's family on the same trip as the one when they got the brass plates there would not have been this distinct order shown and it would have resulted in confusion regarding this issue.
    Now it is clear and there are many people today that need to follow this example and set their houses in order. Too many are allowing themselves to be found outside of the church because their families have left for a variety of reasons and they decided to remain with them instead of stick with the mainstream of the church.

      I myself thinking the same thing as far as this is for our day and these things are to help us grow and understand the gospel. I thought when reading about all these accounts, wow! what a tough life and journey, when all in all I believe most of us here on earth today have it just as bad or if not, worst...

      Kelly Smith You could even take the lesson to be that those who are young and/or single need to set themselves firmly in the gospel first before going out to find their spouse. To do so otherwise would put them on a shaky foundation.

    I love how this depicts them as real people with real emotions and reactions and different personalities. They're not just words on a page; they were real people. They struggled, they argued, they prayed, they got blisters on their feet from walking.
    As a side note, the actor who plays Nephi is quite handsome. :)

    The acting is sooo good! I keep rewatching Nephi telling his brothers what’s up! Such conviction! I love how they are bringing these stories to life! I also love the way that Laman and Lemuel aren’t total losers, but sometimes are obedient and nice. Makes it even more real and even more sad. People aren’t just black and white when it comes to the influence of the Lord. ❤️

    This one made me cry. I couldn't believe it. It happened in this video the way that I have imagined it all these years in my heart. I love the way that the videos make Laman and Lemuel real as they are and not a caricature of evil as I have caught as hints from so many. I understand what they were feeling. I love Nephi and the actor did such a great job capturing his humility. It made me cry. Jesus taught that the gospel can divide families. How hard is it that Lehi and his family went through this hard trial? It would be hard for anyone who had to go through what they went through.
    Would I be Nephi? I don't know. I hope I would. Laman and Lemuel were angry, but they loved their family.

    One thought came to my mind, a analogy. We sit in Sacramental, smile and feel happy about the Gospel( like Lemuel speaking about a family and a wife). Even feeling that we sin after, sometimes so fast( like binding Nephi). The most important word here is "Remember". If we don't put effort in remember the things that we know and had experienced, we will always coming back to the same mistakes.

    At times I have felt all alone trying to help my family on the right path. This story is relatable to us in our day more than before. Our families are constantly targeted by the adversary every Day. To see Nephi’s face in the sand and dirt with his body bound by ropes, he didn’t complain, but prayed by Faith. How many times when we fall to the ground or our pushed do we pray in faith?

    • @allychristiansen
      @allychristiansen 4 года назад +1

      I agree, that was such a powerful moment. When I'm reading it's hard to visualize Nephi as a normal person with weakness, and that came through so clearly in this clip.

    • @shotsfired1106
      @shotsfired1106 5 лет назад +8

      I agree. I was wondering how they were going to do that part while it was leading in. I was imagining that he would tug and burst throught the rope. I like how they just loosened gradually and it was not an explosion of a miracle. It reminded me that miracles happen all the time in the smallest ways and that we have to be prepared to listen and recognize the most subtle of miracles.

    • @kiramortwilson7411
      @kiramortwilson7411 5 лет назад +2

      It was an interesting twist. Basically, the ropes were just poorly tied. Makes sense; they tied him in a hurry and were angry. But he couldn't get out unless he was calm enough to intelligently maneuver free. His prayers didn't set him free so much as they calmed him enough to do so himself. Faith conquers fear, and fear keeps us trapped. It's a great parallel.

    • @coltontocson4629
      @coltontocson4629 5 лет назад

      I always pictured Nephi as hulking his way through the rope. I really liked this portrayal too. Another possible way that the Lord could answer the prayers.

    • @audriabuchanan244
      @audriabuchanan244 8 месяцев назад

      There is a great lesson here in how Nephi was released from his bonds. He prayed in faith for strength to 'burst' his bonds. Instead, his bonds were loosed. When we pray in faith for a blessing from God, we often want it in our way. Instead, He blesses us in His way. We must also accept that the blessing comes in His timing.

    I never cried reading this story in the Book of Mormon, yet I know the book is true.
    I also cried watching Nephi, Laman, and their brothers embrace. They really did an shaving job capturing these stories and the emotion. Very well done.

    Something I like about these is that it shows what I thought about Laman and Lemuel for a long time. It never really portrayed them as evil people in the Book of Mormon, just confused. These videos do a good job at showing that they were good people, that it just takes them longer to understand. I can't wait to see how this plays out when they become the Lamanites and what they will do for that part

    In this video we see how Laman and Lemuel got more discouraged because the other people were also complaining. This makes me think that it is important that we surround ourselves with uplifting people and avoid being in toxic relationships that might pull us down.
    Also, I love how reading the comments section and commenting is like being in a Come, Follow Me lesson

    The book of Mormon videos shows so much the strength of some people and sobering emotions that can do overtake other people at the time of trails. These other people simply do not have the staying power of following what the Lord wants and need from us. The book of Mormon videos shows and teaches not only what most of us need to learn in this life but that trails are the strengthening power that LEDs us to Jesus Christ. Not just the easy way of life Lemuel and Laman had, which was created in Jerusalem for them by their father. Wealth and ease can cancer the soul into a false life were no trails seem to touch them. The children turn deaf ears to prayers and teaching of these wealthy parents. They see and feel only want what ease plus wealth can provide for them nothing else. Ease and Wealth are the cause of so much heartache because seems to strip away life lessons and destroy the individual with false ideas of how life should be lived. Trails in this life teaches us so much about strength and enduring to the end of our lives.

    Leaving jeruselum: complaining the whole time
    Going to get the plates: complaining the whole time
    Going back to get wives: I WILL GO AND DO THE THINGS WHICH THE LORD COMMANDS!!
    ...and also mentions that they saw an angel, but not the reason why the angel came

    it's really great, the only critique i have of the lines is you can tell the switch between scriptural language and ordinary language. tough job though trying to write scriptural language. but thanks for this episode, my knees hurt too when Nephi was dragged on his knees lol

    • @joshualabajo1474
      @joshualabajo1474 5 лет назад +2

      I think the scriptural language only causes discomfort at the beginning but once you realise that the lines chosen to remain as they are in scripture are lines that teach gospel principles and doctrine, then you'll get used to it. On the other hand, I love how they added certain lines that you would imagine to have been said in the narrative of the accounts, rather than opting for no extra addition other than that found in scripture.

    • @scottd.labrum7793
      @scottd.labrum7793 5 лет назад +1

      There's got to be a way to quote scriptural text and not have it sound like scriptural text. I understand, these accounts have been given to US from their experiences as a warning to what can happen. Both from their righteous acts, and the consequences of their misbehaviour.

    3:39
    If anybody's ever sat in a situation similar to this... as an emissary of the Lord, eating dinner and teaching doctrine to a collective family, and then extending a commitment: only the commitment isn't to be baptized or demonstrate obedience to a certain principle, but rather to take their whole family and depart into the wilderness. Ishmael must have been a man of tremendous faith: a golden individual indeed.

    Very well done. I cried as they bound and beat Nephi. I've read it countless times, and was not pleased with how they treated him, but this makes it even more real actual tears. Grateful they apologized and Nephi forgave them. The actor of Laman really does portray him well. They all do really. But I think Laman and Lemuel can be the most misunderstood at times.

    Around 6:40 - 6:51, Nephi is TRULY standing for truth and righteousness here... he said something that he needs to set an example to his oldest brother, Laman. Then Laman's reaction is similar to what every reluctant older person would say to a young missionary when they are about to reject what he/she heard... "How old are you? 18? 19? What do you know?!" ...or "How dare you talk to me like that?"
    But God is no respecter of persons... no wonder the missionary age got lowered so that He can show His power among the "least of the brethren."
