Adrian, don't give up I worked a full time job, drove Uber/Lyft another 6 hrs after my full time job for 3yrs and then went to school full-time for 3 1/2yrs. I barely slept but I have my masters degree and am in a nice job now. It does pay off. I'm now able to relax and take vacation at least twice a year to Jamaica. You can and will do it. We are proud of you and your journey. You are doing something great and your reward will be greater.🎉 Blessings to you and the family.
@@User-z1g3z Thank s for the compliment. at the time I was working at the University I was attending and thought I wanted to work in HR in particular the Diversity and Inclusion Training Department. However, things started changing under Trumps first presidency, then the pandemic happened and a lot of us were laid off. I actually was not laid off, but I was in a manager position in my department and 60% of my staff were and I started doing 3 peoples job including mine. I went from having an assistant and secretary to being my own assistant and secretary. The main reason I decided to complete my masters was to be considered for the Director position of my department because the current director told me he was retiring in 3-5yrs and since I did his job most of the time , plus mine I knew I could would be good at it, however, in order to be a director you need a masters degree. My ultimate goal however was to transition to HR as previously stated. Once that was no longer an option, I switched jobs so I now work for the Federal Government in the Defense Department; however, it seems I'm going to be in same position if the incoming administration have their way again.🤦😁 The good thing is I'm a born Jamaican with a house there, so I can return home with my degrees and hopefully find a job there if I need to. I worked like I did to pay for my masters because I already had student loan debt obtaining my associates and 2 bachelor's so to me working the way I did paid off. I also did majority of my classes online and chose online classes that were not tied specifically to a set class time. I had to be very strategic. Additionally, because the college I worked at was a "non profit" I received on the job training credits in lieu of taking particular classes. Plus, when I did my associates degree I did not declare a major I knew I wanted to do something in public/human services so I took a lot of psychology, sociology, and urban study classes which counted towards my degrees as well. It's important for a person going to college to get a good academic advisor to help them tailor their classes to their needs. Lastly, I made good grades so I was eligible for certain scholarships but most people in the U.S. typically do not know/understand they have resources available to them they just need to be persistent and asks questions. I worked as an academic counselor for 2yrs before being a manager of my department and helped a lot of people get the help they needed to pay for school. Sorry I got side tracked, but felt it was important to say all I said. So yes it was worth it for me, the journey was rough/hard, however, they cannot take what I've learned as well as my work experiences.
