I'm glad you liked this song. Not many people do. But I love this song too! When I'm next level angry and I have to get it out, I'll put this on my car stereo, crank it driving down the road and will sing/scream to it until I don't have a voice left. And when I'm done. I'm much less angry. I have a feeling it served the same purpose for James writing and recording it.

I can appreciate how this song helps you. Music does the same for me. Unfortunately this song doesn't do it for me due to the sound of Lars' snare drum sound. As a drummer, that pingy tuning is worse than nails on a chalkboard for me.

@@dvon1097 it's probably my second favorite metallica song, i just never connected with a song as much as i did with st. anger like ever, and i agree with the drummer above me, i can imagine that the sound of the snare might not be favorable but it just adds to the attitude of the whole record.

People need to remember what Metallica was going through when they wrote this album. It's chaotic for a reason. The fact that they were able to overcome all of that and still be going strong today is proof that a lot of magic happened while creating this album. Not for us, but for them. This was never supposed to be an album for the fans. This was an album for the band. It was their therapy. If any of us got any enjoyment at all from it, then cool. If not, then also cool. Metallica got what they needed from this album, and that's all that matters. Because if St. Anger had never happened, they probably wouldn't still be with us today.
Van... You should really check out the "Some Kind of Monster" documentary that was filmed during the making of this album. It's very eye-opening and will make you appreciate this album at least a little more.

Congrats to his family on the new addition ❤️ When I was in Iraq, A lot of my buddies I was with listened to metal music, some listened to country, some listened to hip hop. A few listened to traditional mariachi style Latin music. Just depended on the person and where they were from. The 1 album that helped me out the most was called “Deja Entendu” by the band Brand New.

I can attest to the physicality of performing. From the age of about 16 to 28, I played in numerous bands and was in top form for the entire time. I'm 41 now, and I tell you, I wish for the sharpness I used to have!
Now with Metallica, I learned something important. I saw them live in 2017...and it's actually harder to air drum or headbang than it is to perform! Proper technique dictates you move a certain way, or at least hours of practice let you figure out how to do 45mins+ without stopping.
I recall two and three-hour rehearsals at our studio space and being wired enough to go out to a bar afterward. Music is a lifeforce, for sure!

Great song great album. I’m a Funkadelic, Living Colour, Bad Brains, 24-7 Spyz dude with jazz (especially free jazz) as a musical foundation so when this came out in 2003/2004 it spoke to me. I had seen the documentary “Some Kind of Monster” before seeing the “St. Anger” or “Frantic” so the rough, raw sound of this album made sense right down tot the trash can banging drums. Punk energy, it’s my favorite Metallica joint. One caveat, I come from a different musical school and metal heads and lifelong Metallica fans will obviously feel differently. But this for me has Nirvana early Bad Brains energy and I still dig it.🖤🖤🖤🖤 Fun fact: Lars grew up with a family steeped in real jazz music in Europe and his godfather was none other than jazz immortal Dexter Gordon! Facts.

I have always loved metallica. Alot of people hated on them for the load albums and st anger albums. Every band evolves and changes their sound but since it was metallica everyone hated it. This album came out right before we shipped out to Afghanistan so it was new metallica and i loved every second. This album helped get me through. The other song was bodies, by drowning pool. That song became the anthem to alot of overseas deployments.

Everybody hated this album because of the off snare sound but I loved it. Solid song writing, then again some people hated anything that wasn't Ride the Lightning or And Justice for all so whatever. If I remember correctly I don't think there's even a single guitar solo on this album, which some people couldn't "handle."
P.S. I'm pretty sure this was a nod to Johnny Cash, who also played at San Quentin in the 50's. Also, some songs I know that were popular with our soldiers in Iraq was "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor" and Cake's "The Roof is on Fire"

What got me through was a variety of Metallica, Kid Rock, and Toby Keith, throw in some Nuggent every now and again . It was by far Metallica I was listening to most. As far as songs: Enter Sandman, Don’t Tread on Me, Seek and Destroy, and Creeping Death along with Whiplash and Motorbreath. It wasn’t until my bout with painkillers following my 3rd deployment that I fully had appreciation for Master of Puppets. Puppets is a daily staple for me now.
Hell yeah they are athletes, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a fat member of a metal band. You have to be in hella shape to maintain 180-250 beats per minute for 6-7 minutes at a time. Oh yeah One and Disposable Heroes were both in heavy rotation during my first 2 deployments.

I still don't understand why people don't like this song. I think it just totally rocks the F out!!! I think it's Lars snare, (which I hate too) but, not enough to hate the whole song!!! Right?

I love this song, and I would love it so much more if they changed that damn drum sound, my god I just wish they’d remaster st anger with good drums, it could be a much more respected and enjoyable album if they did

Yes. America's best hard rock/metal band. In the world? Lovebites from Japan. Yep. I said it. Have you checked out Lovebites? Try Holy War. Live. From Last year. Dare you.

Despite the many flaws this album and era of metallica had, You gotta give them props for this music video, Probably on their most metal videos ever.. Its real stuff aswell as the on from the day that never comes , compared with the cringy childish Gorillaz influenced animations they been using in 72 seasons and Hardwired to self destruct..
