When I was a kid we attended Jim Jones' church when he was still in Indiana, USA. I spent Christmas at his house. Later he moved off to California then on to Guyana where the congregation was murdered. He had a dark energy, as a kid I could sense it. Watch out who you call teacher, leader, master.
I was 1 year and 17 days old when the Jonestown massacre occurred. Many people believe Jim Jones acted alone but the women closest to JJ ensured his plan was completed. I still think about how people will join any type of religious group but will scoff at the manipulation and control of the people in Jonestown as being gullible fools. When a person signs over all critical thinking to an ideology... they place themselves and everyone around them in danger.

No-Not necessily. There may be right now many groups, organizations in the world which are allowed to be. Allowed to exist whilst the goverment is not aware of all the details about what they do. (Good or Bad). Many or most Goverments do not operate a policy to shoot dead any one else in the country not of the goverment. Therefore many people are allowed to exist whilst not being known about. That being said. That does not mean goverments do not have rules or laws against criminal actions. So first evidence of a crime has to be brought to the attention of the Goverment. When I was younger I did not understand how people could "fall" for this, and then I spent 8years of my life with a toxic person. In a group you have friends with same interest and I know how much my few friends means to me, so this could easily have been me. So strong of these beautiful woman to speak out 💪❤️

The closest thing to a cult I’ve ever joined is a fraternity in college. Of course there was no worshiping of anything or an all powerful member, but many of the techniques are similar. The rituals, the symbolism, (like dying and being reborn) the rules , almost daily activities, the chants, the letters, weekly meetings where you’d be called out in front of the entire frat, sleep deprivation at times, being forced to live in the house, and of course excommunication. If someone quit, no matter the reason, we had to act like they were nonexistent. I basically quit slowly at the end of sophomore year without making a fuss bc I got tired of it taking up so much of my time. I didn’t have any issues in that regard bc I still attended parties and participated in rush while continuing paying dues. Sororities and fraternities are like cult-lite. I will say though it’s absolutely nothing about buying friends like so many non-Greeks say. Greek life opens many doors not only in college but afterwards too. It basically is a way to enter elite society. Why do you think so many presidents, politicians, and famous individuals join secret societies?

There was nothing that was degrading or illegal. Problem is it only takes one person to change the culture from then on our bc the pledge hazed will more than want to haze the next pledge class and beyond. It’s creates a vicious cycle where it gets worse and worse.
100% I also disaffiliated but a sorority. I was shunned and lost most of my friends. My college experience was pretty tainted by it and the things that went on and were accepted by the group. Many of them are still friends today and have a great network, live normal lives while I lost it all but it was well worth it to me. It truly grosses me out the things they turned a blind eye to.

I just don't understand how women send bikini photos to their "pastor"-and don't see that as a red flag? I guess I'm smarter than the average bear but the first time ANYONE in a church (that apparently only allows women to join) asks me to strip down and start taking pictures, I'm going to figure out that something isn't right with this picture.. It certainly briefly occurred to them that it's bizarre, but at that point, they were already far in the grooming process. It has nothing to do with intelligence. The biggest flaws as individuals are emotional, not intellectual. Moreover, humans are very social creatures and at first, every cults don't seem like one, but more like a welcoming/like-minded/accepting community. Cults leaders/recruiters will not prey on people based on their IQ, but rather on those seeking for a purpose in life and/or with low self-esteem and/or unmet emotional needs (and these vulnerabilities can happen to anyone at some point in their life regardless of how smart, average or dumb they are). In fact, being smart can work against a victim, because it helps them to think they are too smart to fall for a cult, thus more likely to "rationalize" the first mild red flags in order to keep the "feel good" emotional benefits their new friends/group bring them. Leaders/recruiters of successful cults are masters at grooming their victims, with manipulation techniques adapted to each individual, to gradually increase their indoctrination until their critical thinking skills are all tangled up and biased (making them docile and loyal followers) and it's virtually impossible to back out easily and/or safely. I hope this perspective helped you understand better.

I don't understand why that lady can't say whether or not they are investigating a "charity/church" that has complaints of sexual abuse. Is there an Australian law that exempts charities/cults/churches from being investigated even if there are reports of sexual assault documented in reports to law enforcement? My one of uncle’s got murdered by cult community in Korea. I don’t remember exactly which cult it was coz i was only3, My family and relatives are all Christian and the uncle got into cult around 1997-1998 and my mom found out and told him not to go to that church and he accepted and got missing and the police found out his body in the middle of no where in the mountain. This cult operates out of New York as well. I was walking down the streets of NY City one afternoon in January 2020 and was approached by a girl who asked if I would be interested to join a bible study. I said yes and went with her. She took me to a building which looked like a normal space where there were tables and chairs as if it were a real study area and she gave me a bible and had a bible for herself and started telling me that before we were born we were all living in spirit and once we die we will be in spirit again and that this guy was the actual messiah and we must worship him. That was when my spiritual alarm went off and I confronted her with the Bible verses that contradicted what she said. She got upset and said that I can leave if I don’t believe in what she says. I said I will leave and asked if I could use the restroom before leaving, she said yes. I sprinted out after I had used the restroom. There was another lady who was also brought in like me and she had a puzzled look on her face too.
When someone is telling you to pose and gyrate in a bathing suit, quit your job, leave your family, sleep on the floor and other outlandish and degrading things like that wouldn't that, at the least, tell you something's not right? I just can't understand this crap.

When I was younger I did not understand how people could "fall" for this, and then I spent 8years of my life with a toxic person. The closest thing to a cult I’ve ever joined is a fraternity in college. Of course there was no worshiping of anything or an all powerful member, but many of the techniques are similar. The rituals, the symbolism, (like dying and being reborn) the rules , almost daily activities, the chants, the letters, weekly meetings where you’d be called out in front of the entire frat, sleep deprivation at times, being forced to live in the house, and of course excommunication. If someone quit, no matter the reason, we had to act like they were nonexistent. I basically quit slowly at the end of sophomore year without making a fuss bc I got tired of it taking up so much of my time. I didn’t have any issues in that regard bc I still attended parties and participated in rush while continuing paying dues. Sororities and fraternities are like cult-lite. I will say though it’s absolutely nothing about buying friends like so many non-Greeks say. Greek life opens many doors not only in college but afterwards too. It basically is a way to enter elite society. Why do you think so many presidents, politicians, and famous individuals join secret societies?

There was nothing that was degrading or illegal. Problem is it only takes one person to change the culture from then on our bc the pledge hazed will more than want to haze the next pledge class and beyond. It’s creates a vicious cycle where it gets worse and worse.
100% I also disaffiliated but a sorority. I was shunned and lost most of my friends. My college experience was pretty tainted by it and the things that went on and were accepted by the group. Many of them are still friends today and have a great network, live normal lives while I lost it all but it was well worth it to me. It truly grosses me out the things they turned a blind eye to.

I was part of something I would describe as a religious cult. Nothing sexual. But, there was mental, spiritual, and other types of abuse. It is called YWAM (Youth With A Mission).

It certainly briefly occurred to them that it's bizarre, but at that point, they were already far in the grooming process. It has nothing to do with intelligence. The biggest flaws as individuals are emotional, not intellectual. Moreover, humans are very social creatures and at first, every cults don't seem like one, but more like a welcoming/like-minded/accepting community.
Cults leaders/recruiters will not prey on people based on their IQ, but rather on those seeking for a purpose in life and/or with low self-esteem and/or unmet emotional needs (and these vulnerabilities can happen to anyone at some point in their life regardless of how smart, average or dumb they are). In fact, being smart can work against a victim, because it helps them to think they are too smart to fall for a cult, thus more likely to "rationalize" the first mild red flags in order to keep the "feel good" emotional benefits their new friends/group bring them.
Leaders/recruiters of successful cults are masters at grooming their victims, with manipulation techniques adapted to each individual, to gradually increase their indoctrination until their critical thinking skills are all tangled up and biased (making them docile and loyal followers) and it's virtually impossible to back out easily and/or safely.

I don't understand why that lady can't say whether or not they are investigating a "charity/church" that has complaints of sexual abuse. Is there an Australian law that exempts charities/cults/churches from being investigated even if there are reports of sexual assault documented in reports to law enforcement? I'm from the US so I don't know Australian law but reports of crimes usually develops into an open investigation here in the US like Waco, Jonestown, the Polygamist FLDS, Heaven's Gate, NXIVM, etc. Simply not being able to talk about whether they are investigating or not is so odd.

My one of uncle’s got murdered by cult community in Korea. I don’t remember exactly which cult it was coz i was only3, My family and relatives are all Christian and the uncle got into cult around 1997-1998 and my mom found out and told him not to go to that church and he accepted and got missing and the police found out his body in the middle of no where in the mountain. Couldn’t find the killer. No one was allowed to mention about him in the family because my mom got really upset and emotional. She still thinks she couldn’t protect him 😢

This cult operates out of New York as well. I was walking down the streets of NY City one afternoon in January 2020 and was approached by a girl who asked if I would be interested to join a bible study. I said yes and went with her. She took me to a building which looked like a normal space where there were tables and chairs as if it were a real study area and she gave me a bible and had a bible for herself and started telling me that before we were born we were all living in spirit and once we die we will be in spirit again and that this guy was the actual messiah and we must worship him. That was when my spiritual alarm went off and I confronted her with the Bible verses that contradicted what she said. She got upset and said that I can leave if I don’t believe in what she says. I said I will leave and asked if I could use the restroom before leaving, she said yes. I sprinted out after I had used the restroom. There was another lady who was also brought in like me and she had a puzzled look on her face too.
When someone is telling you to pose and gyrate in a bathing suit, quit your job, leave your family, sleep on the floor and other outlandish and degrading things like that wouldn't that, at the least, tell you something's not right? I just can't understand this crap.

I think back to my 18 or 20, or even 30 y/o self and think of how vulnerable I would have been to any such cult that came to me with just the right speal. I'd have fallen hook, line, and sinker because I would have so wanted it to be true. I was in some bad places, and a cult could have offered me a way out - but it would have been far worse!

A lot of young people go through stages in their life's were they can be confused and lost in their direction. It makes them vulnerable.
If you are sheltered in a home filled with love, respect, and truthfulness, you become vulnerable. When I went out into the world at 18, I was very naive and trusting. It took a long time to realize what a warped and dishonest world we live in. I'm 70 now and remember how easy it was to be led astray at that age.
