You made me smile today. Seeing someone showing wonderful ways to practice the three R's of being green to help reduce pollution instead of just throwing things away is something I love seeing. You have given me an idea for making part of the roof for my shop. I would like to ask one thing have you ever tried melting candy wrappers into your plastics. When I was in the Navy we had massive machines that created large disk by melting all the plastics to include candy wrappers together into large disk about the size of stepping stones. Sadly those just go into landfills.
You guys still inspire me to do my own. So far all I have are still plastic bottles of one color but my bottlecaps amount is slowly rising. ...and there's also copious amount of bottlecaps/bottles that I'm not sure if they're HDPE or not (as in they lack the recycle symbol with number), I'm keeping those, but not planning to use them yet, at least until my respirator arrives.
After watching your videos for a while now makes me want to try to make something. I'm a tool and die maker and have some great ideas what to make with the sheets in the sheet press you just made and the church I go to want a new bench outside.
Have you guys ever thought of using heat tape a router and aluminum sheets on the top and bottom of your molds ( the molds you really like ) to essentially make a giant one step panini press?
Absolutely marvelous, that is like my dream coffee table, you guys are so talented with hdpe, and if it wasn’t for you guys I wouldn’t have realized how useful hdpe is to make guitar picks! but I just thought, Could you build an acoustic concert ukulele from HDPE? The neck being made from a different color than the body, of course adding nickel frets, then 4 tuning machines! That would be quite an interesting challenge, I know it’s possible since a ukulele has nylgut strings which cause a lot less tension and if someone can build a HDPE steel string guitar successfully and not have anything bend, then I bet it would work, but if the ukulele HDPE neck is too difficult or nailing in the frets is too hard you could just make an acoustic body for the ukulele neck prebuilt!
Instead of attaching reinforcing beams underneath, you could build the beams into the original mold using more plywood. Screw down some squares (or rectangles) of wood leaving a beam's width gap between the blocks of wood. When the HDPE is compressed it should fill the trenches left by the gaps between the wood blocks giving you the reinforcement you are looking for. Bring the blocks to about 3cm from the edge of the mold and you should get a reinforced edge on the table as well as the appearance of a much thicker table. And if you know where the legs will go, you could build in mounting blocks for those.
Thanks for your coffee table video. I'm considering using recycled plastic to make the benchtops and cupboards in a campervan. Your coffee table slab would be perfect. Thank you! Della (from Australia)
This actually looks real good, like the Earth. I need a hubby with tools to make this with, lol. I could buy tools myself but I wouldn’t use it much, I could borrow tools perhaps, though i’d need a shed or place to actually work in too, the memories would be sweet too. Rambling. Lol.
Hi from Vancouver Island, Canada (west). I was searching for building ideas for croquet mallet heads and found your videos. What an awesome way to make something that is unique each time you melt plastic. This just wild! I can see me dumpster diving aka tip diving in my future. J. A. H. - Just another hobby! And my wife is rolling her eyes as I explained the significance of type 2 plastic. If you have not done so, show us how to build the shredder! Canadian High Five, guys.
I think you guys might benefit for larger projects like this to get one of those heated tables that candy makers use. I think that would save you so so so much time and headaches.
I have just stumbled onto your content and I am loving this! Im in South Africa, there is a big plastic problem and a huge shortage of power here. As an example, I am in the Eastern Cape, we have load shedding for 2-4 hours at a time for 2-3 times per day, meaning that during load shedding all power is turned off. So doing this in a place like this wouldn't work with the power requirements. I did hear you say however that you only need to achieve 150-180c to get this right. That means that most of the wood based stoves would work to melt down the plastic.
Your solution is the solar oven. I was thinking of making myself a tool shed and gardening in my garden. The price is just ridiculous... Minimum $ 1000 if I buy in store (To earn $1000 with my job, I have to work 2 weeks full time). So, what do I need? (Sorry, I translate from French to English). At the end of my reasoning, I'm pretty sure I'll have to buy some parts, including wood beams, because there is a constraint on the length of the plastic parts (too long, it's curved) But i can do a lot a things for low cost (roof, floor, external recovery). Good news: it already exists in Africa: ruclips.net/video/ckWqR1JD158/видео.html At the end of this video, we see the simplest technique, they add sand to the mixture and do not require expensive tools. So you can make parts of different sizes WITHOUT HYDRAULIC PRESS, no need for extruder and possibility to make wooden molds easily be even. By keeping the method as simple as possible, people become able to exchange time for building materials OR money. Purchasing power is decreasing in Canada, for several years, many people have been doing projects themselves. Like furniture with transport pallets. It would be amazing to be able to make bricks or flooring with my neighbors and our recycling. Seriously, I'm going to try this summer behind my house. If you combine this technique with a solar lens (which gives more than 1000 degrees of heat) ruclips.net/video/CT_9EyOCivU/видео.html (i don't find this XXL product right now in Canada, juste smaller...) (Or you write on Google : how to build solar oven). ruclips.net/video/fYH5cAGYS3Y/видео.html You can even bake bread with mirrors... www.youtube.com/@neoloco4536/videos Probably lens with mirrors could be very nice and dangerous hahaha. And if you think about it, glass is made with sand, so instead of using fine sand (which is also becoming rare) it would be interesting to make a mixture of plastic and glass. Glass sand like plastic... ruclips.net/video/o6nCqExB0-o/видео.html For the assembly of the roof dans walls, probably I can use this technique (with tiles 1 foot by 1 foot, or more, and 1 centimeter for thickness) ruclips.net/video/TqtoR0yitUY/видео.html It might be interesting to check what can be produced in terms of quantity of materials versus how long it takes a unit to make. If the plastic and glass is free, or less than wood/metal (wash it, and cut it before using it is not). The solar oven and metal/wood molds are not too (it could be cheap Chinese cake molds). Is it an ecological solution? I do not think that plastic is ecological, even recycled: it ends up degrading and ends up in micro particles (plankton eats plastic, fish eats plankton, big fish eats small fish = human eats fish : same for cows).... If I want to reduce the number of steps as much as possible, It is necessary to provide some molds to make beams without cutting them... Unless you want to cut glass/plastic. It will also be necessary to pay attention to the length of the beams ... We see in this video that 12 feet could bend (curve: really, not sure with this translation!!). ruclips.net/video/h7OJMLlTfvg/видео.html
I had a sudden realisation that we got showed your channel about 5 years ago in an assembly at school, I went on to study environment engineering so this is incredibly topical! Was a school in Christchurch so very close to home!
Wowww!!! That’s incredible! Your builds are constantly going better and better, congrats! I have a doubt about this in particular… how does it behave with impacts? A marble table would definitely break, and this??.. thanks for your awesome videos!
I’m going to bet that somewhere in that shop you have a wood router. I would bet a felt pad with some double sided carpet tape could be used to prevent scratching the plastic surface and a round over bit would make your edging procedure much faster. Really like this project. Thanks guys.
such an astonishing piece of furniture thank you)) you could also think about reinforcing your crafts with internal metal rods or mesh to make them sturdier and reduce the use of raw materials
Entertaining videos!! The sandwich press idea is probably my lightbulb moment here.. great idea for small applications To keep the plastic hot, perhaps look into a 2nd hand candy making heat table.. they’re large enough to handle a substantial amount of material.. and might get up to the temps you’re after.. or at least keep it hot enough to buy you the time you need to stretch/mix and then you can look into melting plastic in a pot en bulk on a stove or electric hot plate and pour into large moulds or pour onto the hot table to create the patterns you want.. (or extrude into a temp controlled pot and keep it molten longer.. depends on what’s more time and energy efficient.) ovens do chew quite a bit of power.. treat the plastic like hot sugar.. just a thought.. Also creating the moulds out of metal and heating them (perhaps with hot water) might also assist in easier shaping.. but then you’re starting to raise energy demands and material costs..
This table arrived well packaged and on time. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxn94T8Mu1iMnsLCMNOI9srXSsLkI4JXKW Like another reviewer advised, I pulled everything out and made sure everything was included (everything was!). I built it alone and it took me about an hour. The color is great and for the price the lift part works well. As others have mentioned, it’s not the smoothest opening/closing, but it works. The screws do show, but I plan to order white sticker covers if that bothers us too much. Really happy with this table! UPDATE: it’s been over a year since we got this coffee table and we still love it! It gets HEAVY use as our dining table, foot rest, and school desk. Over time, the opening and closing mechanism has gotten smoother. I added a new photo with the white screw cover stickers. They blend in perfectly and make it look a little cleaner. 100% recommend!!!
I love the result! I immediately thought, "What if you made a chair?" Obviously a thicker sheet would be best. But when the flat sheet was done, reheat it at the halfway mark and bend it to 90 degrees. I think you could build a heater similar to the panini press but it would be a narrow band about 4 inches wide and as long as the sheet is wide. (4" x 24") Anyway, you could also make benches and stools with thicker sheets, and maybe even a skateboard deck?
You should build a hopper fed set of insulated heated rollers to soften and heat the hdpe in a couple stages and compress the plastic removing air into a single continuous sheet which can then be stored in a large warming oven, rolled, or stacked, or folded for various designs. If you have a large enough warming oven you could store the mold in there while processing the plastic and load the plastic straight in. So really two projects: A large well insulated oven with heater and thermostat to keep the hdpe
Two 4x8 vacuum panels (good to 1000F+), a 12" gap, a wire mesh floor to raise the work piece off the insulation and gap the heat elements, insulation/structure around the sides with a door at one end, and you could keep warm/soft and have a dozen 2"x4"x8' plastic beam molds production style regardless of how you process the plastic
loving this idea and the result. I was looking at how to turn my scrap 3d printing filament into new filament and all the good methods are way to pricy for me but I can do it your way and make something out of it !
Damn man. Amazing! Well done!! Have you considered building a larger scale metal ‘hot plate’ (for a lack of a better word). Ie large metal plate/frame with perhaps multiple elements to allow you to melt various large volume batches of plastic?
Since you are doing something eco-friendly, it should be a more energy-saving process. I wonder if a big-sized mirror-surfaced satellite dish can be used to melt plastic at least for the initial process by using direct sunlight? Incredible videos, thanks. I wish I would have a workplace like you guys.
Instead of doubling the thickness of the complete table top, you could also increase it locally to mount the legs directly to the material. Let me know if you want me to draw something out for you guys.
That's what I'm thinking also. I'm going to work on a similar project using this idea. Naturally, either the top or bottom of the mild will have deep ride that will end up being the attachment point and give the finished product more rigidity
I really appreciate what y'all do an want to do things such as repurpose plastic at my home. Since our town doesn't recycle ♻️. How can I shred my plastics I can find machines
Super inspired by you guys to start melting some plastic. Thanks for the videos. Would it be possible to place metal reinforcement rods inside when you press the hot plastic?
Did you guys try melting plastic and pressing onto plywood yet? If the edges are cut at an angle, and some holes are added into the plywood surface touching the plastic, you theoretically won’t need glue right? I might try this too as soon as I get my concrete mold set up.
Hi Bros, great video. Has i went thru the vid i remenber to make some kind of tile, roof covering, wall covering sheets, etc... I just build a container workshop for wood hollow boards and want to recicle as much as i can. Thanks Guys
I bet you could make a massive custom "panini-press" using some steel plate and old oven heating elements. Even using the existing oven control boards to control the temp.
Hi Guys am form South Africa and would like to coordinate with you in recycling of plastic. Its a war zone here in South Africa because of plastic hence I feel that I can try and be a game changer in recycling of all types of plastics. Please i need to join forces with you guys.
Any thoughts on a different technique using a conventional oven and dumping all your plastic into a large steel baking sheet then another to squish from above and using scrap steel (brake rotors example) to weigh down the top pan. You'll need to add stops to keep the pan from squeezing it all out. Large batch will need long melt times to ensure even melting and lower temperature to prevent burning.
Would love to see a recreation of a famous furniture piece but the main bulk replaced by the recycled plastic but still has some of the other features to keep it looking similar. Something simple looking but not easy like an Artek chair.
I've seen videos of plastic (HDPE) welding,,, how big of a "sheet" do you think you could get? And if you was to get a sheet,, say, 10' x 5' at 1/4" thickness,, how would you suggest pressing it into a shaped mold? Oh,, and are you seeing many air bubbles?
interesting re-use of plastic. re final smoothing... instead of the card scraper, how about an iron? Iron it mostly smooth, then just polish it? Will an iron come the the proper temperature to 'work' the surface smooth without melting or sticking?
Excellent video. I was thinking about how you may be able to get around acquiring another oven to amke thicker panels. Could you make another mass of melted plastic, dump that on top of the first panel and then press that? It wouldn't save any time for one panel but you may be able to make several smaller panels to line the bottome of the mould and then basically fuese them together. Just a thought.
That was verry nice and lovely to see I chalenge you to make a kids play house you can make the beems and walls easy now its just to shape and cut it puting tour bilding skills to the test♡ think it would be the first long lasting play house made from recycled plastick so not adding to the plastick out there or in land fill becuse shouldn't brak easy as other plastick ones!

Esse certamente é um dos vídeos mais satisfatórios que vi nos últimos tempos. ❤
Shampoo and douchegel bottles are a great source of of hdpe. They add up quick.
@@baronvonlimbourgh1716 “shower gel” - in English we have repurposed the French word for shower and it does not mean the same… 😂❤
After watching your videos for a while now makes me want to try to make something. I'm a tool and die maker and have some great ideas what to make with the sheets in the sheet press you just made and the church I go to want a new bench outside.
hi Friends that table looks like a map, great job¡
Have you guys ever thought of using heat tape a router and aluminum sheets on the top and bottom of your molds ( the molds you really like ) to essentially make a giant one step panini press?
Absolutely marvelous, that is like my dream coffee table, you guys are so talented with hdpe, and if it wasn’t for you guys I wouldn’t have realized how useful hdpe is to make guitar picks!
but I just thought,
Could you build an acoustic concert ukulele from HDPE?
The neck being made from a different color than the body, of course adding nickel frets, then 4 tuning machines!
That would be quite an interesting challenge, I know it’s possible since a ukulele has nylgut strings which cause a lot less tension and if someone can build a HDPE steel string guitar successfully and not have anything bend, then I bet it would work, but if the ukulele HDPE neck is too difficult or nailing in the frets is too hard you could just make an acoustic body for the ukulele neck prebuilt!
I bet they could, injection molded plastic ukuleles have been a thing forever. Making the mold would probably be the hard part.
Looking great guys and the new space is going to be fab!
Your onto something here. So many possibilities. Keep it up
Instead of attaching reinforcing beams underneath, you could build the beams into the original mold using more plywood.
Hey guys! I actually work for Octopus!! Im so glad to hear about us here!!
awesome!
Great stuff guys!! The colours of the mold look like its the planet 🌍 nice choice of colours!!
Love the videos! A tool that could be handy is a woodworking plane creates an even surface and maybe easier on the hands.
I'll be asleep by premiere time, but looking forward to this!
Thanks for your coffee table video. I'm considering using recycled plastic to make the benchtops and cupboards in a campervan. Your coffee table slab would be perfect. Thank you! Della (from Australia)
Awesome result. Great to see all that plastic being put to a more permanent use.
Farken Wild!!!!! I love this!
It's a good thing to recycle plastic so that it stays out of the ocean and landfill. It looks good to me and keep up the good work.
This actually looks real good, like the Earth. I need a hubby with tools to make this with, lol. I could buy tools myself but I wouldn’t use it much, I could borrow tools perhaps, though i’d need a shed or place to actually work in too, the memories would be sweet too. Rambling. Lol.
You should definitely give it a go!
That’s awesome! Happy HDPE hunting!
Brilliant! Loved this!
that would make a pretty counter top. looking very nice
It looks like earth from space! Would love one of these in the garage or barn lounge areas haha! Wicked job
If you combine this technique with a solar lens (which gives more than 1000 degrees of heat) ruclips.net/video/CT_9EyOCivU/видео.html (i don't find this XXL product right now in Canada, juste smaller...) (Or you write on Google : how to build solar oven). ruclips.net/video/fYH5cAGYS3Y/видео.html
You can even bake bread with mirrors... www.youtube.com/@neoloco4536/videos Probably lens with mirrors could be very nice and dangerous hahaha.
And if you think about it, glass is made with sand, so instead of using fine sand (which is also becoming rare) it would be interesting to make a mixture of plastic and glass. Glass sand like plastic... ruclips.net/video/o6nCqExB0-o/видео.html
For the assembly of the roof dans walls, probably I can use this technique (with tiles 1 foot by 1 foot, or more, and 1 centimeter for thickness) ruclips.net/video/TqtoR0yitUY/видео.html
It might be interesting to check what can be produced in terms of quantity of materials versus how long it takes a unit to make.
Love it, so retro and using waist plastic, how good is that 👌😍
Oh man I love this project and the color. Can’t wait for more big projects!!
Lo mejor del video es ver lo bien que se llevan esos hermanos 👍🏻
I had a sudden realisation that we got showed your channel about 5 years ago in an assembly at school, I went on to study environment engineering so this is incredibly topical! Was a school in Christchurch so very close to home!
Twynham by any chance? If so, we both went there!
@@BrothersMake It was indeed, I knew they mentioned something like that! Looking forward to seeing what projects you've got coming!
Awesome! Thanks 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Thanks guys.
such an astonishing piece of furniture
thank you))
you could also think about reinforcing your crafts with internal metal rods or mesh to make them sturdier and reduce the use of raw materials
Entertaining videos!!
The sandwich press idea is probably my lightbulb moment here.. great idea for small applications
To keep the plastic hot, perhaps look into a 2nd hand candy making heat table.. they’re large enough to handle a substantial amount of material.. and might get up to the temps you’re after.. or at least keep it hot enough to buy you the time you need to stretch/mix
and then you can look into melting plastic in a pot en bulk on a stove or electric hot plate and pour into large moulds or pour onto the hot table to create the patterns you want..
Very nice n cool projects. Awesome job.
Great ideas, we'll add them to the list for sure!
Beautiful, I like the table top,
Damn man. Amazing! Well done!! Have you considered building a larger scale metal ‘hot plate’ (for a lack of a better word). Ie large metal plate/frame with perhaps multiple elements to allow you to melt various large volume batches of plastic?
Sweet! Really sweet!
What a cool project! Kudos Guys
OMG so much work.
Soo good ! soo creative ! love them videos !
The end look is kinda like the earth :)
And I love your channel guys, i wish I were your brother too 😆❤
Instead of doubling the thickness of the complete table top, you could also increase it locally to mount the legs directly to the material. Let me know if you want me to draw something out for you guys.
That's what I'm thinking also. I'm going to work on a similar project using this idea. Naturally, either the top or bottom of the mild will have deep ride that will end up being the attachment point and give the finished product more rigidity
Vocês é os melhores que eu já vi parabéns felicidades
❤thanx for everything you know about all equipment name and many more I like your all video ❤
This is really cool! I’ll have to try this type of mold
It looks awesome! The shelves in the "plastic library" would look great if they were in fact made of recycled plastic hahaha
That’s such a great idea!
Thought on the oven tray capacity. You could use an oven roaster. They are deep and some have large, removable trays. And you can easily set the temp.
I really appreciate what y'all do an want to do things such as repurpose plastic at my home. Since our town doesn't recycle ♻️. How can I shred my plastics I can find machines
Класс, вы большие молодцы! Привет вам из Донецка!
Wawww cool Batik Optik 🙂👍
Hi Bros, great video. Has i went thru the vid i remenber to make some kind of tile, roof covering, wall covering sheets, etc... I just build a container workshop for wood hollow boards and want to recicle as much as i can. Thanks Guys
Que show!! nunca tinha visto essa maneira de reciclar materiais, ideia incrível , parabéns
Nice plastic sheet. 👍
Thanks!
Love it guys I really do .
I bet you could make a massive custom "panini-press" using some steel plate and old oven heating elements. Even using the existing oven control boards to control the temp.
Perfect project Experience 👌 ❤
Very kind of you to say!
Question: how would you scale this down to do smaller, thinner sheets? E.g. sheets 1/16" (1.5 mm) thick and maybe 20 mm x 20 mm?
Looks awesome!
Hi Guys am form South Africa and would like to coordinate with you in recycling of plastic. Its a war zone here in South Africa because of plastic hence I feel that I can try and be a game changer in recycling of all types of plastics. Please i need to join forces with you guys.
Hi Geoff, I am also from SA, these guys are awesome. Might like to get in touch if you still interested.
Amo lo que hacen saludos desde Colombia siguiendo sus pasos con lo que puedo conseguir :)
Very Cool!
the way they work with plastic reminds me of the way candy makers handle candy on those heated tables
Thank you for sharing great job!
interesting re-use of plastic. re final smoothing... instead of the card scraper, how about an iron? Iron it mostly smooth, then just polish it? Will an iron come the the proper temperature to 'work' the surface smooth without melting or sticking?
Excellent video. I was thinking about how you may be able to get around acquiring another oven to amke thicker panels. Could you make another mass of melted plastic, dump that on top of the first panel and then press that? It wouldn't save any time for one panel but you may be able to make several smaller panels to line the bottome of the mould and then basically fuese them together. Just a thought.
Really cool video like aways, ever you guys tried to make a face book ou notebook out of PEAD plastic ?
What is PEAD? Not heard of that before!
@@BrothersMake From what i could find, PEAD is the portuguese acronym to HDPE.
@@BrothersMake wo it's HDPE but in Portuguese, this is how is whiting in Brasil and others South America country's
Good jobs brother 👏
That was verry nice and lovely to see I chalenge you to make a kids play house you can make the beems and walls easy now its just to shape and cut it puting tour bilding skills to the test♡ think it would be the first long lasting play house made from recycled plastick so not adding to the plastick out there or in land fill becuse shouldn't brak easy as other plastick ones!
The pattern kinda reminds me of a world map
Do you have any videos on trying to shape a flat piece into a curved piece, such as a car fender etc? Thanks!
So cool!
Good idea 💡
Me (suddenly imagination) : what brothers make is doing why they dont make a big table made of recycled hdpe .
