    One point about F-stop numbers. Yes the iPhone has an aperture of 1.8, but it also has a much smaller image Circle. So you have to multiply 1.8 times the crop factor of the iPhone which is about 6x. So you will have somewhere between f10 and f11 "true aperture". The N14's 1.2 aperture probably need only be multiplied by 1.5 or 1.6 (APSC). Giving us somewhere between an F 1.8 and F2 ""true aperture".
    The iPhone lens is also designed to minimize visually unappealing color fringing and thus blocks some of the light that causes color fringing. The N14 does not need to be concerned with minimizing color fringing and so the N14's designers made the N14's lens more prioritized for light transmission (a higher T-stop rating).

    You can get tubes beyond Gen3 for this outside of the US. Some of the latest tubes might technically be second-generation, or rather SSG ( Super Second Generation ) is the official generation, but the performance is a long way outside of early Gen3 performance levels. Even in Australia, you can get a commercial tube of this kind, that outperforms all Gen3 tubes in terms of spectral range, and then has what is called FOM1600 performance ( About Omni IV/V levels of performance ) and can be resold outside of the US without permits. This housing can be supplied in Australia with a fully datasheeted FOM1600 tube that outperforms many Gen3's... In White phosphor or green phosphor.

      Large military surplus buyers will occasionally have some newer envis tubes accidentally included with they're auction orders. I have obtained many through guys that supply clothes and kit but aren't allowed to have plates and comms or nods per contract. Can usually get a blem free tube like this for $400-$600 sometimes less if buying several and sometimes more if your willing to pay it. I love the video- small criticism though- saying a f1.2 is faster is wrong in this situation. The reason we say faster is because when you have wider aperture this allows your shutter speed to be faster. F1.2 is a ratio of the aperture size to the lens size. So a 1:1.2 would be bigger than a 1:2.8. I love the explanation of how the device works! Great vid.

    • @Roos-Reviews
      @Roos-Reviews  2 года назад

      Thanks for correcting me so politely. I'm a bit confused about what you're correcting though. Am I wrong to say that the f1.2 lens on the night vision device is a faster lens than the f1.8 on the iPhone 10? When I was a teen a photographer explained "fast" to me like this: a camera lens is described as faster than another lens because it gathers more light in a given period of time than the slower lens, allowing a faster shutter speed to be used.

    • @notlisteninganymore
      @notlisteninganymore 2 года назад

      @@Roos-Reviews you’re correct that a f1.2 will let in more light than f1.8 so for an exposure let’s say you had f1.8 1/10 shutter and iso 100 In order to get the same exact exposure it would be f1.2 1/20 iso 100 so because you’re letting in more light with your aperture, your shutter speed would have to be faster to get the same exposure. Hence why they would call it a “faster lens”. With night vision we’re not dealing with a shutter at all. Only aperture and iso (called gain in the night vision world)

    Fun fact, here in the US, Generation 3 white phosphor tubes (Which are blue, in reference to your point at about 3 minutes in.) have caught on QUICK in the last few years. For about two of them, L3 white phosphor tubes have been on a two month backlog. Turns out in that kinda turquoise blue shade they use, many can perceive contrast a lot easier, as well as eye fatigue doesn't set in like it does on greens. BUT, it's a good bit more expensive.

    • @Roos-Reviews
      @Roos-Reviews  4 года назад

      I used to own a Gen2+ tube in white phosphor or quick silver as it’s sometimes called. And I loved the look much more than green. Some people anecdotally say they can see better with the white but as far as my understanding goes, scientifically green is supposed to provide more distinguishable shades.
      I liked the white because it was closer to a black and white image and thus more natural. All green gets tiresome after a while.

    I've held a night vision scope to my eye, and when you take it away you're night blind for a pretty long time. I would much rather use red so when I take it off I can see in the faint night right away.

    • @Roos-Reviews
      @Roos-Reviews  5 лет назад +3

      ookiemand Yes, red is less detrimental to the eye’s natural night vision abilities but the technology in night vision like this (image intensifier tubes) uses green because the human eye is most sensitive to green wavelengths of light, allowing more information to be seen.
      There are some modern image intensifier tubes which produce a blueish white image. There is still debate over whether or not it is as good as green. I owned one and liked it for being different but I preferred green. You will not see any red ones.

USA gen3 Harris or L3 are still the best performers around. Alot of units sold over seas that claim to be USA 3rd gen are harder digital tubes which are repotted substandard Russian tubes. Harder digital specs PC sensitivity claimed 2200. Actual 1350. Signal to noise ratio 28-30 claimed. Actual 18 to 20. Resolution 72 claimed 58 actual. So be careful ppl.

      TaureanKing you’re correct with that statement. They’re coming in from the magnetic northwest and following the waterways down through America. It’s almost as they’re getting into position for something. Getting into position in a strategic like manner. I have my opinions about it, but nobody wants to listen until it’s too late. They’re not going through all that trouble just to tell us how wonderful this civilization is either. I think they’re getting into position to clean house so to speak. There’s been ten civilizations before us that has completely disappeared without a trace, and I hope we’re not 11th on that list.

      I don't know from where these creatures are coming from either, if its the government doing this things to scare people off the woods and forcing us to live in the city thus having more control of us, or if they come from extraterrestrial ships with extraterrestrial beings doing experiments on us or from the north pole hole, but what i know is that these creatures are real and i think they have preyed us before because people that have had encounters with these cretures describe a primordial fear as if this thing hunted our ancestors in the past, they were our hunters, so you might be right, they're might be preparing for another civilization whipe out. And the thing is these creatures are spreading like crazy, more and more people have encounters with these beings, those who survive are left with PTSD and serious trauma, these things are not cute and do not like us very much. The best we can do its spread the word of the existence of these creatures, no matter if people think we're crazy in first instance, they will become believers soon or later but the faster they hear about it the sooner they believe.

      An ex mil. guy stated that in 1980, the view through his starlight scope of some bright objects caused such brightness (obviously from the phosphor screen) that it "almost burnt his eye". Was that an experience you ever had with those old devices?

    • @Roos-Reviews
      @Roos-Reviews  3 года назад +1

      It's probably an over reaction. I suppose if you were in the dark for some time and your eyes had fully adapted to them darkness and then you looked into a NV scope it would feel intensely bright, just as if you suddenly looked at a smart phone on max brightness in the same scenario.
      Some James Bond films depicted NV-equipped bad guys being taken out just by shining a bright light like a flare in their direction and they'd scream and fall over. That was an exaggeration for cinematic effect.
