I receive so many nice messages and I can only tell you guys: Thanks for watching and supporting Autogefuehl ! Without you this all would not have been possible at all. Many thanks to you! :)
+Autogefühl thank you so much for sharing this worth watching and worth listening speech. The presentation was excellent and you really enriched our knowledge further more by all the stories and explanations you provided through your wonderful speech. We further thank you so much for time and effort to have this press material prepared and presented in such a way. I also shared it with my friends in order to give them some summary for what is going on within automobile industry.
+Autogefühl Good lecture, although you're wrong about the animal argument. It obviously is important that the animal is killed anyway, because the leather would otherwise go to waste. If you have a problem with slaughtering animals, then you should have a problem with them being killed in the first place, not about what happens once they're dead.
Not necessarily. It's a mutually sustaining circle. By making it less profitable for corporations to kill cows at such a scale, you are taking away incentive. I like to eat meat myself, but I do recognize that the industry - especially cow-focused one - has a huge environmental footprint.
Well, one thing is for sure... this really IS the #1 community to discuss cars! I so rarely see such enthusiastic participation in the comment section. In a subject that is so often quite polarizing and divisive, you seem to bring out the best in us! Passion is contagious that way, I suppose! ;) I'd argue that Autogefühl has one of the greatest influences in the automotive industry, its consumers, and enthusiasts! I know that if you review a car, it will be the greatest amount of information next to sitting in that vehicle myself! Always a pleasure to watch and listen to, as well! Thanks for all you do, I'm happy to be part of the community!
You are a game changer, Thomas. Kudos for an excelent speach and a strong and sensible future approach, not only in the automotive industry, but in a broader scale. All the best and keep up the good work.
+Péter Sági Since when are you watching us? For us it is already unbelieveable as we reached 50k subs and now there are more than 90k. It's amazing. Thank you guys!
I really enjoy your "no nonsense" approach to journalism. It's very difficult to find reviews on RUclips that are straight forward and without any gimmicks.
After watching this video a second time, I can only say that I wish my lectures in college were this interesting. Very well done Thomas ! Your presentation was not only fascinating, but very well organized and delivered. You continue to impress ! Congratulations !
Thomas, I'm glad you brought up seat materials. Sometimes I think I'm the only one alive (at least in the U.S.) who prefers alcantara seat inserts and fake leather bolsters (I've had two cars with that set up), to leather. And it's not even close. Cooler in summer, warmer in winter, more comfortable, lasts forever, your cabin doesn't smell like a tannery, and no angry animal ghosts haunting you for using their skin. I hope they continue to become more popular and more widely available.
Your videos deserve so many more views & likes! Any undergraduate student looking to work in the automotive industry should be watching this lecture, great insights.
Very interesting lecture, you're a great speaker man. A lot of good info. I may have lost an hour and a half of sleep, but it was worth it last night, but it was worth it.
Would have loved to be there live. I'll admit I haven't watched this whole thing yet, but I'm sure it'll cheer me up. Liverpool just lost the europa league and I'm absolutely crushed. Keep up the good work, Thomas!
It's really good to see your shows, informative and easy to appreciate. This is the best, to me, especially now that the world has to think of sustainability and the future.
Brilliant speech Thomas - I'm a Brit but have always bought German cars, Golf GTI 8v, Golf GTI 16v (Big bumper) Golf V5 170, Audi S4 B8.5 Avant Black Edition - I must admit the new Jags are tempting and who knows - maybe I can afford an Aston Martin one day. Keep up the great work.
Great speech, Thomas. Really interesting to hear your thoughts on the automotive industry. It is obvious you have a great knowledge and understanding of the car business and it's products. I think we will see some of the greatest changes in the industry over the next couple of decades. I bought one of the last naturally aspirated flat 6 Cayman's recently, as I realised it was a case of now or never. This could well turn out to be a keeper. Hopefully it won't have been banned from our roads in 20 years time, as I would love to keep driving what will by then be my 'old timer', with a smile on my face, whilst listening to the howl of that engine. So sad that engines like these are having to be consigned to the scrap heap due to ever tightening emissions regulations.
MB Tex with french stitch (double row exposed stitching) is offered in N. America with the MY17 E Class 400 kombi,, luxury model trim. Who needs leather . . . .
not sure how i missed this video. its perhaps one of the most important on your channel. well done thomas. 3:44 audi saying no combustion engines from 2025. i agree, if it doesnt happen even sooner. tesla are really pushing here for change. 9:00 absolutely, german cars have polish, something that the japanese and also korean and american manufacturers are lacking. a delicate formula at 1:31:00. there are still die hards that will never consider an ev. fortunately though these folks are in their later years, so its probably a moot point. people of our generation and younger will relentlessly push this and force governments and manufacturers to change, or they will simply be left behind. alot of manufacturers could learn a little from tesla, they listen to their customers and are paving the way forward. they are not perfect, they dont build the worlds best car, but for such a young company they are doing alot of things right.
Hi Thomas - now I see why you are talking about animal skin all the time. Nice to hear your perspectives on this and a wide range of issues. You are the man!
2 years have passed since you first published this on YT. However i have only JUST watched it 2018. Two years have passed and your identified trends are now much further ahead, Countries now banning the use of diesel and petrol in favour of electric for instance. I am lucky to have in true YT fashion 'stumbled' over your lecture. Thank you for leaving it long enough online. I have shared it with my fb people. I think what you had to say is pertinent and important for all of us to consider. Even here in New Zealand.
I love the part where you speak about animal abuse! Thanks for your work in raising the awareness of this subject! You were right that 5 years from when you spoke car manufacturers are now offering animals skin free versions, but the progress could have been faster!
Thanks Thomas or Tack så mycket for the lecture/speech. The part about autonomous driving was very interesting for me as I work as a salesman for a Volvo Dealer.
Thank you for educating your visitors about leather! A lot of people are ignorant and do not understand or want to even understand how reality works. Are you vegan/vegetarian yourself Thomas? You are doing an AMAZING job and it makes me happy to see professionals like you also being realistic and also educating in animal cruelty. Would love to listen to you live in Köln! Love the city, my girlfriend lives there and I'm stuck in Sweden!
Very good speech Thomas! I enjoyed the whole video and didnt fall asleep even though it is quite late in Germany, as you know :P So you did a great job at mixing entertaining elements and reasoned information.
+Autogefühl - this was a fascinating presentation! So many topics covered, including many that have been in my mind such as a little talk about assisted braking/collission avoidance systems (which I asked about separately) and even whether or not our current cars will ever be completely obsolete because of changes in technology. I enjoyed this a lot and feel like I learned quite a lot too.
+thecitysurfer It depend most times yes but there can also be a week where I have meetings at many different places. Therefore, I am glad to have a team of five members who help me if I do not have the time or if I am actually exhausted so do not worry about me. Btw thanks for watching m8!
Thomas, this was an outstanding presentation on some very pertinent and interesting topics, especially covering Deutschland. Congrats and thanks for this! Cheers mate ~Frank
Very informative - i enjoy watching your videos and i appreciate nice cars but i know nothing about the automotive industry in general. Thanks for a lot of new insight. Keep up the great work!
I genuinely enjoyed this lecture! Very informative, and with some interesting side points of where the industry is progressing. It seems the future of electric cars is gaining real traction. It takes a company like Tesla to challenge the status quo for great things to happen.
I'll just add my 2 cents. I just wonder why car manufacturers don't add an option of a cloth seats with wentilation. In common sense it seems to be impossible to combine those two options, but for example (I've checked it) RECARO Ergomed has cloth with ventilation. Haveing them as an aftermarket parts is a bit expensive for me because I count both front seets to be changed, but it generally shows that it is possible. In my opinion car manufacturers just don't want to offer such a connection. Perhaps as you Tomas said: genuine leather is an expensive box to tick, but here totally unnecessary. I wish so much to see in an option list cloth seats with ventilation and heating. The place I am living differentiations in Celcius degrees through out the whole year looks this way: Winter - 20/-10 , Summer + 25/+35. So both systems are needed: Ventilation and heated the seats. And I just preffer high class cloth over leather materials in so many ways. That's all.
+Leon Swier yes of course we had that discussion. Would just have been irrelevant on video because there was only one microphone mounted on me - rest would not have been heard :)
If only journalists highlighted the piss poor reliability of German cars. The long term reliability of a car accounts for a lot when it comes to desirability and overall satisfaction. No doubt lexus would be right on top. BMW 520d driver.
Very interesting and brilliantly presented. One point - the developments are focused on the developed world - there will always be the perpetually developing countries with infrastructure challenges and in rural areas poor or absent connectivity. There will always be a place for the Tatas of the world and of course a Toyota Hilux. I cannot imagine autonomous driving working in the traffic of Jakarta where hordes of motorbikes share the roads and appear from nowhere to impact your vehicle. In Namibia there is a 240 km stretch of road with no fuel stop, no shops, nothing to support an electric vehicle. Completely agree with your point on leather interiors - aesthetically they deteriorate rapidly and I do t see the appeal anyway and I would guess that the new generation of car buyers don't see leather as a highly desirable option as do the aging board members of car companies. I would love to see you give a lecture on car design of the past 30 years and the way forward.
Very informative speech, Great Job! So true, that German cars has a good feel with handsome design. It would be good if German can improve in reliability and dependability like the Japanese car company Toyota. Subaru is not as good on durability(things starting to break after 100k miles) it happened to mine and my nephews Subaru. Toyota held up way better. My family and I have German cars sport cars and Luxury sedans but we use it for like a weekend cars. (Too fancy and costly for repair for daily use) Leather seats?! Actually I preferred the soft-Tex material from Toyota/Lexus. It is more durable and require no maintenance (conditioner not necessary) The most importantly, it wears much better than leather. More wrinkles resistance on the bolster of the seat. Love the soft-Tex. I had Mercedes MB TEX before but I preferred the Toyota/Lexus soft Tex now. It feels a bit softer and it feels pretty close to leather. My Buddy and I are car enthusiasts and admit we are pretty meticulous. We like the soft Tex. We feel that the Competitors are getting very close now to the German products. (The gap is getting very close).
Good Conference ! but i think that you would get more focus on the Hydrogen motoring and industrial process made specialy by Toyota and Honda so they are in mass production and mass market step witch is something completely new and by the way Leading. They are also in the train about autonomus driving. Good continuation Thomas.
Absolutely. Seems anachronistic, not to say barbaric that some manufacturers still use animal hides, and they need to take the lead on this. To be honest it's something that I've not really thought about, I suppose. It's this type of thoughtful insight that I appreciate in your reviews.
I also wanted to comment on a point you mentioned regarding cattle production and how they're contributing to deforestation, because it's basically not. Overeating is the reason cause if we stopped raising cattle and stopped eating meat completely( which wouldn't be healthy btw) for the sake of discussion then we'll shift to consuming plants and create the same if not worse problems.
+stilkus You should read more on this, e.g. check the official UN figures. Cattle production is without doubt one of the main causes of climate change and _the_ main cause of deforestation. More than 2/3 of all agricultural land is used to mass cattle production, so yes, stop raising cattle and stop eating meat would not solve all problems, but it would solve the most problems at once. Eating plants directly is the solution. Read more about this on www.adaptt.org
It's so good that at least someone is talking about not using genuine leather! When I say that I prefer artificial leather - people think I'm cheap :D You've mentioned that Mercedes is leading in this field, yet my dealer denied me an option to have steering wheel with artificial leather. Maybe he was just not informed well enough…
Maybe you can show your friends/partners this video in which we explain in detail the negative sides of real leather: ruclips.net/video/8f91KgbVbJQ/видео.html
3 things about autonomous driving cars: We are already overpopulated. Car accidents are one of the last "natural" methods to reduce population. Sounds extremely harsh, but is true. There is no ethical footage for autonomous driving. Technical it's already possible, no doubt. But morally it isn't. Imagine a scenario where a kid runs in front of the car (autonomous driving). There is no chance of braking enough to not hit it. Also, there is no space of evading the kid. There is a car coming towards you on the opposite lane and the walkway is to narrow and features a concrete wall, or cast steel poles for a fence. So no matter which direction the car will choose, one person will die. Who is going to be responsible for the death? On which base will the car decide who's going to die? Age? Financial background? Socila background? Overall health? Number of traffic violations done in the past? There is just no ethical footing and discussion that would allow autonomous driving right at the moment. And I don't see a satisfying solution in the near future either.Lat point: Why use a car to be autonousmly transported, when you already could use the bus, train, etc? It would be much better for the environment. And it would cost much less.
I can't believe that I watched the whole thing !! I have to comment on some points though, Germany is lagging way behind when it comes to hybrids, and by that I mean more than a decade. I remember driving my first hybrid somewhere in the year 2001,2002 and it was a prius with an amazing out of this world gearbox and full colour display. also the on-star system was copied from Fiats cause I've also seen something similar in a Fiat bravo 2005 with crash reporting systems. I think that Germany should up their game in the upcoming days because they lived on reputation for quite sometime now and people are noticing how bad they've become in the recent years with the #dieselgate#DSGgate#2.0TFSI/TDIgate ( piston rings and oil consumption issues ). Mercedes is fine though, they still try to compete honestly and they're leading unlike the other VW group cars.
It is possible that American automotive industry could win the future thanks to great American IT industry because now we need more and more IT technology inside new cars. That is something that Europe and Asia is lacking. That is why Tesla was created in America. Everybody can do electric cars, but not everybody can do proper IT technology inside electric car.
very interesting presentation, maybe the Apple car will change the way cars are made and powered, hopefully "killing" the leather option at the same time.

Thomas Majchrzak the eloquent knowledgeable speaker.
An added bonus: the emphasis on the importance of ethics and humane principles.
Well done.

Havent checked the full speech yet but im already very proud of our very own #1 host aka Thomas!
+ICcreepers haha thank you so much. It is so good to hear your positives responses. :)
Best, most professional car channel on YT. 100K subscribers soon, I'm so happy!

+Autogefühl Since 2014! I Think I was in the first 10K :)
+Péter Sági lovely !
Thanks for the message about leather seats Thomas, I just ordered a Lexus NX with faux leather instead of real leather.
+serge vivier Good choice
+autogefuhl microfiber may be hard to recycle and poison for oceans
It's was a pleasure to hear you got to talk about the use of real leather, so proud of that part! Thank you Thomas!
+Jaramos thx!
Very enjoyable video with some great topics. Might be my favorite Autogefuhl video thus far. Great job Thomas!
I really enjoy your "no nonsense" approach to journalism. It's very difficult to find reviews on RUclips that are straight forward and without any gimmicks.
cheers man, keep recommending us!

I like the leatherette in .y Cadillac ATS. it always looks new and never wrinkles.
That at such a great level! And I'm writing this 5 years after it was released! Had this video saved for later - still worth it!
Awesome!

I'm excited to see this was in English! Incorporating the videos was awesome. I didn't know you are a Vegan!

That's all.
Absolutely!
Very interesting. I gladly would have seen some discussion afterwards. However i am a bit wiser after this video. thanks.
+Leon Swier yes of course we had that discussion. Would just have been irrelevant on video because there was only one microphone mounted on me - rest would not have been heard :)
Thomas, are you from Polen?
no, but the name formerly is derived from there
If only journalists highlighted the piss poor reliability of German cars.
+HERBERT leitner yes good point. Will be different from city to rural
(Too fancy and costly for repair for daily use)
Leather seats?!
+Frank Kwok thanks for the feedback m8!
Good Conference ! but i think that you would get more focus on the Hydrogen motoring and industrial process made specialy by Toyota and Honda so they are in mass production and mass market step witch is something completely new and by the way Leading. They are also in the train about autonomus driving. Good continuation Thomas.
thanks for the feedback m8 !
Interesting to hear your comments on sustainability.
Do you share them?
Absolutely. Seems anachronistic, not to say barbaric that some manufacturers still use animal hides, and they need to take the lead on this. To be honest it's something that I've not really thought about, I suppose. It's this type of thoughtful insight that I appreciate in your reviews.
So well spoken... keep it up man!
thanks! There will be an update of the lecture soon :)
Great !
+Janis Bingler Thanks!
Soo inspiring nd motivational wth positive sides fr d future.. thank you soo much... great!! 🙂🙂
thanks for tuning in !!
Fantastisch!
He should visit the university of southern Denmark at the Odense campus!
Sure, feel free to invite - i love denmark :)
Very interesting but why in English at a German university?
+Danilo Drašković exactly, internatinonal audience, students coming to Germany from all over the world - and indeed you could also profit from that :)
I watched your presentation in full with my friend today on my TV. It was most informative. As for university, I've been twice!
It's so good that at least someone is talking about not using genuine leather! When I say that I prefer artificial leather - people think I'm cheap :D
You've mentioned that Mercedes is leading in this field, yet my dealer denied me an option to have steering wheel with artificial leather. Maybe he was just not informed well enough…
Maybe you can show your friends/partners this video in which we explain in detail the negative sides of real leather: ruclips.net/video/8f91KgbVbJQ/видео.html
In was für einem Studiengang hast Du diesen Vortrag gehalten? Wirklich gute Arbeit!
LG
Hi! Besten Dank! Das war an der WISO Fakultät für einen internationalen Kurs Automobilindustrie
sunday coffee and so good lecture. Dziekuje
+Marek Zelbert Dziekuje!
Thomas, do you speak Polish?
+mtumasz No, ancestors did, but got lost over the last generations
Interesting and good lectur. :)
you re welcome :) Join us for more of our reviews!
3 things about autonomous driving cars:
We are already overpopulated.
Der A8 wird doch in Neckarsulm gebaut und nicht in Ingolstadt.
+audifanrs6avant ja klar, dazu gibts von uns auch ein werksbesuch video, muss ich an der stelle falsch gesagt haben
Nice job, stay humble 👍🏽 🙂
thanks, keep supporting us !!
+stilkus yeah good point with the hybrids. They are coming now though ... but at this point, you already need the full ev
Super Vortrag! ;)
Danke!
It is possible that American automotive industry could win the future thanks to great American IT industry because now we need more and more IT technology inside new cars. That is something that Europe and Asia is lacking. That is why Tesla was created in America. Everybody can do electric cars, but not everybody can do proper IT technology inside electric car.
nice job !
+gorrie31 thx!
very interesting presentation, maybe the Apple car will change the way cars are made and powered, hopefully "killing" the leather option at the same time.
+Steve Redwood we hope so. But it depends if Apple has realized this aspect or not
Out of interest, why were you giving the speech in English in Cologne? Was it not German students you were giving the speech to?
+evoermine Nope, it was an international audience.
absolut
Great speech, Thomas and i really enjoy your accent :) I would hang on balls people who treat animals in such a horrible way....
thanks =) yeah good idea =)
