Taking the battery out for a bit longer will result in all capacitors in the camera being fully discharged - it probably has something to do with that (some camera circuitry is probably still on when the switch is turned off when the battery is present or there is enough electricity in the capacitors). So, the advice should also be - if you send this (or any camera with electrically moving parts) by mail, first take the battery out so the camera cannot turn itself on.
I had same problem last month when the camera can't detect the lens after i accidentally dropped the camera. My solution is, I'm went to hardware shop and bought screwdriver tools. I open the lens by my self and fixed all the screws inside that lens. And finally it's work! and back to normal again.
I use the a5100 and have gotten to know the kit lens very well. I've "broken" the lens just like you have it here three times now when the camera is powered on, the lens is "popped out" and then the camera falls. It's prone to breaking because of three tiny plastic pieces that keeps things "in its groove." Yours is likely repairable. There's already a great video I found on RUclips to take apart the lens, however, it takes lots of patience to figure out and understand how the last part of the lens actually operates (how the inside part extends from the barrel). Tough to describe but it's possible to save your $100!
q4short You are a genius. I literally just spent 2 hours taking the lens apart, glued a piece back, and put it back together. It works! It's fixed! Thank you for the info and slight nudge of motivation!
@Arthur R Old video, old Sony problem. You can fix this problem with 1-2 drops of cantact fluid because the contacts are corroded. You can't see it, but the are. It worked perfectly for me. But(!) only if corrosion is really the issue. 2nd possibility is a broken ladder inside the body. Then you can't repair it yourself and a technician has to change the board inside.
My lens was stuck and would not go back in after dropping it. I removed the lens and it was very loose and finally out frustration I pressed down really hard and I heard a click and it was no longer loose. I attached it back to my Sony and it retracted back inside. Works perfectly.
A similar problem happened where my aperture was locked (my theory) and none of my lenses would work on the a6000, after watching this video I tried removing the battery along with the SD card and surprisingly it worked again
There is a " Power Save Sleep Mode" that the A6000 has and even the A6300 and A6500 have it. The cameras if left to sit for long periods will run down the battery and so Sony put a power save sleep mode into the camera to allow the camera to be quickly powered up when not being used at that moment. Turning the camera on from an off state uses a lot of battery power as there are lots of APPS that must be put into motion and the CPU must be powered up and capacitors charged using lots of battery power. Many people do not know this and it sometimes goes into this mode and causes the shutter to close and not use much of the battery power making people think their camera is broken. It is in the manuals. Sometimes the sleep mode gets stuck because it cannot recognize the lens with so little power available and it looks like that is what your camera did.
It happened to me too(same problem with yours with the kit lens) and I just bought the unit few months ago. I sent it to Sony service center, so far it's working well. I read somewhere that's a common problem with the kit lens.
I like your videos so when I saw this thumbnail I thought "oh no clickbait" but decides to watch anyways because like I said I enjoy your videos. Lets just say I was surprised to find that you got straight to the talking point and even offered advice to people that might have the same problem. Thanks you for keeping it "real" here on YT and not devolving to devious antics like so many.
I just droped my sony a6000 accidentaly and suddenly the camera is out of focus. I'm a little bit panic but when I turn it off and turn it on again, it's working well again. Thank God.
I had the same thing happen to my kit lens when I dropped the camera on a trip a month ago. the lens just flopped around and wouldn't be recognized so it seems like the electronic connection/tether was severed somehow in the barrel itself? I upgraded to the sigma 30mm 1.4 and don't regret it one bit it's an amazing step up and still flexible for a prime with the clear image zoom
My battery started to overheat in the camera while on holiday in Europe and now even new batteries do not keep a charge in the A6000 (2 year old). Charge percentage drops right in front of my eyes and even if shut down. This is a new phenomenon. Could the camera be damaged from the original battery having overheated?
I've disassembled three copies of that kit lens from eBay and was able to fix two of them. Its quality is quite poor. It's common problem that a small piece of plastic is broken and causes a jam. Don't be so sure. If you're not careful about disassembling, you may not be able to put it back together. Trust me on this.
Glad to see that your A6000 came back to life!!! I have been having a problem off late. Bought an A6000, 7 months ago and its been awesome. However, 3 weeks ago I noticed pink spots on my camera live view during long exposures (dead/hot pixels, I guess). They have vanished towards the end of the month(Read online thats when A6000 resets/averages out dead pixels). The main problem is that in long exposure captured images(with lens cap on as well), I still see some pink spots in the top left corner which can be fixed in post processing but are annoying. Have any suggestions that I can try? Its still under warranty so I can contact sony as well but am afraid that I might get another used camera.
I just tried to update my camera, and it turned off during the update. The update said that i didn’t had enough battery to update it, so i charged it to about 60%. During the update the camera turned off, and now it won’t turn on again. Just a red light flashing at the bottom of the camera. Do you think there’s anything to be done? Sony said that This is not on the warranty and in their words «useless» now....
Hi!, the same problem happened to me. I thought the lens was gone, so I bought a new one...But, one day, I just manually pushed the lens to close it, and it worked!!! Now I have 2 kit lenses haha.
Sebahwk Haha. I'm in the same boat. I ordered a new kit lens a day or two ago, and I just fixed the kit lens in the last 15 minutes. Mine had a broken plastic tab that I had to gorilla glue. It works now!
Hi! U dropped my a6000 on carpet! And its saying the same message as yours! And i haven't a clue how to fix it, if i change lens would that work? And what lens would you recommend for videos? Thank you!! Xxxx
Seems to be a common problem with 16-50 kit lens. I had two of them with the same problem. You can try this: 1- Turn the camera on while the lens is heading downward. 2- If it did not work, then while the lens motor is pushing it out, gently press the front of the lens (the moving part) and release it. The press should be such that it goes almost 1~2 mm in and the release it. Hope it works. Thank you for all your great videos BTW.
Thanks for the tip! I found a piece of broken plastic on the zoom ring where it connects to the motor, I think that is the issue. I'm going to try some gorilla glue....
I just broke my 16-50 kit lens from tripot...because the weather is too windy...orz...hope my kit lens will come back like this. By the way, I really love your video and it's helpful!
I accidentally dropped mine this weekend, the sigma 16 mm f1,4 came off its based , Im sending it to Sigma tonight ,,, hopefully they can fix it ,,only the screws that hold the base of the lens to the shoe broke,,I guess it requires a new plastic base, Unfortunately the camera wont turn on.. I will try to do what you suggested tonight,,,thanks for posting these great videos..
My a6000 got a few green dots that appear on the LCD screen. Those dots won’t affect me taking pictures but just really bothers me. Have you experienced this before with your a6000? Is there a way to fix this? Thanks!
Interesting.. I'm not sure if you will read this but... Is your wife filming vlog with this camera? She have got some pratical hack to film seing herself? Or She just trust in the camera and the frame? Another thing that is because I'm seeing lots of your videos again.. I'm facing the trouble of dust on my sensor. I don't know why but I get always so much dirt comparing with other people that has the sony a6000. My question is if you still recommend and trust the same swabs and liquid from the other video. Is my first time doing it and I'm scared about what I'll do to my camera sensor.
hey, glad to know it worked out for you! I'd like to see how you disassembled the kit lens, i dropped mine from my camera bag, and same things happened. Hope I can also tweak it a little bit to revive it again lol
I'm receiving an A6000 tomorrow and will be using it for a trip. What second lens would you recommend buying that would allow me to do cool cinematography content with a nice blur ? Also ; my previous camera was an ooooooooold Sony A100.. I had only a macro lens with it (3.5-5.6/18-70); do you think it's ok to use it on the A6000 Like your videos and your style man :)
Geeks Curiosity You didn't learned your lesson. Sony will always make you lose money. Buy another more consistent manufacturer camera in order to have mind peace for years to come.
what? I know i can always find a ring, i was wondering if a a100 compatible lens was also a6000 compatible without a ring. Also i was wondering what nice lens i could complete my setup with. I will have this macro lens i can presumably use and the kit lens he talks about in the video (16-50). I'm looking for something in between i guess ^^
p0rt0b0y Go for the 16-50. Both lenses are not good, so I wouldn't really recommend one of them. But the 16-50 is much smaller and 16mm is better for landscapes. Also for videos it's better with the motorized zoom in my opinion. If you stop this lens down to 6.3+, it's quite usable. Wide open it's very unsharp.
Thunderbird1337 Yes I most likely will pick up the 16-50, mainly due to its compactness. Shame there isn't many other affordable options in this range. Thanks for the advice!
well interesting as my a6000 just did same tonight. No power at all. Shutter is not closed though. No idea why it has always been handles carefully. I will try your suggestion overnight, SD card is out, battery removed, charged 3 genuine sony ones to trty tomorrow. Sad day if she does not come back to life.
My A6000 movie capture on manual mode there's some orange line color like flare that move from up to down lcd. But when I change to the auto mode it's gone. That's an error or something?
can you please compare the 5100 and the 6000 run time until they overheat. trying to decide which will have a longer recording time until it shuts down thanks
Returned mine after 5 days .... the lens will not stop zooming IN and OUT every 5 seconds, following by blurry image and not able to recognize lens. As well has turning it off and the lens will continue to stick out . Very bad product , nice pics though. Bought a d3400 couldnt be happier and the features are almost the same as the sony, it even has better resolution.
That's weird. Definitely a lens issue. I have never shot nikon, always felt awkward in the hands, and it is much bigger than a mirrorless camera. The size and the AF are the big selling points of the Sony.
***** to be honest the AF of the D3400 its as quick as the a6000 im not lying , im not making things up trust me ! my dad has a canon 60D and hes impress of the capabilities of the Nikon, hell my nikon has more features than his ! I in the other hand felt like the a6000 was a delicate camera , nikon or other dslr feels very though and maneuverable. Try nikon u will love it ! XD
Arthur, is there any solutions of my sony a6000 monitor color. It shows inaccurate color than viewfinder. ??? My copied images from a6000 is accurate on the viewfinder.
My newly bought a6000 suddenly stop recording ,camera error message put of the power and then on the power.but camera power remaining on with the camera error message for more then 15 minutes and after that camera is off but camera doesn't work untill remove the battery and insert the battery after 10 to 30 minutes.camera is functioning for 5minutes,sometimes for 10 minutes, again stop recording and showing camera error message.pls, some one advise me possible to fix this problem by myself.sony service is impossible in my country.pls, advise me.i like this camera for some reasons.
Can't Upload Through WiFi I just bought my A6000 a couple days ago, and it won't let me send my photos to my iPhone(5S), iPad(Mini2) or friend's phone. My conclusion is it must be the PlayMemories App, because I can remotely control my camera through Sony's other app. Has you, or anyone know had this happen to them / know how to fix it?
They are close. Both are great cameras. One is bigger than the other, otherwise the differences are pretty negligible in the grand scheme of things. Try out both at a camera store and make your decision, factoring in price as well.
I Have a Sony Alpha 5100L . Kit Lens's Portrait picture is no much sharper than Canon DSLR Like Kanon 700D . Can I use A Prime Lens to get a better Portrait Photos ? If I able to capture smooth Picture by using Sony Prime lens alike canon DSLR' Please Suggest Me a Prime Lens . Thank You .. I am your Fan
Thanks for this vid. I didn't know about the moving shutter on my a6000 and wondered why/how they put such a realistic shutter sound in there. I thought that a digital sensor just had to tell the memory what it was seeing at any moment. Glad you got it working again. It's a nervous moment when we find something is out of kilter like this.
Hi i wish you would reply to this comment, i think my sonya6300 is broken because when i'm shooting i keep it at 800ISO as much as possible and 4000 at maximum at night, and sonya6300 is known as a good cam for low light however even at 800ISO it still has so much grain and it when i first bought it, it was not like this i don't know what happened.

@technologymafia Question: The a6000 is the same price as the Panasonic Lumix D7, $549. So how come the Lumix does 4k and has a front facing screen. While Sony doesn't offer that in it's competitive product? It's $700 more for the sony 6500 and you still don't get a front facing screen. Seems to me, sony is short on those features and behind the competition in terms of those features. Things I'd guess anybody filming in the home even on a tripod and Casey Neistat style would want. Seems to me Sony needs to bring it's features in line with the competition, and add 4k & flip out screen at this price point. The competition has it.
The problem with every other competitor (except for Canon's 70D, 80D, or better) is auto focus. Panasonic AF is not good. It is slow, and it "breathes" constantly. You can change settings to make it better, but it will never be as fast or accurate as Sony's autofocus. Even some sony full frame cameras are not great at autofocus. The A6000, A6300, and A6500 nail autofocus. As for the screens, I dont know why Sony didnt include a flip around screen on the A6000 - maybe to sell more A5100s? :)
Thanks for the response. I see. I get the autofocus issue. Fair enough. But both camera's do have the feature "autofocus." The G7 is just not great at it. Understood. But But Sony a6000 flat lacks the features altogether, of the competition at the same price point: no touchscreen, worse touchscreen, no flip out screen, no 4k. It's saying, pay $700 to get get the a6500 to get the features a g7 gives you at $550 which seems a peculiar business decision. Also it seems a budding youtube would gravitate towards the affordable sony's as you say because of the better autofocus if only it had the flip out/up screen and a touchscreen. It'd probably be a huge hit. Strikes me as a poor business decision. Anyways that a huge takeaway when comparison shopping. who knows if i ever get some money to buy a real camera they might have updated their products by then. hopefully. PS: for the record i lean towards the a6000 because i personally would take more photos than video and 1080p is fine. But no flipout/touch screen still is a massive deterrent. But i'm broke so lol, i got time.
I wanted to mention you're content is outstanding. I've learned so much more from your comparisons than watching many other videos. I could really see the difference, changing the settings does to create bokeh, in low light, nighttime. Seeing images side by side is illuminating because sometimes the difference is there but for a novice, who isn't going to make giant prints, ENTIRELY acceptable. And that's so good to know when you're a novice, learning, and learning about lenses. There are other great pods on photography, like Tony & Chelsea but yours is actually so clear and to the point it's is super informative. I've even watched your vids while taking notes when i heard something that amounted to photography 101. like "hey i used an f1.8 fstop to blur the background. Here i used and f.16 and it's clear." Boom! Wisdom. Write it down I'd say. It's not dumbed down. It's just clear and concise. Keep up the great work.
i love my A6000 too, i'm getting the samsung nx500 too as a back up camera but my A6000 stays my first love if it's appropriate to say that, i have the metabones adapter which helps widen the frame and reduce the crop factor of the frame and i'm really loving for both videography and photography, i tend to thank you SO MUCH for all your videos and lens comparaison but i would love that you make a compraison of the canon 24-105mm f4 L USM lens with the Sony 18-105mm (if i'm not wrong about this one) please, much love from Tunisia
here's the review for the metabones speedbooster adapter that i have m.dpreview.com/articles/8961802602/metabones-and-caldwell-photographic-annouce-speed-booster-lens-adapter-for-mirrirless-cameras
Man! This a6000 made you older in only few months. Sell it, give it to someone who wants begin with photography and doesn't have money and buy a recent camera to find your health.
That's a very special opinion completely different to the consens of tons of tests and user reviews that you find in the net. Sony is building abolutely great and outstanding cameras. Only the support is a downside.
Thunderbird1337 A camera without lenses is a garbage. Using full frames, old ones, or from sigma and Tamron, and most of them in manual mode, is without logic for me. Maybe acceptable in video but not in photography when with similar amount of money you can find way more technological advanced cameras with budget good dedicated lences. Only the money one will lose if want to sell his sony, if will find someone to buy a sony with a canon full frame lense, a 10 years old manual lense ecc, it is a crazy situation. Better stay without a camera for a year to put money apart for a more expensive camera, than this kind of experiments.
Thunderbird1337 You can find plenty and the small differences in weight, number of frames per second ecc, have weight only on paper and not in real life, especially for everyday photographers. Having on the other hand bought a lense which you can use even after years, because the manufacturer is consistent with his products and not changing his mind every now and then, is something that a consumer appreciate in long run.

Hi, my kit lens is also broken. Can you send the link for the video you found on youtube to take apart the lens ?
My lense is barrel is bent so it wont slide, any ideas on what to do? Its stuck. I took it apart to the part where it slides but mine will not

How long after removing the battery and the SD card did you put them back to check that it worked?
Remove battery, flip switch to on, press and hold shutter button for 30 seconds. Usually for a frozen camera.
BRO THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU JUST SAVED MY WHOLE LIFE!!!
There is a " Power Save Sleep Mode" that the A6000 has and even the A6300 and A6500 have it. Good job it wasn't one of those expensive Zeiss lenses!
Yes, do a video on disassembling the kit lens. I dropped mine and it no longer functions.
I’ve tried everything to fix mine, it still won’t turn on 😪
The funny thing is that I'm using the Kit-Lens with the a6000 for 2 years and the same thing happened to me last week as the camera felt down.

I don't know why but I get always so much dirt comparing with other people that has the sony a6000. My question is if you still recommend and trust the same swabs and liquid from the other video. Is my first time doing it and I'm scared about what I'll do to my camera sensor.
my flash went out, i have the sony a5000 and the flash bulb went out and can't seem to find the bulb by itself. what can i do?
Please make a kit lens breakdown video! I just busted mine & the repair cost is the same as the lens itself!!!
hey, glad to know it worked out for you!
I had only a macro lens with it (3.5-5.6/18-70); do you think it's ok to use it on the A6000
Like your videos and your style man :)
Geeks Curiosity
You didn't learned your lesson.
I’ve seen that happen with a lot of Sony cameras, sometimes they don’t turn on and then one day they turn on like normal
Hiiii....
could you plz suggest me a good case which can protect my a6000... thanks in advance
Would you still pick the 16-50mm over the 18-55mm kit lens? The 18 seems much more sturdy.
Just don't drop it, then it's no problem.
Thunderbird1337 Do you think i would be dropping it on purpose? Nobody wants to drop a lens but it happens.
p0rt0b0y Go for the 16-50.
Hi, Mike! I found my camera dead today too as you described(( What about yours, did you find the solution?
@@Oliostro Sadly no mate mine is dead. All I know is the casue was electrical.
Any luck brother? how did you solve it? please help if you fixed it I have the same problem
i have the a5000, looking forward to videos you shoot about it
Yes Please, break down the kit lens - love to see the inside of one.
My A6000 movie capture on manual mode there's some orange line color like flare that move from up to down lcd. But when I change to the auto mode it's gone. That's an error or something?
I just purchased this camera (body) only in 2019, my question is, if the shutter should be closed when its normally off?
Mine isnt.
can you please compare the 5100 and the 6000 run time until they overheat. trying to decide which will have a longer recording time until it shuts down thanks
I do have an alpha 57
It won't recognize lenses with inbuilt autofocus motor
Works fine with other
Kindly advice
I had the same problem with my Sony NEX 5n where in the shutter stayed closed. it never fixed itself. I had to send it to the service center.
XD
I need help and support with sony a 6000, my camera is not getting on out of the box, screen is showing broken screen
I had similar issue, still facing same isue
Did everything you told but it didn't start
my lens is stuck open. turn it off, it stays open. turn it on, makes a couple ticking sounds within the lens, retracts then reopens and turns on.
mate how did you solve it?
Can't Upload Through WiFi
I just bought my A6000 a couple days ago, and it won't let me send my photos to my iPhone(5S), iPad(Mini2) or friend's phone. My conclusion is it must be the PlayMemories App, because I can remotely control my camera through Sony's other app.
Has you, or anyone know had this happen to them / know how to fix it?
Nick Love mine works
Nick Love have you installed the latest firmware on the camera?
Hi Arthur, do you know and/or could you reference me to how to take apart the oom button on a 5100? Thank you
a5100 is the bomb, for the price, esp. great for 1080p using primes
my a6000 suddenly says cant read the sd memory card!
hiiiiii
sony a6000 vs canon 700d
who win in photo and video?
thnx
They are close. Both are great cameras. One is bigger than the other, otherwise the differences are pretty negligible in the grand scheme of things. Try out both at a camera store and make your decision, factoring in price as well.
TechnologyMafia thanks bro
peace from Algeria ✌
I Have a Sony Alpha 5100L . Kit Lens's Portrait picture is no much sharper than Canon DSLR Like Kanon 700D . Can I use A Prime Lens to get a better Portrait Photos ? If I able to capture smooth Picture by using Sony Prime lens alike canon DSLR' Please Suggest Me a Prime Lens . Thank You .. I am your Fan
Basudeb Ghosh Sony 50 mm 1.8
Have the 5100...love it! Use to have the better video codec than the 6000 until they did a firmware update for the 6000.
Hi i wish you would reply to this comment, i think my sonya6300 is broken because when i'm shooting i keep it at 800ISO as much as possible and 4000 at maximum at night, and sonya6300 is known as a good cam for low light however even at 800ISO it still has so much grain and it when i first bought it, it was not like this i don't know what happened.

if you had $700 towards one lens for A6000 what would your 1st choice be?
Colm Malone
700 dollars?
And why keep this "money black hole" of a camera and not buy a decent one?
Guardian Observer "buy a decent one" haha nice joke because the a6000 is a decent camera.
GoatPvP
Its a decent old camera without decent lenses.
Guardian Observer Adapt some vintage lenses. They are quite underrated. But for "more modern - autofocus" lenses i do agree to some part.
Self service Sony...amazing
My a6000's flash blasted on me I don't know what to do, I use it alot,I kind of need it.
🤚❗ Stop
My kit lens also broken ...same message on the screen...😒
Hi, did the problem with shutter button returned?
Nenad Mitrovic no
@technologymafia Question: The a6000 is the same price as the Panasonic Lumix D7, $549.
Where in Texas are you located at
Nice video!
*1:24* How is that “interesting” ?
It is to me.....
LOL! Yes, he is long winded for the fast pace of social media, but seems to be a nice guy and will quickly adjust IMHO.
I bet you were visiting your in-laws, when camera was left behind and they had to mail it. Otherwise it would be your wife making this video! :)
i love my A6000 too, i'm getting the samsung nx500 too as a back up camera but my A6000 stays my first love if it's appropriate to say that, i have the metabones adapter which helps widen the frame and reduce the crop factor of the frame and i'm really loving for both videography and photography, i tend to thank you SO MUCH for all your videos and lens comparaison but i would love that you make a compraison of the canon 24-105mm f4 L USM lens with the Sony 18-105mm (if i'm not wrong about this one) please, much love from Tunisia
Khalil Ouertani hang on they have an adapter for that? Who makes it? I need that in my life now
Khalil Ouertani scratchy that I just read it lol I didn't even know a thing like that existed. Thanks for mentioning it though 😀
here's the review for the metabones speedbooster adapter that i have m.dpreview.com/articles/8961802602/metabones-and-caldwell-photographic-annouce-speed-booster-lens-adapter-for-mirrirless-cameras
Man! This a6000 made you older in only few months.
Sell it, give it to someone who wants begin with photography and doesn't have money and buy a recent camera to find your health.
He already got an A6300.
Thunderbird1337
From Another manufacturer. Sony a system is made only to help selling health pills.
That's a very special opinion completely different to the consens of tons of tests and user reviews that you find in the net. Sony is building abolutely great and outstanding cameras. Only the support is a downside.
Thunderbird1337
A camera without lenses is a garbage.
Thunderbird1337
You can find plenty and the small differences in weight, number of frames per second ecc, have weight only on paper and not in real life, especially for everyday photographers. Having on the other hand bought a lense which you can use even after years, because the manufacturer is consistent with his products and not changing his mind every now and then, is something that a consumer appreciate in long run.
thnx i will try lol,,,,,
Lmao god gave the camera life over night 😂
This is a joke
hi
thanks for nothing.
