There are also 2 types of woven or non-roll elastic but over time the ribbed one wears out. The other type of woven elastic looks like it has squares in it. I like this elastic but have not tried using it for scrunchies and it doesn’t wear out over time. I have tried using braided and knit elastic in scrunchies and I prefer the knit one because it gives a better grip on your hair. I like the 1/2 inch knit elastic for scrunchies. The braided elastic is too stretchy for scrunchies but that is just my opinion. I’d like to try the 1/2 inch woven elastic with squares in it for scrunchies next. A successful scrunchies maker uses 3/4 inch ribbed woven/non-roll elastic in her scrunchies and calls it “wide” elastic. One day all those scrunchies she has made and sold won’t have any more stretch in them.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge of elastic with me. I agree braided elastic is stretchy. I've had to use braided elastic and had to adjust the length that I have to cut it to make it work.

What about the elastic cord ? Is this an option? I found 1/8” cord elastic and it seems sturdy with great strength ability. However I’m super new to scrunchies

Are there any elastics (or companies) you recommend for srunchie elastics?

      Hello,
I don't have any companies to recommend. I buy big spools from a local fabric store in Georgia.

You're really informative, but every minute I wanted to quite the video because of the constant music in the background.

I know the music is loud and a bit annoying my apologies. This was one of my first videos I made when starting my channel. 🥰

Which is the best and most stretchy? I think I have knit 1/4 elastic but I feel like there’s not a lot of stretch

I personally like to use knit elastic beacuse I like the stretch better. What I would suggest to you is to buy different types of elastic and see which stretch you like best. There are different types of braided elastic too. I have noticed when purchasing elastic different brands of elastic may have variations in their stretching.
I suggest doing a stretch test, where you buy different elastics that are the same width. Cut all of the elastic to the same length and do a stretch test to see which is more stretchier. Also, you want to make sure whatever elastic you use when it contracts back down it needs to still maintain its shape. When you find an elastic you like try to stick with that particular brand.
I will try to post a video of a stretch test so that you can see the difference. I hope this helps.

ive gone through so much elastic trying to find the best kind. knit seems to give the best stretch. also the smaller the width the more stretch there is, in either braided or knitted.
of course thats my opinion but i hope it helped.

I made one with the string elastic I guess it just looks like a rounded shoelace sort of they use it on the little mug warmers that goes on your coffee cups like to pull the string and put it around coffee cups but it doesn't seem to stretch and should your elastic be long enough to twist around your hand or a ponytail twice or just once?

Hello, I use 30 and 50 depending on what material I am using I use a local store here in Georgia. You can get the thread from a local craft store like Hobby Lobby or JoAnn's.

You've gotta turn down the background music and choose a less bombastic track, it gets in the way of what you're saying.
You didn't say why you'd use each elastic for scrunchies. What's the effect if I use a wide braided over a thin knitted?

    • @OMGScrunchieClubCo
      @OMGScrunchieClubCo  Год назад +1

Sorry the music is so loud this was when I first started my YT channel and I was still trying to figure this thing out. I may try to redo the video in the future.
In the video I stated I like to use the knit elastic (if I'm not mistaken). the scrunchie will still look the same if you use a wide braided over the thin knitted. The braided elastic will not keep its shape as the knitted elastic does when it's stretched. If I can 't find knitted elastic I do substitute if for the braided.
