  • Jacob, a Book of Mormon prophet, warns his people to stop being prideful and persecuting their brethren. He teaches his people to seek first the kingdom of God and calls the men of his people to repentance for seeking additional wives and concubines. Because of their behavior, the men had broken the hearts of their wives and lost the confidence of their children.
    Based on Jacob 2-3.

    I like it that the rebuked man looks at Jacob and Jacob looks back without any condemnation. Too often, those with righteous intentions miss the mark by failing to show love along with the correction they give. Jacob speaks very clearly and directly here about right and wrong, but he also speaks with love. We need more of that combination.

      Jacob, my son, wants me to add my own comment, too. Here goes: Growing up outside the Church of Jesus Christ, I found that so-called God-fearing men treated their wives with harshness, even justifying their actions with misunderstood and out-of-context scriptures. In the words of the Savior through one of His prophets, "So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself" (Ephesians 5:28). Pornography is a lie. Satan wants us to believe that self-gratification leads to happiness. True joy comes in loving, not lusting. Repentance opens our hearts to true joy. Staying true to our wives and children leads to the greatest and most lasting happiness of all.

      I find your comment about Bessemer interesting but not compelling in the sense of disproving the Book of Mormon.
      But let's say such facts are important. What of the making of steel in 400 BC, in India? Is that fact obliterated by Bessemer's process 22 centuries later? Of course not.
      Do you or I know everything that happened in the Americas in 580 BC? Of course not.
      In order for us to accept your argument we have to take it on faith, just as you have in raising it.

      @00Fisher00 4 года назад +1

      @@chriskokesh6637 God is the one who draws the lines because He knows what will bring us the greatest eternal peace and happiness. I'm under obligation to obey the law of chastity, too. Like literally everyone else in the world, I experience desires to do things that are not good. There are many things I could do that I don't because I know God is wise and loving and that in His wisdom He doesn't want me to do those things. That being said, I recognize that the challenges I face are different from the challenges of someone who is attracted to other people of the same sex. You could say it's unfair, and it is. Life wasn't intended to be fair in every respect. Each of us faces trials that many other people don't experience, and sometimes they're severe.
      I remember an old friend that my wife knew and was at one time employed to assist in daily life; this man suffers from a condition that causes his bones to ossify over time, particularly when he is bruised. Even at a relatively early age he had lost most mobility in his spine, limbs, and digits; he was usually in a reclined wheelchair. This man is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and he believes in pursuing eternal marriage through God's covenants. However, even though he wants love and close companionship and marriage, along with all of the experiences that come along with it, he will almost assuredly not have those blessings in this life, for the simple difficulty of finding someone who would choose him as their husband. He is incapable of providing a living for a family, doubtless incapable of doing the man's part in creating children, and also somewhat physically unattractive because of his condition. He can't provide the experiences for a wife that other men can. So for as much as he would love the companionship of a wife, he has to expect that he will not find a woman to marry during his mortal life. It's not a matter of choice for him. And yet there are other matters of choice for him. Within his abilities he still makes choices to follow God's will.
      Is God cruel to have allowed someone to be born with that kind of condition? Is God cruel to have allowed people to be born in North Korea where they live without the liberty we enjoy in the United States and other parts of the world? Is God cruel to have allowed people to be born in remote African villages during many centuries in which Christianity was barely known across the entire continent? Given God's perspective, we could easily say that no, He is not cruel for allowing these things in His Plan of Happiness. Without God's perspective, that may be harder to see for some people.
      Even without His infinite perspective, though, we can receive answers from Him. What do I expect for someone who is truly faithful and making earnest efforts to do God's will but finds that they face a challenge? I expect that we will ask Him, and that He will answer them by letting them know that they should indeed follow the counsel of His prophets. I expect that we will sometimes tell Him, "But Father, this is so very, very hard." And in turn He will tell us, "I know. But I am with you." And for the truly faithful, we will receive enough from Him to carry and and still find great joy in life even if we have to wait for some blessings. This doesn't apply to just things like homosexuality, though of course some struggles are certainly more difficult than others.
      Of course, whether the concern is related to chastity or anything else, I also expect some people to choose differently than following God's will. What are the consequences of that? Of course, they're specific to whatever the commandment is that we choose to ignore, but generally we will simply be deprived of something good that God desires of us. This happens often, inspiring such words of lament from the Lord as, "how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!" (Mathew 23:37) We are free to find those consequences for ourselves. But in all cases it is better for us to seek God's will and then follow it.

    My heart goes out to Jacob and the things he went through; his older brothers were especially harsh on him. All he knew was “life on the road” and saw the effects of how very difficult family contentions affected his parents. But as difficult as it was, he became a better man because of it and his words convey authority from the Lord. It’s not included in this video (maybe another one?) but my favorite phrase from him is his unique perspective, “Our lives passed away like as it were unto us a dream, we being a lonesome and a solemn people, wanderers, cast out from Jerusalem, born in tribulation, in a wilderness, and hated of our brethren, which caused wars and contentions; wherefore, we did mourn out our days."

It turns out that the couple was not married. Repeat visits to the apartment were met with a closed door. The missionaries knew someone was home, but no answer.
    A couple of weeks later, DJ and his companion were walking down the street, when they heard someone yelling, and they turned to see a woman running towards them, waving both arms. While serving a mission in Japan, we taught a couple that wasn't married, but that had a 3 year old child. They had not been married because the father of the daughter refused to approve the marriage. They came to church fairly regularly. Sadly, some of the members judged them, and they felt awkward returning. Pretty sure Jacob would have greeted them kindly had he been there.
      They were planning, eventually, of getting married, and said they would like to one day become members. I was transferred out of the area and returned home before that happened, but I always felt stung by how some of the members treated our investigators.
      “We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.”
      As members, we need to show more love and respect for people who do not have the same beliefs and morals that we do. Many, many people are doing the best they can with the knowledge they have been given.

    I'm sorry to leave this comment here, but I don't know where else to do it. I think it would be SO helpful to people that want to watch the Book of Mormon Videos - to have a small NUMBER on each one so watchers would know that they are watching in chronological order (if that's what they want to do). I started watching a few months ago and after a while I was lost in trying to find what I'd missed. I do know the order of the books, which helps me, but I know a lot of people that may take a look at these beautiful videos, may not know what order to look for. Could this be done - even going back to put some more organization into the process of watching the videos in order? Thanks for these insightful and spiritual teachings from the Book of Mormon. I have loved seeing the four original brothers showing love and playing like brothers usually do. It opened my eyes to the reality of these stories. Thank you.

      All of the videos are included in a playlist, and new ones are added sequentially.

    • @decyrano
      @decyrano 4 года назад +3

      After checking the Channel listings, I find no parent playlist of all videos, though the option exists in all RUclips channels to order by date added. You Could make your own playlist, adding the videos in proper order, then sharing it, so others can benefit from your diligence.

    • @freebrownies

      Thanks for the comment. RUclips sequencing has some quirks. But there is an episodes playlist containing the episodes in order. Each episode also has a Playlist beginning with the episode itself followed by the shorter segments, if any, pertaining to that episode, also in order. There will soon be a Playlist of all episode playlists in order, which may also help those less familiar with the scripture references. One reason we haven't relied on numbering is that some things will be published out of sequence. For example, in 2021 we plan to publish an episode depicting parts of Nephi's vision (1 Nephi 10-15). Its not finished because it will contain scenes that haven't been filmed yet. This will end up being the 5th episode of the whole series, and it could be confusing at this stage if we skipped from 4 to 6 (if numbering based on final sequence, which isnt actually set in stone yet), or later if we came back later and changed numbering. We also plan to publish other content out of chronological order, based on when filmed or when ready for publication. Hope that explains a little why the videos aren't simply numbered. 😊

    • @thohangst
      @thohangst 4 года назад

      It is confusing. It takes me a minute or two to find just the full videos and not the segments. It's largely a shortcoming of RUclips that a numbering convention should be considered. Not a bad idea at all.

    Wow, the handicapped man seemed like an outsider, but Jacob instantly invited him in a way that showed he truly is a literal brother to everyone there. Powerful. We should never alienate our brothers and sisters who suffer from hidden handicaps, including addictions, and even pride. Makes me cry to think that those who need our love and acceptance the most are sometimes shoved further into the cold.

    Prophets of ancient times and prophets past and present have and will always speak words of wisdom that are truthful and out spoken and sometimes bold, yet they do so with sincerity and with a contrite spirit...the words they speak and express are full of meaning and with a purpose, teaching the people to awake from their slumber's of death that awaits them if they do not repent of their wicked and abominable ways...comitting adultery against their wives and those who they deem to be less unfavorable in their eyes because of their differences in appearance and stature...Jacob was one of those great prophets who taught with compassion...he loved his people so much that he only wanted what was best for them, their souls were especially important and i felt that his words to consolidate and strengthen his people was a genniune concern for them, knowing what he saw and witnessed amongst them...A great prophet.

    The man who would not let the other sit next to him is a mentality going on in our church. There's a great division among us and we are not united in the real teachings of the savior. Jacob says we error because we don't understand the scriptures, we seek after the flesh.
    It's so true!. We seek after the flesh calling it "inspired by God" without even considering the nature of God, his mighty, infinite power over man.

    I have a question directed at all Christians but especially toward the LDS; why do prophets have the luxury of witnessing the miraculous and supernatural, and everyone else must believe their declarations based on faith? In other words why did Moroni talk to Joseph Smith but not to me and yet I ought to believe his messengers saying it happened?

    • @jordanwutkee2548
      @jordanwutkee2548 4 года назад +5

      William S. Great question. I don’t know the answer, but I do think that God knows who’s in the right place and has the right talents to be His spokesperson at a given time. But the best part is that you *don’t* just have to believe them. You can choose to find out the truth for yourself. You can get your own revelation on the matter. The prophets plead with us to believe and keep the commandments because of what they know, but no reasonable person, including God himself, expects you to do it blindly. You can pray about it, you can experiment with it and see if repentance and worship don’t make your life better, and you can get your own undeniable confirmation of the truth of it all directly from God. I mean, that’s why I’m here as a believer. I have my answer. I know it’s real, but my answer isn’t necessarily going to be the answer you need. You need your own. If you want it, you’ll get it.
