It's pretty well established that Klipsch went all-out on the output within the formfactor, but that they accepted a certain level of portchuffing at the bottom to get there. I think the DN12 is a more elegant design, but the Klipsch is much more efficient with its port
I have the Dn12, the Dn8, i also have the Monolith m-15 v2 and M-10 v2. My favourite is the Dn12! Blends seamlessly with the speakers and has a very natural frequency response. No port chuffing is also a big plus.
I love your videos broe, particularly that prices are in the familiar rand currency. Anyway, subwoofers, just like all speakers, sound better over time. Have RP 1400SW, now sound far better than when new.
Discovered your channel a month ago, really enjoy your videos. The RP-1600 SW is readily available in the USA. I checked Amazon and Crutchfield. $1439 US.
Placement matters. I've moved subs a foot and changed the dynamics like it was a different beast. Just observing, I would say the first test had the Klipsch further from the wall also more open on the left
I did the same thing to my 14s and what a difference. I was initially very disappointed. Moved both a foot apart from their initial position and that made a huge difference.
Man, if i were overseas trying to get this stuff, i would be DIYing as much as possible! Spending so much to ship 75% wood box you could easily build yourself, and better.
Thanks so much for this vid Bro. Love your channel. I already have a Polk HTS-12, was decided to get a RP-1200 as my second sub. Looking to add more punch/couch shaking effect, but since you said the DN12 got more of this "punch" now i´m also looking at a DN12. Can get the RP-1200 for $ 1350 or the DN12 for $1200.
Already got a Polk HTS12. Nice to hear you mention it and the HTS-10 on the Midrange Subwoofer Shootout video. Got a very small room (4mx6m), 04 subs will be overkill, but maybe 02 RP1200 or 02 DN12. You are in the Big Subwoofers League, but will be awesome to have your opinion/shootout on a 10" inch subs video, probably the best sellers subs worldwide. Thanks again for all your time, love, and hard work on the channel/vids @@homecinemaking397
I was in doubt here within Rp1200 and DN12. Almost same price today here. I’m coming from an old Klipsch 10” 500/1000w with passive radiator and i never was fond of going ported after that experience becouse i felt exactly that rock breaking, chest thumping with the passive radiator klipsch used to sell and abandoned. I wish i could demo them but i cannot. Will need to order on-line unfortunately and only trust on what specialists say (wich by the way it always help me a lot). Without listening, i think i’ll trust on what you sayd about the DN12. It’s a pitty becouse all my other speakers are klipsch copper colored exposed, but i think the SW is the one you may change without remorse or disturbing/coloring the rest.
DN 12 plays hard and makes my head explode, it's like ear torture, I think RP 1200 is softer, more listenable and more durable. I prefer RP 1200. Definitive models blow my mind in terms of character.
Hello. Great videos. They are very informative and have made me understand quite a bit about subwoofers and speakers. I’m in the process of building my home theatre and am stumped on which subwoofer to get. I was thinking about the Klipsch RP-1600-SW, thinking the bigger the better, but now I’m not so sure, especially after watching this video and seeing what the THX-1200 could do. Not sure if to go with 2 16” or 2 of those THX-1200’s? Or would you recommend the SVS PB16-Ultra?
@@homecinemaking397 Yes, Klipsch is designing their bookshelf speakers to use with a sub. I like that more than tower speaker, I don‘t want to have so much bass and with a subwoofer this is more configurable.
Hey, have you already tested RP-1400SW along with RP-1200SW (movies and/or music)? If it's yes, how did they perform? Knob got in too much different points to match the volume?
@@homecinemaking397 I need some kind of advice... I am shopping for a pair of subs, to blend with music as well as a HT setup. Here I can found the SDSi 15, RP1200, for half price of RP1600. Should I go double SDSi, since you said its more punchy? Or double RP1200 or single RP1600?
I'd like to get matching subs, or a bigger single one, but my Polk RM-10 (from my original 5.1 system) stacked on top of my Klipsch R-120SW gives me enough bass in my 13x16 (7.2.4) bedroom/HT. Now, if I ever get a dedicated room....
I wish that Definitive Technology would have added more rms wattage to the DN12 and DN15. I dislike the fact that they kept all models at 500watts rms. You should get your hands on some Monoprice Monolith subs? Can you?
you do know the reason why there was ZERO port chuffing on that bass test section was because you were playing very high above their box tuning ..klipsch has lowered the box tuning of those subwoofers ..they are probably tuned to 20hz ...so ..unless you play frequencies near 20hz ..you'll get ZERO chuff ...
Calypso subwoofers do not destroy anything. Those subwoofers and speakers are not the best ones in the world. No, they’re just priced the certain way and made a certain way. I’m getting that BOSE vibe about Clips speakers

I don’t know why, doesn’t make any sense to me but it (Klipsch) just doesn’t do it for me. Parts of songs when I’m normally blow away with bass are anticlimactic. @@homecinemaking397 I’ve never even heard the DN12, if anything I’m comparing it to that old ass DT00031. Thing is older, lighter, only 150$ and I like it exponentially more than I did the rp-1000sw.

Yay thank you for the review. Any thoughts on this compared to the Monolith Monoprice 12" ? Anyone ?
We dont get the Monoprice so unfortunately cant comment.
How would you say these both compares to Speakercraft HRSi-12?
