The idea that the last fighter could possibly be something anticlimactic due to the decision of the higher ups is a bit of a disheartening truth. And it's honestly something I had not thought about before. Whatever the last character ends up being, I hope Sakurai gets a vacation afterwards.

@@The_Holy_Wooomy Not just DLC. Did anyone think Mr. Game and Watch (Melee) Wolf (Brawl), Duck Hunt (base SSB4) and Incineroar (base Ultimate) were epic conclusions? That's why I'll be happy with whoever gets in as long as they're fun to play. I'd rather have than instead of someone who was requested but is boring to play as (like Banjo or Steve)

I haven't touched smash in quite a while, and didn't even buy the dlc (it's a great game, but I don't like competitive fighting games and have no one who wants to play casually with items and shenanigans) but this would genuinely make me pick it back up again! I don't think it's at all likely, but it would be so much fun

With regards to Sony being the “final frontier” I feel that we are still missing a Valve Rep. I would love to see a TF2 merc or Portal/Half Life represented in some way, even if it’s through a mii costume

Yes, “Ultimate” can mean “last”. In fact that’s its primary meaning! But it’s worth noting that in Japan the game is instead called “Super Smash Bros. Special”.

Also, it being the last means it is only Sakurai's last, not that Nintendo won't make a new one without his direction.

Honestly, it’s my belief that if Sakurai retires then Nintendo will port Ultimate to the next console bundling the dlc characters in and adding a new fighter pass with somewhat subpar design, but if sakurai sticks around the next smash will cut down the roster heavily.
I hope Ultimate just gets ported and gets more DLC in the future. What the game already has is perfect to build off of, rather than starting from scratch.
It’s only called “Ultimate” in the West. In Japan it’s called “Special” which doesn’t have a strong connotation of finality. Though with the way he’s handling the roster (everyone is here, multiple highly fan-requested characters, characters he meant to put in but missed their chance) it could seem like that. I think he just realizes that he can never top or do this again (all characters back) so he’s takin advantage of this one opportunity while he can. And he’s said as much in his columns.
Well Special is a title they have to the last versions of Fatal Fury games.
Special fits more than Ultimate because tbh the only thing Ultimate about the game is the stage and character roster.
Everything else....besides maybe kinda classic seems like a step backwards from older games.
Sakurai might retire, but Nintendo is going to do more.

I have one idea that could break the internet in a good way.
Picture a screen slowly scroll in up to reveal a black ground and figure standing in the setting sun. The figure is a sword wielder, slow pans to obvious fire emblem armor. Finally it cuts to the character facing the horizon turning slowly.... And it's waluigi. Holy shit. Waluigi catfished a smash invite.

I'm still hoping for some Ace Attorney representation in Smash. Phoenix Wright is a gaming icon, and recognizable to a lot of Nintendo and gaming fans even if they've never played an Ace Attorney game. I've always seen Smash as a celebration of gaming history, as well as a franchise that helps bring attention to lesser known titles and characters, so I think Phoenix Wright deserves the final slot, or, if not that, at least a Mii fighter costume.
Just imagine, Mario is on trial and his lawyer is like Piranha Plant or something. Bowser sits on the prosecution’s side. Judge is about to slam down his gavel, when suddenly the courtroom doors fly open, white light pouring in. You see Phoenix’s silhouette and hear, “OBJECTION!” And then the character splash screen pops up

I've always found it useless to predict Smash characters, especially recent ones, but even if he doesn't get in I think Crash is a likely choice. He has the perfect amount of history, recognisability, legacy, wow factor, recent popularity and prevelance on Nintendo systems to where, even though I want other characters way more, he is one of the few potential newcomers that could be justifiably argued for.
People for the most part just do it for fun.

you might think it could be crash, but most of the characters that get into smash are actually from good games, so that makes crash pretty unlikely

I foresee a few options here:
1. the last character is sakurai. All he does is sit at his computer but also he’s the most op fighter the game has ever seen
2. They never reveal the character. The mystery stretches into the end of time. Sakurai lies on his death bed surrounded by fans who just want to know what the last character is. But ultimately he passes away saying “thank you so mucha for playing my game!”
3. It’s waluigi

In terms of WTF picks, I’m pretty sure the angry birds could technically be picked.

I'm not convienced that Steve was a ground breaking or "out there" inclusion or a "meme" for that matter. His characters is popular world wide and we already have bizarre characters in the roster like Mr. Game & Watch and ROB.
Next character in Smash is Arlo. That's why he's distracting us with this video.
The blue hair is definitely there. Now, if he had also been in any Fire Emblem game, there would be no more reason to speculate.
If we get a new special Mii costume I'd like it to be another pc rep. Specifically a Gordon Freeman sword fighter replace the sword with a Crowbar and make the costume an HEV suit.

A part of me really want that last spot to be the Master Hand itself. The fact that you can play with it in only one level in WoL without the possibility to repeat it once you clear it baffles me.

Guys I just talked to my friend who’s uncle who’s on a work trip in Japan and has a coworker who’s sister is married to guy who delivers food to someone who works close to Sakurai, and I heard that it’s going to be Gex.

For the 500th time, Sakurai does not get to choose who gets in and who doesn't. Nintendo does.
@@OmegaChase1002 even by sakurais own account that's only partially true. Nintendo gave him a list of potential options, and he chose which characters from that list.
And even then, he only stated that for the first fighter's pass and not the 2nd. We know Nintendo HQ approached him about Steve but we dont know if they gave him another list of potential candidates. The fact they approached him about Steve specifically makes me suspect they didnt give him a list and he had more free reign
I'd say improbable not impossible. Anything is possible. Can't you even prove human existence beyond all doubt? Many have tried and failed. A decent fan pick to be sure but Idk if they'd like to give in the harassment that occurred when he was revealed as an assist.
I just hope there's a Zagreus mii Swordfighter skin + The unseen Ones soundtrack among the final mii skin sets
I’ve gotten the characters and the characters I didn’t know I wanted. At this point, all I can hope for is a character that will make my friends happy. :)

It sounds silly and it honestly is, but there’s been a longtime popular request for Waluigi that isn’t even ironic anymore. Doing him justice in the final last barely-catching-the-plane spot would be a great ending in my opinion
If he was revealed, I'd be very happy but also kind of frustrated because Sakurai got harassed to add Waluigi in the game and those people would end up getting what they want.

Ive been saying for years now that Ratchet and Clank would be incredible "impossible" additions to Smash. If we cant get Crash, then R&C are the next best option.

-Frisk: Now before you go saying "Frisk has no chance to get in Smash Bros the Sans mii is all we are gonna get!" there is a possible chance a Undertale character could be playable mainly being Frisk or some other Undertale character, or it could be a Deltarune character like Kris, Susie or Ralsei, Toby and Sakurai and Nintendo have a good relationship with each other as a whole and it kinda seems like something Nintendo would do to surprise fans by adding something they said was impossible to add.
-Tabuu: I feel like Tabuu could fit as the final fighter for the game, i mean we don't have a character that originally comes from Smash Bros, you could say it would be someone like Master Hand or a Primid but i feel like many fans would agree with it being Tabuu.
-Gordon Freeman: Valve is one of the companies Nintendo has not added in Smash Bros, and yeah you might say a TF2 character deserves to get in when Half-Life made Valve what they are today.
-Some wildcard pick like Robloxian or Freddy Fazbear: I kinda see this happening, it will probably be a character a lot of people said that they have no chance to appear in smash, Roblox is about the same as Minecraft and a lot of Roblox players has been wanting the Robloxian in Smash Bros for a while now, Freddy Fazbear will probably end up being a mii costume like Sans or Sakurai could turn him into a fighter by using moves from his canon games and FNAF WORLD.
-Doomguy: Yeah i know people say that Master Chief is more likely but Doom literally has every game added on the switch, and i see people say "BUT DOOM IS NOT KID FRIENDLY AND IS TOO VIOLENT TO BE IN SMASH" i mean we already got M rated characters in the game like Joker and Bayonetta, however Doom isn't that well known in Japan so i doubt he'll ever get in.
-A indie character: Nintendo really likes helping indie games and the smash community has been wanting a indie rep playable for a while.
Shantae was the ONLY character that I really wanted to be a fighter and, well... you know what happened...

When they first announced DLC pack 2, they first only showed 5 additional characters with the fake out to show a 6th character in the pack. From the very beginning, they have been hyping up this final character.

I’m still expecting this final fighter to be a whimper, rather than a bang. Everyone has their eyes all pie in the sky high, but if I know Smash fans and Smash hype cycles, this is the calm before the storm. The pride before the fall. The hype before the outrage. Don’t get me wrong, I would be happy with a crazy awesome unpredictable move, but I’m also thinking how they CAN afford any crazy licensing deal… but do they WANT to? And more over… does Game Freak not love money enough to let someone else take a turn as the final Smash DLC?
Like, my gut feeling is it has to be a Pokémon from Sword and Shield. There’s a weird lack of a new Pokémon stage in Ultimate even though they easily could have made a Gen 7 stage for like, the Battle Royale dome (anyone remember that?) and called it a day. Some may argue a lot of veteran series didn’t get new stages, but Mario and Zelda, the two tent pole franchises, did. And then with the Byleth DLC, we got a new Fire Emblem stage, and look at that, it’s one of Nintendo’s biggest series now. And oh look, Xenoblade got a new stage with a new character, and that franchise also had exploded to huge levels of success. I honestly think it’s Pokémon’s time, that we cannot go this long with a new Pokémon generation being a thing and not get a new Pokémon and a stage, since Pokémon is Pokémon, you got a million critters to make into Spirits, you have tons of new tracks to remix or port in to Smash for a new stage… I mean, come on, it’s a big new Pokémon game, they could’ve easily given the game a song from Sword and Shield to go with the Team Rocket costume, even if they’re two entirely different games… I feel Pokémon has too much to offer that Game Freak and the Pokémon Company would never ignore that kind of advertising. And if that’s the case, I would love it to be Rillaboom, because that thing is Pokémon Donkey Kong and I would love to vicariously live through a Pokémon like we got Funky Kong.
But then there’s the possibility it’s someone big… the question is what character could POSSIBLY have that kind of universal appeal to be considered the big last Smash fighter? So many communities will be disappointed if it’s not their character and I can’t fathom a character that would generate near unanimous hype, but for argument’s sake, who would I like to see that’s some impressive third party showing? Not Crash, that’s for sure. Once upon a time, maybe, but given Activision’s current situation, I do not want them anywhere near Smash… though I’d still like Crash for himself, removed from the company, so if it happens, I’d not be complaining.
But at this point, I think the most hype possible announcement would indeed be one of two options. Goku or a Sony rep, as that would be the final barrier broken down between the three major console manufacturers or breaking the final rule that was considered the most sacred and that Sakurai has stated was one of the only actual rules… and if any time that rule broke, it would be now, I think. But I think a Sony rep is more likely between the two options, and I would personally flip out over Ratchet and Clank because I recently over the past year have gotten into Ratchet and Clank from a hand me down PS3, and fell in love with the series, so I would say my personal pie in the sky wish is Ratchet and Clank.
But I’m still pretty certain our last character is going to be a Pokémon, or some other reveal that does not shake the internet and destroy Twitter like Steve did, but just be… someone that the fans are like “that’s it? That was the big mystery last fighter?” in the more calm circles and just… very angry at otherwise.

@@BlakeAtStake Yes, actually. Like, for starters, the reveal of Sora made so many people happy that I am happy by proxy. It’s just a good mood spreading and leading to more good vibes than usual. Coupled with how my expectation of a whimper than a bang was half pessimism, half I would like a Pokémon because I just have no other major wants in the roster, ending on such a major character inclusion is so much more exciting. And even beyond that, Sora looks like a lot of fun, so I’m actually for the first time since Banjo-Kazooie excited to play the next Smash DLC.
And also, I was… kind of right, in a few places. Sure, Sora’s never been strictly a Sony character, but Kingdom Hearts has the same deep roots on Sony consoles that Banjo-Kazooie has with Nintendo’s consoles, so my prediction of the most hype possible announcement wasn’t insanely off the mark.
And Twitter didn’t experience any issues to my knowledge over Sora’s inclusion, so I was right about that one.
But given I was expecting internet meltdowns and got instead someone I’ve seen largely hype and excitement for, yes, I am happy I was wrong. I’m always happy to be wrong when I’m wrong that things will be boring or subpar because that means the things are, in fact, super cool.

I’ve had a theory that some of these characters might have been requested by Sakurai himself and got Nintendo’s approval to put them in. Joker might’ve been the best example for my theory. Sakurai did an interview with Atlus because he has a lot of respect for Persona and Persona 5. Nintendo has also been getting more friendly with Atlus getting a bunch of SMT games as exclusives (SMT IV, SMT Strange Journey Redux, SMT V) so Nintendo having all of these games gave Sakurai the go ahead to put Joker in Smash. Also I should mention that Persona is a spin-off of SMT despite it being more popular.
"Master Chief Finishes The Fight!" would absolutely entertain the heck out of me, particularly as the last fighter. Crash would also be entertaining to see. But I don't even play Smash, so my opinion is pretty irrelevant here. I just enjoy watching the new character reveals. A bit sad it's almost over, as they have been some of the most entertaining reveals in gaming for me.

I dreamed the final character was a crappy claymation "horse" with the weight of bowser and faster than C Falcon, and it could only charge as an attack.

Here's my wild and crazy guess that will probably never come true. The final character could be Tabuu, the final boss from Brawl. And they could add a brand new adventure mode with his release, The Subspace Emissary 2.
I'm right there with you. Since they announced the extra 11th DLC character, I've been holding out hope that it would be somehow related to Subspace Emissary and come with a new mode. It's the longest of long shots, and almost certainly is not happening.
@@GiantButterKnife I've been hoping for Tabuu since the DLC began, lol. And if they add a more story focused single player mode, that would fix a lot of people's opinions when it comes to the weakest part of the game compared to other entries. Plus, with the final roster complete, they can add all of the characters to the story mode.

I think there are 3 possibilities
1.It's a big crowd-pleasing character
2.It's a Nintendo Character(I'm assuming a BIG Nintendo character)
3.It's a character unique to Smash bros. to end things off
These things make the most sense to me and I'm honestly excited to see what it is!
(I hope it's 2 or 3 (cause i don't like any of the top crowd-pleasing characters they are just not my style.)
Ultimate felt like a swan song and if we never get another smash game i’ll be happy! being able to play and enjoy every smash in the series from the beginning its truly been a rollercoaster ride and it was a pleasure to experience it

I've got 1 idea that sticks out pretty prominently in my head, a kirby character, More specifically a kirby villain. I remember hearing something about HAL moving away from the kirbys return to dl style of gameplay for the next game they're making, and that was a while ago. So I wouldn't be surprised if they did something cool with the villain from this new game???? Like what if they revealed the new game with the character reveal, that would be sick. This is just me indulging in heavy speculation of course, but it would be a fucking sick send off tbh.
No offence, but I think it would be truly dumb from HAL to literally announce a new game and spoil the villan bu having it as DLC i Smash, it is dumb.

It's gonna be four characters, including Wario, fighting on Final Destination/Battlefield. An Assist Trophy will spawn in the middle of the field, and Wario will pick it up. Out pops Waluigi, but instead of attacking another fighter, he attacks Wario. Then comes the splash: "Waluigi breaks out!"
