...when Mustie1 caught his gas bottle on fire & calmly blows it out like his 1st Birthday candle 😎
I think it wasn't first time that happened so he was so calm :D
"Ah, just a normal work day" :D
@@malpekc702 I was @#$%*$ myself behind the camera , I would of tossed that lit bottle and burned the backyard down.
When I saw Mustie hook the jumper pack to what appears to be 20 gauge or so wire, I was absolutely certain that wire was going to catch fire especially with extended cranking. How it didn't is a mystery to me. Not to mention that fact that it is in 2 unsoldered crimped pieces!
his whole reaction to the entire engine fire was "meh...." LOL
the slow motion at the end was great. Didn't even flinch
That burst of fire musty didnt even blink his eyes😅
He's so used to setting fire to old bugs by now, stuff like that doesn't affect him anymore.
Mustie1 is hardcore 😂🔥
pyromechaniac!
Just the mad professor laughing
And he just calmly blew out the flame on his fuel bottle.
The raucous laughter after that first genuine start is what makes this channel great. No fake crap, just a couple of fellas having fun.
"Mid 90's" ... My brain: That's just a couple years ago!.
I used to work in residential HVAC up until 2015 and I remember talking to people about the age of their furnaces and air conditioners. To older people,(70+) The year 2000 was basically yesterday.
@@classicpontiac37 anyone around 40......
Yeah,I'm 35 and graduated high school in 2003. 2010 seems like yesterday to me lol.

Oh the damn dog barking in the background! Not sure if Mustie's mention of it made it more noticeable. Ooofa.
Im yelling at the dog right now.
I was getting ready to yell at MY neighbors about that, lol
Doggy needs an antifreeze icey
First time I heard it, I backed the video up and played it again to make sure it wasn't coming from outside my house.
@@WTFIsThisGuyDoing233 😅
HaHa- " Hey there's a VW in dry garage in Arizona, let's haul it back to the NE and leave it outside so it can rust away."
I think that guy thinks he is actually saving them by collecting them and leaving them all outside in NE.
@@janetd5121 Back in the late 60's I had a repair shop and automotive machine shop. In those days the hippies were running up and down I-5 in those VW buses. About once a week we would get one towed in with the motor burned up- it was usually a case of a shade tree rebuild where they had forgotten to place the air deflectors between the cylinders before putting the heads on. This guy's appearance and demeanor reminds me of those days.
I thought that too🤦♂️😁
If he just got that from AZ a few months ago
I’m a f-ing astronaut.
@@youraveragejoe7644 Strange, the WGBH sticker in the window is a Boston station.
I had a 1972 bug with a 1600cc AE engine. 250 hp. 4wheel disc brakes. Dual side draft Delortos 40mm. Loved that car
My father had a 1960 with the same paint color. The two of you are a hoot! Enjoy it when the two of you get together.
You can tell he is a seasoned mechanic, Because there was no jumping, flinching, or words like
" O Shit ". When fire flew out of the carb and the fuel bottle was burning.
Mustie 1 kept his composure, being cool and nonchalant having a simple gesture to the burning bottle like blowing out a birthday candle. LMAO 😹😹😹😹👍👍
RANDALLOLOGY You can tell a seasoned mechanic by the singed eyebrows.
I'm pretty YOU would jump if fire ball flew into your fac.
"Cool under fire", as Mustie casually blows out the flame on his fuel bottle. I suspect he's the guy who throws the hand grenade back at the enemy.
Your an inspiration !
Just fired up my blown 77 Corvette after 14 years of sitting ... poured some atf down the carbs and spark plug holes ... after diagnosing a rusty ground she fired right up . It too had a mouse living in it . Idles nice except for some major blow by on the right head .
That dog sounds like a drill sargeant lol
Had a 63 VW when I was 17. The only car you can drive without brakes and a clutch. Speed shifting and use the parking brake to make that final stop. Push start if the battery went dead. And with the flat bottom, you could just slide across any mud holes or snowbank. The only drawback, the heater sucked in the winter!
''WILL IT RUN abandoned 26 years ago. mouse infested vw bug''
Is it an air cooled VW? - yes it is.
Is it Mustie 1 tinkering with it? - yes it is.
Of course it will run. Nothing that a bit of a fire in the carb won't sort out.
Yes you know when he gets anything it'll run
My neighbors dog used to bark at me every time I was outside. I started taking a couple firecrackers out with me and as soon as he barked I would set one off and he would run back in the doggy door. I didn't throw it at him or act threatening in any way, just made a really loud noise. It only took 4 or 5 times before he learned not to bark at me. Probably wouldn't work on the dog in this video though, he's just barking because he's bored.
had a cat that would go over and slap the neighbours dog if it barked with its face through the fence.
My buddy Dave, when we were in college, was renting a room in a house in Florida, there was a big German Shephard next door. The dog was left out about 12 hours a day in a fenced in area of the driveway, right outside my buddy's window. Bark bark bark barking all the damn time. Dave thought about it, did the thing with the firecrackers but each time he preceded the pyrotechnics with a "Shhh".. after 4 or 5 iterations he only had to say "Shhh.."
I like how Mustie laughs every time an engine starts for the first time in many years.
Junkyard digs did a bronco. When they got it running, mice started falling out the tail pipe after getting killed by the fumes.
Yea I saw that too
Oh yes! I thought about Mustie's "mice coming out on fire" when that happened
@@GemmaLB oh does he have a mouse
I watched that one too 👍
Gassed the little f’ers to death 😆
@ChinaNorthAirguns 🤣🤣
I will say: I hate with every fibre of my being working at another guy's place with his tools. It's like wearing another guy's used underwear ICK. They don't have the right tools, not in the right place, and not the right kind. For eg: mixing up imperial with metric wrenches and sockets. Or you ask for a hammer and they bring out one of those dollar store tubular steel ones that will bend when you use it to pry a bottle cap off.
@Moto-Resto, LLC haha, the wife's unmentionables, that's it!
Sounds like you need a better class of friends.
@@zepplinc20 has nothing to do with class my friend. If you earn your living in your shop and you go to a guy who doesn't, you can tell. I can stand at my work bench and grab a tool off the rack without even looking. Can't do that at someone else's place.
Rust, flames, an evicted mouse and that evil genius cackle - classic Mustie!!
Got an extra hour of sleep thanks to the clocks rolling back. Wake up to see a new Mustie1 video in the vintage Mustie1 style working on an old VW. And even better it's one of Jason's project hoopties. I say all she needs is maybe some new plugs, rebuild that carb, drop in new points/condenser and maybe adjust the diming and valves while you're at it. She's a runner!
Also, Jason. I noticed you wait till Jen is out of the house before you sneak Darren over to play! lol!
Working on the floor.
Five minutes in...
My knees and back are already aching for you Mustie...
😔
I’m sitting on the back porch, and my back is hurting from thinking about it! I know what you mean.
That's why God gave the Germans Beetle's... made them get on their knees and pray it runs... lol
I could feel my hip slipping out of joint just watching 😂
And I think Mustie has had Back surgery once already.
Right ? All I could think was uh-uh, nope. Where's my rolly chair at....
For all the mentions of mice Mustie's done, this was the first one I remember actually seeing.
Mustie1 narrowly avoids having his privates pelted by mice flambé in this vid!
Small as VW exhaust pipes are, mice could get in and out of them!
They are tiny inside their relatively voluminous pelts.

Daisy must be in heat.
Dawg lol
Sounds like my old Hound Max! Brought back memories! He only barked when I came home!
If it has already been mentioned, I missed it. But that Motorola regulator and alternator were factory (not aftermarket) VW equipment @ 1973 or 74. Maybe even later. I have had a few cars so equipped.
Thanks Mustie for the great content, from a long time VW and small engine owner/builder/wrench that keeps on learning everyday.

@Mustie1 you are an inspiration to a young man like me, always learning from your videos, if the facility was available I would happily donate cash to your channel. All the best and keep well during these crazy times.
Keep your money and start your own business there buddy. I think mustie would agree
reminds me of when me and my son went to buy a non running VW bay campervan, we looked it seemed OK for the money, my son and seller went into the sellers house to do the deal and sign over the rego papers, buy the time they had come back out i had crawled under the rear, ignition switched on, with a bit of wire started the engine so the sellers mouth opened wide saying - ITS RUNNING- lol so my son drove it home 60 miles no problems stopping for petrol (gas) on the way but left it running..lol.. Happy days, was a broken wire from ignition switch to starter solenoid yet a garage quoted the seller hundreds of ££s for work rewiring it, soon fixed at home the next day..LOL.. Thanks for the video Mustie, many more please.. Ian- UK.

so i just stumbled on your channel and this seems like a fun one to watch while i play my games and i learn things while i listen and and occasionally watch. i like seeing old things brought back to life and finding a use after many years.
Those engines are gonna work even after an apocalipse strike. If it has compresion, spark and some gas,it will run. It can't be more simpler then that and they don't make 'em like in those days no more....saddly.
Great video Mustie, another bug is turned back from the deads.
Arizona doesn't necessarily mean "safe" when it comes to rust-free carriages and frameworks, as the sand there gets into EVERYTHING, and it's very acidic, so the slightest moisture will do a worse job than salt ever could. To add to this, parts of Arizona DO still have their roads salted in the winter, so depending which PART of the state it came from, that could also be a concern. Also, even if not the case, just a slight bit of snow can add the necessary humidity to get that acid working on the metal breakdown. Perhaps not in this particular case, but I just wouldn't assume "safe" just because it's from Arizona, due to the contents of the sand there.
(In case anyone watching this thinks that's a good indicator for buying/bidding sight unseen, remember: you want a classic beetle to be a 50/50 car at most, not something you can't USE and enjoy!)
Now... Texas or eastern New Mexico? You're fine. :-p Desert sand will STILL get in everywhere, but at least it won't destroy the metal in the process, and can be cleaned out.
Absolutely true. Plus it's an old VW, It was going to rust no matter what.
imagine after 30 years people do this with civics
There are lots of early '90s Civics around -- in various states of oxidization.
@@MichaelSteeves Have to consider water cooling then!
Early Civics are funky little cars but not on a par with VWs!
Thirty years from now, people will be rescueing and "enhancing" Leafs, Volts, Bolts, CMaxes, Teslas and the like. Totally different skill set, sigh!

Again I truly enjoyed your video and the knowledge that you passed along about how to check out points and the rotor and how they take and use a meter thank you again and you too Jason for coughing up a vehicle for him to work on
My pleasure Ed....When Mustie1 stops over and fires up a Bug you've owned for months in a 1/2 hour....then says " You wanna put that lift together you've had since summer as well ?" 🤣.
Sorry, I would have called the city on the house with the dog barking all the time. That's gotta be nuts at night when you try to sleep.

This brings back memories of me and my uncle working on vws,we would use the front end and back end for dunebuggies, that is if the body was in bad shape. Those days of working on them are over tho,he passed away 11 years ago,so now I just work on atvs, dirtbikes, mowers, chainsaws and weedeaters, thanks for bringing back the memories man it was awesome, and I'm definitely subbed to ya
It may have come from AZ. But due to the rust and the WGBH sticker in the window. It ran around New England a bit.
Yeah that's a Boston car, that wgbh sticker is as old as the car, if it was from Arizona it would be rusty on top, not all over the whole car

Yes to both 😆
GREAT SHOW...like a Circus. Sound, Smoke, Fire and Mice....ALL IN ONE!
Brilliant ! another Mustie1 classic, those mice running out - very amusing :-). If you have two jumper packs where they are both a bit sick, you can try a trick where you can power the ignition coil separately from the starter motor. Just make sure that there are not any other positive wires on the coil other than the second jumper pack because that will draw some current back to the starter which could over heat the small wires. When the engine cranks slowly with the one pack, the coil will have its own separate 12 volts from the second pack, which will give a much more healthy spark because the voltage powering the coil won’t sink as you crank the engine. The earths can be clamped together of course, just make sure only the positive wire from the second jumper pack is the only wire on the positive side of the coil...
Seriously that dog barking constantly was so bloody irritating! Are the owners useless?
