Hi Dunns, I do not want to put a downer on your blog but I think something that is often overlooked with "cost of emigrating to NZ" videos is the indirect costs. One that impacted me quite significantly is the fact that in NZ you are unable to purchase a house until you have permanent residence. I believe the quickest you can get this is about 2 years (depending of income, qualifications etc) at $700/week rent this means $72k+ will go to rent and not to paying off a mortgage in addition to this house prices move quickly in NZ. They have stabilized now, but from the time of my arrival to the time I got PR a standard 3-bed house went up by $200k. I am not a financial expert and do not know how to add this all up, but in how it affected me personally; the cost of what i wanted to buy went up by $200k, my deposit requirement went up by $40k, I lost $200k in capital gains, paid 2+ years of rent (the worst of this is the regular tenancy inspections (NZ version of a home invasion LOL) something i never experienced in all the houses i have rented in other countries). This is definitely something that people emigrating to NZ need to consider. And also based on the past few years what NZ promises immigrants today can change very quickly - you could arrive thinking you are in the bracket for PR in 2 years time, but be cautious that as soon as there is a hint that resident/citizen jobs are at risk the requirements can change. So while NZ is the land of milk and honey, it is also not, it is just a country with a different set of issues with some things better and some things worse
Hi Matthew, what a great contribution. A matter that definitely needs more attention and a detailed video. As home owners back in SA renting is definitely a challenge and something we are not accustom to, the inspections are definitely quite invasive and something that I think new entrants need to be aware of. On the financial side the loss of that 200k capital gain must really sting, it is a massive indirect cost for those who are ready to purchase right away on arrival and you are dead right that people need to be aware of this when they arrive. Thank you for watching and sharing your experience.
@@wirigumbie5798 Furniture, crockery, cutlery etc is cheap in New Zealand in comparison to SA. In NZ money the $13,871 is not too bad. Flights to SA from here would normally be about half of that, plus Visas, etc.. But it sounds a lot in SA rand! NZ salary wise, you would reap that money back relatively quickly.
Hi Sonestha. That sounds like a challenging situation. Its definitely something to decide on as a family. There are many pros and many cons. South Africa is amazing and very difficult to leave. Wishing you all the best.
@Dunn Family so how is South Africa in general is life easy or are inflation making life harder ? Where do you lot come from within South Africa ? Also how is the South African and other African communities in New Zealand ?
Hey, South Africans is an amazing country! The SARB seems to have inflation mostly under control and better days are coming on the cost of living side of things. Here is a large African presence in NZ and we all get along very well and support one another. Thanks for watching
I have found that the majority of South Africans lose their colour prejudice against other SA people when in NZ. But most of them moan about New Zealanders, and their prejudice against South Africans. A lot of SA immigrants in the past treated NZ as a short cut into Australia. Personally I much prefer NZ to Aus, but do miss SA. The good news is there is plenty of good Boerewors (Kiwis love it too) and beef biltong. Hate to say this guys, but getting out of SA is like climbing out of a well financially, R100 000 is less than NZ$10 000, or about 12 weeks salary for me after Tax. When I moved in 2002 it cost us R25 000 for an immigration agent, but probably R50 000 for the move. As for house costs in Auckland you are looking at NZ$800 000 + for 3 bed house, so about R8 000 000 +. And most houses here would be considered shacks in SA.

Hi Sandra. Yes we did wait; this is mainly why it was so expensive. We did not want to take the risk. Our agent needed our visas in order to book the flight. I’m not sure how this works if you book your flight privately.

@@Dunnstakenz Thank you. My family and I began our immigration process before covid and then lock down happened, but we are going forward with the process.
It costs a good few hundred thousand Rand or more, unless like some who come with nothing, sponging off everyone else and expecting everyone to set up their home - not a good way to start off here and Kiwis frown up on it as Saffas are not refugees. Do your homework first, not fun being stranded in a foreign country with no back up support etc.
Absolutely, the costs do really add up. Would not advise anyone to make the move without the proper financial resources. We are all set up now and very happy. Thank you for watching.

Why was is so expensive for the unabridged birth certificates via the service provider?
Is that with apostile and such?
Still sounds like a lot
That’s correct, it was quite pricey for sure
It was quite expensive, I believe the cost relates to how the expedite the documents. We got it back within a week
Hi just a quick question has adults my wife an myself do we need Unabridged birth certificates to emigrate to New Zealand. I know my 2 kids need Unabridged birth certificates an we need Unabridged marriage certificate.
Yes my wife and I needed ours. Hope you guys are well!
Kia Ora mense. did yall have to do an English test?
Hi Luca. No an English test was not required for our application.
Hi thanks very informative 👍
There are some bad Sth Africans out there...just like NZ'ers. You two are good people ...good fortunes.
Thank you John. We appreciate your well wishes.
@@Dunnstakenz I have 2 doctors whom keep me honest. We have Maori/Tahitian blood but the native NZ ers are not supportive of us...they'll support sportspeople and cultural....not my kids who are only doctors...as they say...medical drs at that. We do not want them in our team anymore.
Welcome to Aotearoa NZ.
Thank you so much!
Did you wait for your visa's to be approved before booking flights?
Hi Sandra. Yes we did wait; this is mainly why it was so expensive. We did not want to take the risk. Our agent needed our visas in order to book the flight. I’m not sure how this works if you book your flight privately.
Hi guys, I'm from South Africa, Eastern Cape and I am interested in relocating to New Zealand for work purposes so can I please ask for your assistance as to which companies to apply to and how do I go about it
Hi there! We are very excited for you and wish you well. Unfortunately we can’t advise on those areas as we are not experts in the relocation process. We simply share our experience and our process. See our other videos for some tips. We wish you well!
@@Dunnstakenz Ok thank you so much it's just that I've been trying to apply but with no luck. I'll keep on trying though

Hello! Thank you for the informative video. Also a registered CA, looking to make a move.
Just a question regarding the unabridged certificates. Was it a requirement to obtain an unabridged birth certificate even though you have a valid ID?
I’m about to apply for our unabridged marriage certificate but it would be good to know if we need unabridged birth certificates as well to apply in one go 🙂
Thank you!
Hi there Monique. Yes you will need your unabridged birth certificate. All the best with your application. 😆
Yes you do.
What type of visa did u go on?
The Accredited Employer Work Visa
Does the certificates expire?
Which certificates?
ok we will eat some biltong and play nice after the World Cup 🙄😂 you are free to wear an All Black jersey my friends 🙂
🤣🤣you will never catch us with an all blacks jersey. Looking forward to sharing some biltong together though. Thank you for watching and engaging.
Hi guys, thank you for being so informative. I would like to know if an IELTS test is required when immigrating to NZ.
Hi there. Thank you for your support 🙂 - For our visa (AEWV, partners work visa and visitors visa), the IELTS was not a requirement.
@@Dunnstakenz Thank you. My family and I began our immigration process before covid and then lock down happened, but we are going forward with the process.
Great! All the best with the application! It’s a good decision!
You guys are gonna come back to this Country ..i tell. you .Theres no place like South Africa in the entire world...unfortunately..most of you only realise when you are in the deep end of other countries and it is 5x more expensive to come back
Everything you said about SA, we are very happy here though. Thanks for watching.
Not being a downer here but why NZ why not Europe Australia cheaper and warmer l don't get it lm Kiwi so don't know any difference about cost of thing's compared to overseas,to me it is what it is immigrant's I don't understand your choice to come here then you post on how expensive it is 😅
Immigrants leave their homes for various reasons. In out case we want the best life for our family. You are fortunate to live here and never have to concern yourself with having to move away from home. Cost of living is an issue here and those who will follow us must know it so they make informed decisions. Thanks for watching.
Your rugby team to win b'tween NZ & SA?🤔🤔🤔
We’re bias so no objective answers here haha🤣Springboks forever❤️💚💛
@@Dunnstakenz you can take a S. African outta his country, but you can't take South Africa outta him.
@@Frank-rx8ch 🤣well said.
Why would you want to leave the beautiful south Africa, but if you stay in NZ watch out for the Zombie sheep, and enjoy the fish and chips
South Africa is beautiful, indeed.
Thanks for watching Chris.
South African fish n chips is way better, Chris.
We are all going around trying to find a place that sells slap chips. 🤣
all that glitters z not gold remember that but best luck
Absolutely Clifford, we never left in pursuit of any gold, South Africa is gold and where our hearts remain. Like we said each country has its own challenges. Thank you for watching.
Did you had to apply for an International Qualification Assessment?
