I would imagine that all the good stuff has been moved over to the new shop and it is much more typical of a residential garage. Mustie said he didn't even have the tools there to address the stuck brake.
I can’t over-emphasize how important these videos are to me. Not only are they inspirational for me learning wrenching myself, but they’re also the ESCAPE I need when things are going badly. I started his weekend (good old Friday the 13th), with receiving some VERY BAD NEWS, and additionally, not one, not two, but THREE of my central A/C systems went down (home and office), and additionally somebody killed two of my cats. No, I’m not kidding. I have the “greatest” luck (and my cats are my “children” like some people’s dogs are)... Well, this video was a MUCH NEEDED ESCAPE for a few minutes. Thanks for that! Please keep ‘em coming! ... On a side note, I would suggest putting DEHUMIDIFIERS in any places where moisture/humidity is a concern. I have them scattered all over the place, and it’s critical if you want to keep things nice here in Southwest Georgia where the humidity is “1000%”... Cheap couple hundred dollar investment when thousands of dollars of tools, machines, equipment are on the line, and would otherwise be victims of high humidity...
Really sorry to hear what happened to your cat's Steve. I have my Tiger and Juliett for 12 years now. I would be devastated if their lives were cut short. I really feel for you. I ESCAPE with these videos too. I hope our dark place begins to see the light of goodness soon. (David 60 years old, trying to get a job)
I can smell it! Of course 51 years ago I mixed bleach and ammonia to be a super cleaner when I was 16 years old. Unsupervised 16 year olds are lucky to live for another 51 years. PS white bubbles coming out of solutions is not a good sign. Running for fresh air can save your life. I would really like a single or double cab!
I'm already on my second pot of coffee for the day that started very early for me and was reminded by my lady that it was Sunday so I dropped everything and topped off my cup and had me some Mustie1 time. I was not disappointed as usual. I do miss your old garage though. I like the new one too but there's history in the old one that will never be forgotten. Good to see the double cab again too.
That’s a smart trick hanging a jacket on the tow strap! I’ve seen a forklift operator take a shot to the chest once when the strap came off the load. Good one!
Everything You Touch turns to Magic is only a couple of things you said it's not worth my time or the money you're always honest I love that keep up the good work looking forward to the next one brother
Some of us remembered you had that double cab yet! And glad to see it come back out. And then you got back down to Florida, and glad to see the Westy still going, and your dad doing well too. Understand totally the tendonitis..it's real, and I get it too at times! That should be a channel help thing, where we all take a turn on the sanding on the rough side now, or just get a couple of the younger set to do it ;) But look forward to it getting done.
Thanks for sharing Fahrvergnügen with your father! My Dad died young, and I wish I could drive around with him and talk cars too. It still gives me joy to see you with your Pops as it brought back my own good memories.
Not gonna lie watching your videos has made me a vintage v dub fan I'd really love to get an old beetle and try my hands at bringing it back to life like you do love your work thanks for sharing !!!!
Thanks for the update on mustie dad and the 88 westy. I really like that year van and the color is beautiful. It's awesome Darren that I'm not far from your parents and my roots are from new England (Rhode island). Take care. 😎👍
Hi Darren, it was nice to see your Dad and his Vanagon again. I hope your Mom is feeling fine too. I still remember the video when you gave the T3 to your parents... but I was surprised it was five (!) (😨) years ago. Time is running so fast. I love your new garage. This place is awesome. Greetings from germany... 🙋
G'DAY Mustie , glad to see the double cab in the new workshop , at least now you have the room to put your projects inside , keeping them out of the elements is half the battle , mine isn't snow ice & rain it's the sun here in Oz that damages ,paint , seats & rubber parts etc ,that's why we need cover. I just pulled down an old shed on a mate's property there is enough materials to build a decent sized storage shed at my place, I have lots of parts & panels to put in it ,as I hate seeing good parts to go to waste . Oh ! great job on that John Deere tractor , that will come in handy when it starts snowing again over there. Mal .
Your videos are the only ones that make me feel lazy when I'm watching you do a 2 man job on your own. I always feel like I'm standing there with a coffee in my hand uselessly. lol Almost forgot, that's a really cool old VW. I've never been a fan specifically of older VWs until watching your channel. Now I'm a fan for sure.
Great to see old truck getting some attention. I was expecting the tire to blow but it held. My brother just helped a friend pull a Karmann Ghia from an elderly ladies garage and it looks like it just came off show room floor. Lucky bugger. My first thought was eat your heart out Mustie. Oh well maybe in next life time for both of us.
Pro Tip: I used to work in mold remediation, if you preclean it with bleach, or any other cleaner: follow it up with Concrobium Mold Control which is a product sold at Home Depot/Menards that is used in the industry. It encapsulates and kills the spores, prevents regrowth, and penetrates organic materials to kill the mold filaments (mycelium) which bleach cannot. As a matter of fact mold and mildew will actually grow in bleach water, I have seen it. For a serious mold problem, and one of the best cleaners I've ever seen: Concrobium Broad Spectrum Disinfectant, it is naturally based on thymol from spanish thyme plants. Its used in the remediation industry, hospitals, and many other applications. Kills everything even HIV, Rhinovirus, E Coli, all mold strains ect. You may have to searchbonline, I've only seen that product in remediation supply stores. Thank you for excellent content *Mustie1*
I've heard hydrogen peroxide will do a good job w/o leaving anything toxic behind. Bleach can leave chlorine gas which was a WMD in WWI. I was going to tell mustie I always go to the local dollar store to buy a bathroom product that says "mildew rated" because it has been my experience that these products help the mold come off much easier than just bleach&soap. Sometimes I have used a product called Awesome which I also find concentrated at the dollar stores.
Thank you for the tip! I have a New Beetle with mold issues I will search out these products! Also, I have an Ozone generator, that was my plan to seal up the car and set the timer for 30 minutes and let er rip, lol. I'm just not sure how many times I might need to do this?
Good old fashion Lysol cleaner works well on killing mold and mildew and is cheap enough. If I am trying to remove heavy scum along with mold and mildew on metal surface never underestimate the power of a can of scrubbing bubbles tub and tile cleaner. If you use bleach don’t use ammonia that how you make chlorine gas. Take this one for what it is worth many many years ago when I worked in food service the only bleach that were were allowed to use was Clorox for wiping down stuff I was told that Clorox had been certified regarding killing pathogens etc. I never did any follow up testing but have always purchased Clorox because it had a name brand and hence some sort of quality standards compared to the generic no name bleach.
You can get Concrobium pretty much any where. You can also get a ULV Fogger (Concrobium version or other). I've used the Ozone first (nothing escapes the gas). Then the ULV Fogger (tri-jet), normal cleanup (h2o2 on hard surfaces), seal bldg mtls.
Yay the double cab is finally back! We've been asking for it give us the double cab! Listen to the people they have spoken. In all seriousness VW bay window double cab is a rare bird and we would love to see finish it.
@@joolwing awesome Ralph welcome! We have a lot of cool stuff you have some catching up to do. We were release videos every Thursday. And we've been restoring a 1965 Volkswagen Beetle. Thanks again!
What a great video. So many times I said the exact thing you said. But meh. I really enjoyed this one. You really bring out the kid in me rebuilding my dads engine in his 69 chevy after my mom ran it out of oil not knowing what the oil light was. I want to say I was in 5th grade at the time. we towed it home and pulled the engine and did the rebuild kit on it over the weekend. to the point was that I anticipated what my dad needed for a wrench/ socket/ whatever. I was just very happy to be there experiencing the moment. Thanks.
Coffees on, *Mustie1* on, perfect morning. Love the early uploads, I always get moving on my projects after every sunday video. I think I am motivated by it knowing he has made literally thousands of excellent videos over the years, and that I need to get on my shit.
Next time you run across some mold or mildew; you may want to try a product called Jomax. You can get it at Home Depot or Lowe's. You mix about an ounce of it with the bleach and water in your mist bottle. The mold will disappear right in front of your eyes, even as you spray it. Most importantly, however; it kills the spores in the mold and mildew so that you don't inadvertently breathe it. I ran across this product before I retired from real estate management. It really does help to keep one from becoming ill from coming into contact with the spores. And the side benefit; it makes clean up a snap. If I remember correctly it comes in 2 versions. Interior and exterior. The exterior being the much stronger. A man of your skills probably already knows about it. I just thought I would mention it for those that don't. You can never be too safe around mold.
I am so happy for you that you have the the success that follows your talent and work, to provide you with such a nice large shop. space to spread out, and get organized is very valuable. projects get more attention this way, and they stay safe and more secure, and everyone is better off for it. I also love seeing the few "new " things you choose to have, i.e. spray bottles, and straps. with your skills breathing life back into old things, comes the trap of frugality. sometimes, it just can't be fixed. don't think of those times as failures. I am so happy for your current situation, and I hope that you realize that you have accomplished a very high goal, and a high level of success.
You're the Bob Ross of restoration. When I see the inside of your double cab, it brings back nightmares of my old VW Camper from a time when there was no Internet to learn from. I had to use a Chilton book. You make it look so easy now.
Is that Musties1's father??? I was sure Mustie1 was engineered and created in an old dusty garage using spare VW bus parts, I thought, that's why he has all those little bottles of oil and a vat of WD40, to oil all his joints...🤣🤣🤣 Great video, as always!!!
It is Sunday morning, need to take a break and watch the rest later....But we will hit the like button now....should of hit it when we first clicked on the video....... Have a super day everyone!
More oak tree, man that was cool. Just to think those old trees were plentiful when the Europeans first arrived. The American continent must of been a magical place.
This is getting scary Mustie. I have done the same thing with the exact same blue funnel for years only I just grab a small stick or something laying in my shop to provide the air escape hole. I keep seeing you do things I do and I thought I was so original but seeing you use the exact same head lamp or hand tool is weird. Comforting but weird. 8^)
GREAT to see the Double Cab out again! I have missed this project. Glad WE are working on it again. You just let me know anytime I can turn a steering wheel or hold something for you, I'm your guy. Edit: also great to see your Dad again. Has been quite a few years. In one video we got to see the old garage, the Double Cab, and your Dad. I have to go back and re-watch a bunch of your early vids for the nostalgia now!
When you left off this project, I seem to remember you still didn’t have the rear window of the cab. Did you ever find one? If not, I’m sure a glass company could make one, it’s only a flat piece of glass right?
Well heck. I thought I had seen just about everything. Never seen a Man glue a brake shoe pad back on the shoe. Your the Man Mustie ! And a brave Man at that. I Liked,Shared,Added to playlists. Keep the videos coming ! All my best.
I love how when you first started pulling it off the trailer, the stop light was red. Then as you attempted again it was green and changed to yellow. Like it was saying "CAUTION! This is sketchy as f!@#"

I used to have a lot of fun around 1970-71 riding around in my friend's VW double cab Transporter. Ultimate Hippie wagon.
Is that a diode tire, only rolls in one direction?
Haha very clever!
lol yea the peak inverse voltage is 100mph
Anyone agree there is never a boring video to found on this channel? thank you!.
I wish my problems were no greater than a stuck wheel.
Hi. I'm from the Philippines. Really like your videos! More power!
Now you going to have a flat spot on your tire ....🤣
what a lovely old boy your dad is , chilled and easy going .
And the crowd goes wild. ;-)
Are those dollies from Harbor Freight?
nope, Tennesee, cally DOLLY PARTONS
Glad to see/heard from your Pops ! it runs great still..no rust !!!
Woohoo! Mustie1 while I sit bored out of my mind @ laundromat.
Exactly the same thing I'm doing. Perfect company, an empty laundromat and a Mustie1 video...
@@vbcassidy648 Aaah the joys of divorce. No one to tell me what goes in hot, warm, cold... No one to look at me cross-eyed when the whole world stops cuz I gotta new Mustie1 video to watch either! Yup, shirts & socks b'damned... y'alls just gonna hafta wait to be folded! p.s. See if I care if you do wrinkle, (like she always said you would) if I don't get you out of the dryer immediately... Mustie1's on dammit!
M1, thank you for this channel and all of the mechanical knowledge you share. On another level, you show what one man can do with tools, knowledge, and focus.
I'm surprised you didn't just powerwash it outside before bringing in and bleaching.
yes, I did think you were kidding about gluing the pad on the shoe again! Thought at least you'd use epoxy... :)
Did they every make a double cab of this vintage (or earlier or later?) with back door on left side as well?

Your pop's Vanagon is looking sweet!
yea just put one of those AC industries disc brake kits on the front and be done with it.
(Cleans the points, and ba da bing!) There's nothing like the sound of a VW engine running. Sounds healthy too! I always wanted one to power my air compressor.
DOUBLE TROUBLE. I got dibs if you ever want to part with him. Seriously.
