I retired on January 10th of this year and I'm loving every minute of it. I am so thankful to be able to retire at 60.

I retired in 2018, from healthcare. I use to live in PS for 15 years had a home in Rancho Mirage. ... Now I reside in Michigan, own a home free and clear, and visit PS as often as I can. I miss having a gay community outside my front door.. Plus Im single.... I am gardening, traveling, and relaxing.... Think about moving back
Hi Robert, you sound like you have a very, very nice retirement life, but I know what you mean. Living in a very gay friendly community Right on our doorstep was one of the main reasons we moved to Palm Springs. 😄👍
I’m not gay but sure had fun in my youth with a few. We’d go out dancing a lot and laugh. Plus, if I found someone attractive gays are able to have radar if a guy is gay.
I have ten more years! When I watch your videos I see myself retired and hanging out by the pool in the Palm Springs area. Thank you for your videos. They keep my dream alive!

I retired 7 years at 65 worked at home depot and after I got my diagnosis of stage four cancer in 2014 I went into remission by 2015 and went back to work till 2017 on my 65th birthday . I'm still battling the cancer which has returned several times but it's under control. So I guess you could say I'm just glad to be here and enjoy life as much as I can. I enjoy your channel as well keep on keeping on 👍

I’m 60 & my partner is 63. He retired at 50 yrs old from law enforcement and I retired early from insurance sales. It didn’t take us long to get used to the retired life. We can do what we want when we want. We live in Rancho Mirage and love retirement.

I look forward to my daily afternoon nap at around 2:00 pm. Just laying down is heavenly, total peace and relaxation. I was controlled by the clock for decades and now, other than my nap, I try to avoid anything that is scheduled such as classes many people take after retirement.
I agree, Europa. The only appointments I can’t get out of now our doctors appointments. But luckily, there aren’t too many of those. 😄 thanks for sharing. 👍
Yes, i retired April 1, 2020 and never looked back. I retired at 62 1/2. As with you i cant believe how the time flies. My favorite thing is being my own boss now. No more timetables or people telling me what i have to do or where i have to be at. I vounteer at the community garden, neighborhood park and the foodbank.

Hi Mr. Steve, that's an interesting list. I love it when you walk Palm 🌴 Springs neighborhoods. I retired in 2018 at 59 years old. The first year I didn't like it because I missed my job. However, I've gotten over it and now love being retired. I like going to brunch, lunch, walking, watching TV, and watching your channel. I retired a bit early (I turned 65 in April). I've had the privilege of watching my 2 year old grandson since he was 12 weeks old. It was a total joy, but now since he's 2 1/2, he's in preschool 5 days a week. I like the fact that now I don't have to rush every morning. I'm an early bird (up by 4:30, or 5). I enjoy the solitude of the morning.
I'm with you. Love that I can wear loungwear all day. It's so much more comfortable.
We've had a brutally hot summer here in PA, buy yesterday the heat broke, and I was free to walk whenever I wanted to. When I was working, I'd get up at 4:30, and walk then. Or go to the gym after work, which was awful!Another thing, I don't have to put makeup on if I don't want to.
I can food shop early in the morning, and get my errands done.
I'm so glad that you are feeling better after Covid. The fatigue is definitely the worst.

I retired early at 58. I was laid off of a horrible job so it was a huge relief to not have to go back to work again. I love NOT waking up at 5AM every morning, driving in traffic to & from work. I don't really get bored (no kids) but keep myself busy with doing whatever I want to do or not. It's the absolutely best thing in the world to not have to report to an employer. The younger kids need to start saving money, stop wasting it on restaurants, the newest gadgets etc. And being retired you don't need to wear anything but casual clothes and flip flops! Steve, When I retired I gave bags of clothes to the Salvation Army. I also stopped dying my hair. Gray hair is fine by me and I save money.

I love that I can make my own schedule. To avoid crowds I usually stay around home on the weekends and go out during the week when most people are working. FYI when your camera overheated it was making strange noises
Hi B, we do the same thing to avoid the crowds. As for that buzzing in the background, I almost mentioned that the noise was the cicadas. They can be very loud and noisy in August especially. 😄👍
P.s. We have a lot of cicadas here too, Steve. Noisiest in August, but I kinda like it.
I've been retired for almost 8 years! I love, love, love retirement! One time I sent my boss (who I did not like very much, lol!) a gif of a performing seal balancing a ball on it's nose! I knew I was going to retire in the near future and I was at the point where I just didn't care what he thought at all. In fact upper management used to call me the performer because they could always count on me to get the job done. But one of my favorite things about retirement is that I don't have to "perform" for anyone ever again. I performed for 42 years for all kinds of people and now my time is my time. I can do whatever I want when I want. Or I can do absolutely nothing. It is pure freedom! Like you said you can take naps, you don't have to dress up anymore. I especially love that I can see the sunshine everyday out my window or be outside under the sun instead of being closed up in an huge grey dismal concrete block of an office. I earned this retirement and I am enjoying every single minute of it! I highly recommend it!

Hi. Retirement???? What's that? Oh. I almost forgot that time. 1994...30 years ago. Los angels METRO 25 years... Now? I love my home, U Tube over TV, and top of the list at my age, still able to play the organ I still have in my home . Who knows when that will end? I was a Model Railroad fan. Belonged to a gay GAYERS model train club in LA after retirement. Still have some of my trains setting around to please me. And I love birds to feed and give water in this HOT spot in America. Have flowers to water every morning. Day's go very fast. I say.. prepare for a long time after retirement and staying healthy. And .loosing lots of friends.

I became disabled because I had a 47 pound ovarian cyst that ruined my back and hips when I was 50. The Dr had said I was getting fat! I’ve been thin my whole life. Red flag! Hence double hip replacement. But the Double hip replacement didn’t come till about 4-5 years after the cyst was removed. One day while I was at work I just couldn’t walk it hurt so bad. Drs were treating it as sciatica nerve pain before the pain got so bad. Didn’t realize how much damage that thing caused. I can walk around the house good and short distances. Walmart if I don’t have a basket to push I’d get stuck in the middle of the store. I don’t use the electric carts. My brain tells me I can do that long walking but my hips say umm no. I enjoy just plain “Me” time. Do what I want. If I don’t want to do something...fine! It’s awesome. 💞
So sorry to hear that you had to go through such an ordeal like that! 😩 I’m glad you are enjoying your retirement anyway. And I agree, sometimes just me time, doing nothing, is the best. 😄👍
Hi Steve good video. Always like to hear what you have to say. I’ve started to decorate for fall. My friend talked me into it so I put my pumpkin 🎃 patch out so far and scarecrows. I like your honesty and yard. Now I’ll take a nap I’m old!!! 🤣👍🥱😴❤
lol the only bad thing about retirement is that time just flies by so fast! 😳 I can’t believe it’s already almost Halloween. I think Lowes and Home Depot have had their Halloween decorations up for a month already. 😳 thanks for sharing and enjoy your nap Linda! 😄👍
Your funny Steve, Rudolph the red-nosed chin. Lol.... I just turned 65 at the beginning of this month and have been retired since November of 2012 due to health conditions. If there hadn't been 😊 when I had my total hip surgery on my right side, I had planned on working for at least another 10 years, but sadly it just wasn't in the cards for me. I do try and get up and walk around as much as I can. After taking my pain pill, I get very sleepy so I think I will lie down and nap for about an hour or two. I try to do odd jobs around the house like maintenance, cleaning, doing the laundry and if I feel like it, I will go food shopping with the wife. I enjoy going out with her to the dollar store etc. Unfortunately, I can not sit or stand for very long because the pain shoots down my leg from my hip area to my foot and the pain is sometimes very excruciating.The pain is so bad at night, that I have to wait for my pain pill to kick in before it allows me to go to sleep. So I am quite limited to what I can do anymore. I enjoy building things and putting things together and working out in the yard in my vegetable garden whenever I can. I also love working on my Halloween Village from Lemax and Dept. 56. I also love keeping the house clean and helping my wife with the dishes , etc. So those are just some of the things I enjoy doing as long as my pain allows me to. I loved hearing about your list, Steve. It was also very interesting. I do thank the Lord for allowing me to still get around on my own. Sorry, Steve for being a bit long winded. Take care my friend. One last thing. I just wanted to say how much I truly enjoy your videos. Well, I guess it's time for my nap. Lol...Take care ,Steve.

Whoops, that one got away from me. I can do what I want when I want. There's time for anything. My friends except for a couple still work. So they're telling me that they don't have a lot of time to get together. They're tired and I'm ready to go. Like you said. I wait for them to tell me when they're available. Been catching up on reading. I had planned on that. And exercise in the form of walking and swimming. Had planned to do that too when I retired. So guess I do have at least 5 things. 😊 Bottom line is its been a freeing experience for me. My experience is similar to yours. Except for the shaving thing. Lol. Since I don't grow facial hair. Thankfully. I don't even like to shave my legs. 😂

I retired in June of 2023. My favorite things about retirement is of course not working. Being able to nap is great. Forgetting what day it is. Not feeling rushed to get things done. Being able to spend time with my 85 year old dad. Not having to deal with rush hour traffic. Having time to enjoy my hobbies. Not having to get dressed up and being able to wear comfortable clothes is really nice. Having time to get things done around the house. Being able to run errands, make appointments without having to worry about getting permission to take time off work.

Hi Steve, retired at 66. Had to in order to get full retirement. Or I would have done it at 65. So it was a year in April. Still new to it all kinda. I don't know if I have 5 things, but I do agree that its great not working. Not having to check in anywhere. Except when I have a doctor's appointment. I can sleep in any time. But I don't really take naps
Yes, now if we could just figure out a way to get rid of the doctor appointments, it would be perfect! 😄👍
Hi Steve, I'm looking to possibly move/retire to the PS area and can't seem to get an honest answer from anyone as to why properties in Cathedral City are typically so much less expensive than its neighboring cities. Any thoughts on that as a long-time area resident? Thanks! Love the videos!
Hi Craig, just from my experience over the years, it seems like Cathedral city, Desert, Hot Springs, Dallas, Palms, and Indio were all more working class neighborhoods. So prices were typically lower because this is where all the workers lived. You might want to check online with the different police stations for the more affordable cities. I think they have a much higher crime rate as well. That said, Palm Springs also has a very high crime rate. I think it’s mostly because we have so many tourist and we have so many homes that are empty because many are just second homes and criminals are pretty smart when it comes to being opportunistic. Also, Palm Springs is just more famous than the other cities. Lots of celebrity history here. So homes can sell for premium just because of its reputation. Most people around the world have heard upon Springs. Almost no one has heard of Cathedral city. So I think fame is part of the price tag. So that’s just my observation and opinion. There might be other reasons that I’m not aware of. I’m not sure if that will help you at all, but good luck in your search. 😄👍

I retired in December of last year. I do know I like not having to function on someone's clock other than my own. I've returned to being a night owl which i figured would happen. I was a cashier and I still miss interacting with customers and coworkers but my knees, hips, and lower back said no more. I do set an alarm for 11am-noon. And yes being able to do what I want to do or don't want to do is good. 😊

Steve, occasionally check your dress clothes to make sure you can still fit in them! I was getting dressed to go to an event, only to find out that my slacks didn’t fit! Retirement put on a few pounds.😂

Retired March this year. Loving the freedom. Also, I love the pool view. When can I visit 😂 Naps are cool too. Oh, and I don't have a beard ☺️

I am partially retired!!! I work 2 to 3 days a week and love it !!! It gets me up, take a shower, put on some make-up and be around people and also make a little money!!!

Hi Steve! I've been retired for almost 4 years now! I have been a New York City public school teacher for over 35 years and enjoy my life. I was so blessed to be a Teacher and mold and develop the minds of young people, but it is a blessing to retire and enjoy my life. My habits resemble yours, but I enjoy having lunch and watching your beautiful videos. I stopped watching the news during lunchtime, but your relaxing style and voice make my lunchtime pleasurable, so keep doing your excellent video work.

Oh man you are preaching to the choir lol. I more or less had to retire because my post-polio syndrome got worse and worse as the years went by. I had a very easy job for the last 10 years up until about 5 years ago, I was a private chef in Palm Beach for a couple and I worked about 15 hours a week for full-time pay and it was great but unfortunately they both passed away and I haven't been able to replace that gig. My friends that are retired and I talk about how we love taking naps lol, , when we're not talking about our doctor's appointments. But my partner is 71 and I'm 69 and we love it overall. After having four single family homes over the years we bought a condo in a 55 plus community which I probably told you in the past already lol, but we have no condo commandos and we love it. We live right near Wilton Manors in Florida so we have a gay community right nearby and visit it pretty much weekly and we go out to breakfast 2 to 3 times a week. We are both on social security and we live within our budget but we live comfortably. Overall we love retirement. By the way, I started drawing when I became retired and was awful at first but I slowly improved and shocked myself and I've gotten pretty good. I've sold my things to several restaurants and quite a few t-shirts and also sell tote bags with my art on amazon, so that was something I never expected. You finally have the time to maybe discover yourself when you're retired. And write too long comments. Lol. Glad you guys are enjoying retirement too.

I moved to Rancho Mirage 5 years ago from north of LA. I'm not retired but working from home is pretty close to it. No more office attire, makeup, or commuting.

I think your beard would come in darker than most people your age...and would look really great! ❤ You're lucky you can grow a thick one. Challenge: Grow one and see how many votes for with or without...before and after. Ps. You might have had a bearded 'nasty' in your childhood etc. that put you off beards.

I agree with 4 out of 5........don't have to worry about shaving my face !!!!! My #1 is not having to wake up to the jarring sound of an alarm clock waking me up at 6am for work or getting my kids off to school. Good morning/afternoon/evening from Akron!!!

Yayyy! I retired 5 years ago too 🥳, in June 2019 at age 62. Looovve it! The best thing for me is not having to go to work! (Did not love my job) And I’m a nap person, too… almost daily 😌

Am retired and we lived in mallorca for 10 years and came back to Scotland to see our granddaughter growing up. retired can be good or bad it is be good for us. Thanks again for your video steve love from Scotland 🏴

I didn't retire. I became disabled from a medical condition I have. MY five favorite things are some the same as yours. Not having to go work, not having to dress for work. Being able to stay up late if I want. Doing errands during the week when everyone else is at work. Being able to do whatever I want whenever I want to. Love your videos and you have a beautiful pool. You and Jim take care.

I’ve been retired for 3 & I don’t miss the Houston traffic. I clean more & prepare better meals now. Nap time is great. I still have a side hustle, selling fashions on eBay 👍😻. Walking in this heat is awful🥵. I never understood that song. 🤔. Its like karma, too bad dad.

ME TOO. five years in this past March. naps are the bomb....not everyday.....but still. I can work in the garden when I want, get UP when I want. when I retired , I BURNED all my scrubs.

I didn't try the retirement thing again till two years ago at age 72. So, this is my third attempt at retiring. I think this one will stick LOLOL. I LOVE sleeping as late as I want; and I do sleep a lot. LOLOL. Gary shocked me when he retired. I thought not working would drive him crazy, but he took to it like a duck to water. LOLOL.

If I had your backyard, I would add a stationary bike. I noticed several on Craig’s list. No one seems to take them, when they move. Set up under an umbrella 🏖
Stationary bikes are great 👍🏻. To hot here in Florida to ride one outside.
Hi Tex, that’s something I never even thought about, but I like that idea. Right now I still prefer to walk in the neighborhood. But if it ever gets to a point where I can’t do that I might get one of those stationary bikes. It wouldn’t work in the summer, but the rest of the year would be perfect. Thanks for the idea. 😄👍
I only retired 2 months ago. Napping is definitely a benefit and a pleasure - though I do feel a bit concerned that I'm sleeping away valuable time. I still feel I'm adjusting so too early to have a top five benefits list. Certainly, not having to spend time in the company of people I don't like or don't want to spend time around is a major plus! Thanks for sharing yours.

Steve as being recently retired ( a few months), I haven’t thought about my top five, but I can respond to your list. I guess I’m like Jim, we only have one in common: the ability to exercise more. I have certainly taken advantage of that too, I’ve lost 20 lbs. in retirement! I would add that although I rarely nap, the quality of my sleep has improved and that’s probably due to no job related work stress anymore! Thanks for sharing, 🌴🌵👍

Oh Wow, being retired is Wonderful! I worked 36 years in a very stressful job, sometimes I wondered if I would ever make it through, but I did and I was so blessed that where I was employed allowed you to have full retirement after 30 years, keep you insurance at the same rate as employees when you retired until age 65, plus I had a pension fund I contributed into with my employer, finally I also had a 491K with my job.
My favorite things about retirement:
Not having to jump up at the crack of dawn and rush every day
Not having to battle traffic and crazy drivers for 45 minutes just to get to work.
Not rushing to find a good parking spot so I didn’t have to walk a half mile just to get to my office.
Not having to contend with petty office drama every day
Getting to sleep in if I’ve experienced a restless night and haven’t slept very well.
I haven’t worn a pair of pantyhose in years! Love 💕 that. LOL 😂
Being able to take a trip and not coming back to 500 voicemails and emails at work to deal with on your first day back.
No stress and worry of changes and being moved around every day at work, wherever the management decides to reorganize a department.
I took a buyout at age 56 because I was over 50, over 30 years working there, I had no debt and we were about to get a new computer system and reorganized again for the 5th time, at my age I knew I may not lose my job but I could end up God knows where and I felt I had a target on my back because the culture made it clear they wanted us old timers out!

I totally agree! Although I don't shave, lol, I don't wear makeup unless I have to now. With that being said, I must tell you that you posted a picture of yourself once with a beard and I was and very handsome without! Overall, your five top things matched mine. The older I get, the walks get shorter, the naps a little longer and I dress up less frequently. Great video, thanks😊impressed You were very handsome!

I've been retired 15 years. My favorite thing is not having a schedule. I just live each day as it comes and go with the flow. I do what I want, when I want, how I want. It's a luxury..... 😊😊

I retired a year before you did from the postal service.
1. Going to matinee movies and getting the entire theater to myself.
2. Plenty of time for morning walks in the desert or just around my suburban neighborhood.
3. Leisure grocery shopping!
4. Thrifting.

@@theretiredlifewithsteve my husband has learned that when I go grocery shopping it’s an event. it involves first finding a cart with a cup holder, a stop at the in store Starbucks, and lots of looking up coupons on the store app, comparing labels, and moseying. Lots of moseying. I always warn him ahead of time that I am in zero hurry today. Sometimes he chooses to stay home. 😂
I retired almost 5 yrs ago too. My retirement was planned and was a complete shock to everyone. I am the first of my parents 4 children to retire, although all of us are boomers. I live in the North, so our summers are hot and short. I would have liked to move to an area that was relatively warm all yr, but that was not financially possible. I also own my home outright, and it is such a good feeling to do so. And yes, the feeling that you can do what you want, and when is GOLD IN THE BANK. No more alarm clocks, please. One of my favorite things is not having to get up in the dark in the winter time to go to work. That has always annoyed me, but living in the North it can't be helped and going out in the snow, and cold weather trying to get to work.
I am so glad I don't have to work anymore. The stress was really getting to me, and so were the people with their politics and petty differences. I thought I would never get there, I retired at age 65, as well and took Medicare, but waited to take SS until my full FRA which was 66. I trashed all of my work clothes-good riddance.

I still have 13 more years until retirement, but I recently switched to a weekend on-call nursing job. I love being free during the week and I don't really have set hours on my job. It's nice not having to set an alarm clock.

Hi Cindy, we have lots of cicadas here in the desert, especially in August. That’s what they sound like. I was going to mention it, but I forgot. I think the sound got louder, depending on the part of the yard I was sitting in. 😄👍
I retired due to illness. I love naps also. I love being able to wear leisure wear all day. I don't have to wear make-up. I don't have to keep to a schedule. I can visit with family or friends anytime.
Having said that I want to say that I hate it. I wasn't ready to retire. I was a teacher and I miss the children that I taught. I miss driving; I had to stop due of several medications. They make me sleepy and dizzy.
I am beginning to relax and enjoy. I suppose that I am slow to learn to enjoy retirement 😊

For me, overall, the knowledge that I have nothing to do and all of the time to do it is my favorite thing about retirement. Like you, not shaving and dressing in casual clothes are on my list. Not living in America anymore is in my top 5 and to round it out not having any of the corporate politics/political indoctrination shoved down my throat anymore. 🤪
I agree, corporate politics is the worst. 😩 right up there with regular politics. 😲 I still love living here in the US, but I can understand what you love Thailand so much. 😎👍

I retired at 61, 8 years ago. I did it to help my father take care of my ill mother. Then she passed away a month after retiring. But It was the best I ever did. This gave me the freedom to do anything I wanted. And this also enabled us to travel when ever we wanted.

Even though I just came out of retirement and took on a part-time job at a newly opened butcher shop. And go figure, I make all the sausage lol!
I can say taking naps is number one for me too, the other is more time for my hobbies. I started back brewing wines and beer on a small scale, even though we don't drink much it's nice as gifts and for the holidays. And hunting and fishing, Scott isn't into it but he enjoys eating what I catch.
Edit: there sure isn't many gay guys that go hunting!

Steve you were cracking me up with your different moving from 1 area to the next 🤣 well I'm happily retired. I still keep to somewhat of a schedule because of my exercising (MMD) have to start early or I lose all energy. However really do whatever I want whenever I want. Walking every day in some fashion is important to me as well as I really enjoy it. I go for long excursions sometimes. And I rest whenever I feel like it. BTW I think most men look nice with a close shaven beard 😊 blame it on all those western movies (C. eastw++d) lol anyway stay cool 😎 your friend in OH peace ✌ ☮

I was retired by a company I worked for for 15 years at age 58. The pandemic hit and at 62 I started SS. I'm now 63. Taking naps, like you, is my favorite and on your schedule. I also like working out anytime at home. And no strict schedules. I have a white beard and like beards on others as well, white beards are my favorite. I'm thinking of doing volunteer jobs helping seniors like me. I dress up for doctors appointments and grocery shopping, but not for get togethers. My partner of 31 years is 83 and he retired at age 62.
That sounds really nice, Tony. And yes, I think I am the only one on the planet right now who’s not a big fan of beards lol! 😂 thanks for sharing with us. 😄👍
1. Time to completely focus on what I want to focus on or learn or do...time! 2. no real need for clocks. 3. As a person who prefers being away from people, I can now do that all day everyday if I want! 4. the superpower of wisdom and understanding the world for the first time (frustrating in that you want to tell the younger generation what you are so sure of and, not having the same superpower or perspective, they can't and don't understand. 5.
