Absolutely brilliant, hilarious and perfectly performed. The contradiction between the upbeat and pleasant tone of the music and the derelict message in the lyrics are what makes this funny,
Me and my brother absolutely loved this episode, we can still quote most of it from memory. The “fly stuck in a toffee” line always had us in hysterics. 😂
If you listen to Julie Andrews sing Spoonful of sugar and listen to this song after each other, you will really hear how perfect Maggie Roswell performed.
I certainly hope she has heard this parody song, and the "Feed the Birds" parody song from this episode, but that she has not seen the part where Shary Bobbins gets sucked up into the jet engine!
I know that all of their attempts at getting a guest star to voice Sherry fell through, but I love it when the regular voice actors do these roles, it's just so much more fun. They're just so much better at these parts.
What's funny about this is that they actually wanted Julie Andrews for this role, but they couldn't get her, so they got Maggie Roswell doing a spot-on impression.
There's a deleted scene in which Patty and Selma sing a song about smoking. When they leave the room, Sherrie Bobbins has a raspy voice from the cigarette smoke and Maggie herself is smoking.
They were running a fine line on copyright infringements. The notes in the score was subtly off by a few notes here and there which makes this even more brilliant! I bet if Walt was alive he would have tried to sue the crap out of them lol
I always called the cut every corner approach from this song "The American Way", so whenever I had to clean, my mother would always tell me she didn't want it done "The American Way".
I like that they were going to go with the idea that merry boppins was gonna be a bad caretaker but then they throw that idea right out the window right after this song
0:19 Bart realizes he has to make a painful decision: either burn all the Playdude magazines he has secretly stashed away, or risk being forced to read all their crummy and disgusting articles.
It is soooo so so true. Simpsons used to be a brilliant satire on the consumerist, irresponsible society where profit is superior to everything. It reminds me of rabbits in a hutch who shit under their own feet. In metaphor I'd say American way is to eat as much as possible and shit under everyone's feet. :-)
@@Father_of_Death this episode aired in 1997, when Julie Andrews underwent vocal surgery to fix a weak spot, which led to her losing her ability to sing.
01:18 "It's the American way." Actually it's worse elsewhere. Somebody said he visited a friend in India. He had to explain to him that it's wrong to throw trash out their upper story window.
She was practically the perfect nanny for The Simpsons and they still broke her spirit and destroyed her will to live.
Sad. She was my favourite character. I would hope for her to come back to life in a future episode of the cartoon.

This is such an amazing parody of "Mary Poppins"!
I'M SHAREY BOBBINS Y'ALL
Too bad she died at very end
Oh I knew I recognised her from something.
Oh thanks I tought was a parody of the Lion King!
Who ?
One of the best Simpsons episodes ever.
Jeremy Smith No it isn't. It's good, but not one of the best ever. Probably not top 50 material.
Love this episode. One of my favorites
Probably my favourite one of all time.
+NoobyLittle1942er That's his opinion
Butters 527 exactly. This and the Halloween special with marge as a witch are my top two favorites

Nope.
This actually describes Disney's process with remakes very well.
Except we all see it and we all get mad 🤣
Except for the part where it involves Disney's greed...y'know, the reason those crappy "remakes" exist $$
Except what they're doing isn't a half-assed job; it's deliberately and maliciously destructive.

2:15 I always rewind this part because Homer’s harmonising with the rest is just so satisfying to the ear lmao
I liked Apu's too. Maybe the same voice?
Wasn't there a line from Homer saying she waxed the ramp with her butt?
yeah, it's missing. this clip must be cut from tv.
+Eric M Butt why? Best joke of the episode
+Plot Twist thanks obama.
"Her butt waxed the banister".
This is probably from a gutless Channel 4 cut.
How can you not love this episode?!? One of the best ever
I'm more impressed that Homer lifted the couch like that by himself in the garden
A lifetime of cutting corners has left him huge reserves of energy to be summoned when needed.
I'm more impressed that Flanders didn't sue Homer for homicide,, this could end up very tragically :(
I wonder if Julie Andrews has ever seen this episode since she’s the real Mary Poppins
She was supposed to be the voice of sherry bobbins somthing happened and she wasn’t able to do it
I certainly hope she has heard this parody song, and the "Feed the Birds" parody song from this episode, but that she has not seen the part where Shary Bobbins gets sucked up into the jet engine!
*Most probably!*
This is honestly so genius and so hilarious I can’t give it enough credit
It really is, definitely the best parody I’ve ever seen of a Disney property that came from a non-Disney cartoon!!
Lies again? Sunday Bell Spank Bang
Homer said: "You are like Mary Poppins."
"OH no. I am Shary Bobbins, a wholly independent creation."
My all-time favourite song from the Simpsons
I agree with you 💯
Back when the Simpsons was a great show.
The new ones was the time when the simpsons lost its magic
Agreed!! They should just end it.
I like the new season .
Don't yall get tired of saying the same thing over and over again? I can't watch any classic Simpsons on youtube without yall bitching
It’s still a great show lol
I don't get why the "Her butt waxed the banister" got cut.
More time for commercials in syndication.
Someone got BUTThurt about that moment!
Its in the episode, exclusively cut from this video
One of the best episodes ever!
The way Apu rolls his R at the end kills me for some reason.
This song is an oxymoron It’s so cynical and so cheerful at the same time
She truly is magical. When she waves her finger it disappears behind her neck line.
Hilarious and cynical vision of western culture.
