Jean-Claude Biver is most definitely one of the most influential man in modern watchmaking for his vision, energy and passion which contributed in making what mechanical watchmaking is today.
So when we heard recently that he would retire from all operational role as the head of the watchmaking division of LVMH, meaning Hublot, TAG Heuer and Zenith, well this for sure came as a big surprise. Mr Biver could have easily retired many times before, his career and reputation already established, but he is inhabited by a real watchmaking passion.
In this long interview, we come back on his full curriculum, from childhood trigger, to his first step at Audemars Piguet, followed by a brief passage at Omega before relaunching Blancpain with the success we all know about. The brand was then sold to the Swatch Group and he joined back Omega and doing what it took to redevelop the famous brand with key partnerships and iconic products. After 10 years, he embarked on a new entrepreneurial project with Hublot, but this is where we'll take back the story in the second part of this interview.
    Enjoy!

Jean Claude Biver is a genius. I have studied marketing and worked for a A4 advertising agency. This guy is a marketing genius. So clever and very current. He had brought 3 main watch brands with a old art into mega brands. Inspiring just listening to him..

My first Swiss made watch I ever owned was a SWATCH I bought in 1985 for $35 at the Burdines , now MACY'S. I was a 14 year old kid
Now I'm a 47year old kid with an awesome Hamilton collection and lover of HOROLOGY. Thanks to Mr. Nicolas Hayek's foresight and passion. That swatch made me feel confident as a freshman in the Heavy Halls of high School. I loved that loud and proud ticking on my wrist. My wife remembers it well too. And yes, we're childhood sweet hearts.♥️

It is amazing because the path he described via Swatch into fine watches is exactly what happened to me, it's interesting that it is the same group, 'Omega' that materialised into my first watch purchase after gazing at Pepe's speedmaster for years!!!!

Just to clarify what Biver says. The Swatch watch was not an invention of Hayek but Elmar Mock and Jacques Müller, under supervision of Ernst Thomke working under Hayek.

Hayek made a product, a business, an industry, out of their idea.
