YES, TO THE THIEF! YES! That is such an amazing series from start to nearly-finish (still waiting on #6 😭). You will absolutely adore King of Attolia, it was my favorite of them all. Your description of Six of Crows sounded so much more interesting than anyone else's pitch (or even it's own blurb) that I have now boosted it straight to the top of my TBR list! Thank you!
I LOVED SIX OF CROWS! I bought the duology because my friend and I wanted to read it together, and I didn’t expect to love it so much, but I FELL IN LOVE WITH ALL OF THE CHARACTERS
sena x They mention Alina, but Leigh didn’t get in depth about it. It’s mainly focused on the Grisha that are IN the story, not the ones who are historical figures/not central to it.
Raegan! I read three dark crowns because of you and, just like you, I didn't believe I would like it that much, specially because a lot of people think it's dull (how can they think this?) BUT OMAGOD it was sooo good, it brought me out of my reading slump and put me in another one at the same time. It was such a delicious book, and can we talk about the reveal at the ending? oh well just thank you so much for talking about it over and over because if you didn't I wouldn't have picked it up and I just loved it
Yesss!!! I’m actually opposite of Regan in that contemporary YA is my thing and maybe the occasional fantasy. But after she talked about it, I thought it sounded so good so I bought it and I freaking loved it. I couldn’t wait for the sequel. I was shook. And I ordered the sequel and read it in a weekend and now I need more 😭😭😭😂😂😂
You made me read Three Dark Crowns and I cannot thank you enough lol. It was so damn amazing I really didn't think I would like it as much as I did. TOTALLY recommend!!!
I picked up Moon Called by Patrica Briggs by accident...and now I'm addicted to the series. So much so that I recently reread them in anticipation for her next book release and fell in love all over again.
One book that I definitely didn't expect to love as much as I do was the Song of Achilles. I was expecting to enjoy it, sure, but it's been over half a year since I read it and I still think about it a lot and still go onto goodreads to read over the quotes from the book and it was just so amazing I want to reread it
I bought three dark crowns and couldnt finish it. It was sooo slow, not much was happening, it was so dull and confusing and just yuck for me. So since i read on so many reviews that the ending saves it, i just spoilt it for myself. The plot twist (at the very end) is indeed interesting. But you expect all this action with the blurb and all, and it doesnt even happen in the first book. I regret buying it. It had potential but ...
My favorite unexpected book has to be the The Chaos Walking Trilogy by Patrick Ness. I got the books as a gift about a year ago and I cannot stress how much I love them, the series is probably in my top five.
I loved Zeroes by Scott Westerfield Margo Lanagan and Deborah Biancotti!!! Literal one of my favorite books! I still have to continue since it’s a trilogy!
I never expected to love Angelfall trilogy by Susanne Ee. I was bored that day and just picked it up and after that I couldn't put it down. I've read this trilogy in 2 days.
An ember in the ashes totally blew me away. It didn't sound interesting too me and wasn't planning on reading it but then I went to my local bookstore & they had a brand new copy for 5 bucks so I couldn't resist that deal. oh boy I totally fell in love with that serie and can't wait for the 3rd one to come out (one of my most anticipated books). Daughter of smoke and bone was also a big surprise for me. Geekerella was also such a surprise for me because I'm not a big fan of contemporaries and some retellings in bookform have let me down. I was like it's probably going to be an all right book but then I ended up loving it sooo much. But I believe that's it. I basically only pick up books if I'm really interested in them or they are real cheap and I heard some things about it. And most of the time I have a good idea if I will like a book (of course there are books I ended up loving way more than I expected too but thats it)
Ah! The Storied Life of AJ Fickory! YES! I now recommend that to EVERYONE now because it was the biggest surprise for me. Anne Bishops Written in Red series was an unexpected love for me. I didn't think I was gonna like it at all, but now it's one of my favorites.
I've read so many amazing books that were recommended from your channel so I can't thank you enough! I'm starting my own channel soon and can't wait!xxx
For me, The Never Hero by T. Ellery Hodges blew my mind. I picked it up in an Audible sale on the off chance and it sat in my library for about a year before I decided to try it - and it easily was my favorite book of last year and is in the top favorites I've ever read! I've never listened to a book so fast, I was manufacturing reasons to walk places to keep listening. If you are looking for recommendations, I really hope you give The Never Hero a shot. I'd love for more people to discover this book!
I loved The Storied Life of AJ Fikry! It's not my usual kind of book, I usually don't venture into non-YA fiction, but this one convinced me that I should branch out. Recommended to everyone.
I knew I was going to love SoC just because of the central plot and character descriptions lol. Anyways, this is the fifth time this week I hear someone talk about how fantastic The Thief is and I’m officially taking it as a sign to read it! Great video~
Jenny Han was unexpected for me too ☺also I was struggling with illuminae's format in the beginning but after that I flew through it and now I am obsessed
I second this so much. Every time I recommend it, I just gush about insanely but always preface with "just push past the 40 pages. They're super important, but boring while reading." It took me three tries, but it's one of my favorite series of all times.
The Foxhole Court by Nora Sakavic was the biggest unexpected favorite read. It was brilliant and fast paced and honestly one of the best trilogy i ever read. And I recommend this book to you Regan!! I really think you'll love the trilogy. I've been reccing this book to you for a while now on your videos lol
The darkest minds was one. I read it when it first came out and I hadn't heard anything about it and randomly picked it up from Walmart and was blown away. Another was girl with all the gifts. Wow was that amazing. And a more recant one was Eliza and her monsters. It came in my owlcrate and I was unsure about it. But I decided to pick it up. I don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't that. Lol. There are probably many more but those are three that come to mind. Love your videos.
i never expected to love the gunslinger. BUT HOLY DAMN I LOVE THE CHARACTERS AND THE WORLD AND THE ACTION AND MYTHOLOGY AND THE VILLAINS AND HOW EVERYTHING CONNECTS AND THE RELATIONSHIPS AND JUST EVERYTHING. I LOVE ROLAND THAT DUDE IS A BADASS!
Throne of Glass is my #1 unexpected fav. i thought it was just another over hyped series but hearing you talk so much about it made me give it a chance and theeen i ended up loving it and binged the whole series lol
for me this is the serpent king by jeff zenter. i won it in a competition and i thought it wouldn’t be for me at all cos i usually don’t really like contemporaries. but it ended up being a 5 star book for me!! it was tragic and funny and adorable and thought provoking and so beautifully written. i would definitely recommend it :)))
I love 💜💜your sweater! It's kinda loose like a blanket but has a cute pattern that makes it look put together. I fell like it's the perfect solution to those mornings where you don't want to get out of bed because you can take the comfy and cozy with you. Obsessed! Where is it from??? P.s. sry for being creepy re your sweater😂
I just finished The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender by Leslye Walton and it was really good, sad, happy, confusing.. I'm still not sure what to think about it- but I recommend it!
My most surprising book has been A Semi-Definitive List of Worst Nightmares by Krystal Sutherland. I got it for Spookathon, expecting it to be this cute, light, funny book about this girl overcoming her fears, and it was soooooo much more than that! It deals with mental illness, self harm, child abuse, and many other things. It did have light, cut, funny parts as well. It was just so well written and gave you all the feels! This is now one of my favorite books, and I can't recommend it enough!
I feel like I've had a lot of books recently that I thought I would love but ended up really not. I also sometimes don't really notice? How unexpected it is? This is a really cool idea for a video!
Loved this video. A lot of the books that suprised you also suprised me.. Especially Illuminae and AJ. I am also a huge Three Dark Crowns fan. Is Gemina as good? I haven't been able to get into it and was wondering your opinion. I am also going to check out The Theif.
Some of my all-time favorites are books that I picked up because of the hype but was kind of meh about to start with- like The Lunar Chronicles and The Girl of Fire and Thorns trilogy! I definitely think part of my love for them is linked to the excitement of having my expectations completely overturned.
I literally thought I was having a stroke or something. I had to go back and watch a few times just to make sure it was actually the video and not me having some sort of eye issues lol
An unexpected fav of mine is The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman. hi PeruseProject ! im new to your channel 👋🏽 i wanted to get into reading this year so i appreciate your book reviews very much....so thanks! i just picked up Six of Crows (i know, im super late 😅) im only like 20pgs in but i can already tell im going to love it! i was wondering if you have a suggested series’ order in which i should read Leigh Bardugos books? i apologize in advance if you already have a video on this topic 😅 and thanks again!!!! 💞
I feel like I'm the only one who isn't completely blown away by six of crows. I was scared because of the hype and I honestly can't see why everyone seems to love it so much.
What is that buzzing sound in the background? I thought there was something wrong with my speakers at first, but then I realized that this is the only channel where I can hear that sound.
This happened to me with Red Rising, I had read a lot of amazing reviews about it but reading the synopsis I thought: meh this is just like a Sci-Fi version of The Hunger Games... but the. I gave it a try and I’m so glad I did it, this series is mind-blowing and one of my favourites!!!😍😍
Hey! I also picked up The Bear and Nightingale on a whim not hearing anything about it, then I saw you picked it up a few videos ago. Have you read it yet (or anyone else in the comments)? I started it and I couldn't get through the first couple chapters and I am wondering if anyone else felt this way. The story has so much potential but for me the writing was very tiresome to get through. Thoughts?? Also I have the problem of watching videos about books instead of reading all of the books I have. Anyone else? haha I love the book tube community! :) Jinny!
I had a similar experience. I wanted to find something whimsical/fantasy to read one night, and had heard a lot about The Bear and the Nightingale, so I tried to pick it up. I couldn't get past a chapter or so. I waited awhile and tried again and forced my way through. It does pick up a bit, since I would say the main character isn't even in the first chapter or so. I could have been a bit better, and I still felt like it was slow over all, and the characters were strangely exaggerated yet shallow in depth. But, I liked the overarching story.
the biggest surprise favourite book I ever had was The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender... I expected a generic YA book with annoying romance and flimsy characters and I was BLOWN AWAY by the beautiful writing, the tragic and fascinating story, the amazing characters.... still one of my favourite books another surprise series for me was the His Fair Assassin series (Grave Mercy, etc.). I totally judged the first book by its cover when my friend recommended it to me (the cover is a pretty girl in a red dress in a dramatic pose) and thought it would again be fluffy poorly written romance-driven story, but these books are actually SO GOOD. and intense and beautiful. and the romance in them is well written so i don't even mind it. highly recommend!!
Six of Crows was an adventure for me, I hate it, than I didn't, nope yes I did and at the last minute, nope nope I love it. I now can't stop thinking about six of Crows but I determine to read the grisha verse series before reading Crooked kingdom. LOL
I'm not lying, I've read a lot of books because of your channel and don't regret any of them!!
Me too! For exemple "Night Film" and "The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender".
Yes!!! great picks!
YES, TO THE THIEF! YES! That is such an amazing series from start to nearly-finish (still waiting on #6 😭). You will absolutely adore King of Attolia, it was my favorite of them all.

I love Jenny Han too! I was skeptical about Six of Crows initially and it is 100% worth the hype, it's AMAZING!! 😍😍
Queen's thief is my fave book series and i can't wait for the next book in October
I was totally skeptical about Six of Crows too before I read it but I was blown away!
I LOVED SIX OF CROWS! I bought the duology because my friend and I wanted to read it together, and I didn’t expect to love it so much, but I FELL IN LOVE WITH ALL OF THE CHARACTERS
Jacinthia CW. I just read Shadow and Bone in the Grisha trilogy. Can I start reading Six of Crows or would I be spoiled?
sena x They mention Alina, but Leigh didn’t get in depth about it. It’s mainly focused on the Grisha that are IN the story, not the ones who are historical figures/not central to it.
Jacinthia CW Okay, thanks!
sena x guys if i remember correctly in the book they do spoil how alina's story ends!
kaz and inej!
I love the sweater you're wearing omfg
Hey Reagan, it's guys
* *gets notification that Regan has published a new video* *
* *drops all responsibilities and gets ready for the ride* *

I just finished one dark throne and I can’t stop crying 😭😭
I'm getting it for christmas, im too excited

The thief sounds so good :) To the TBR pile it goes XD
Great video, as always
The Keeper of the Lost Cities series definitely belongs on my list! Just finished the second book and was blown away!
I really agree with Jenny Han, Illuminae, Six of Crows, and Three Dark Crowns! They were all super addicting and wonderful!!
I had the same thing with the ‘the summer I turned pretty’ series, I loved it
I️ was really hesitant about reading Illuminae because I️ didn’t want to be disappointed and now it’s my favorite book
Thank you for all of the suggestions! I think my favorite is probably The Codex Alera series from back in the day.
Hehe I was same with Lara Jean books, I don't like contemporary but really really fell in love with the trilogy
I bought three dark crowns and couldnt finish it. It was sooo slow, not much was happening, it was so dull and confusing and just yuck for me. Three Dark Crowns has been #1 on my TBR for ages and I've yet to read it still. I'm finally taking it on this weekend.
My favorite unexpected book has to be the The Chaos Walking Trilogy by Patrick Ness. I got the books as a gift about a year ago and I cannot stress how much I love them, the series is probably in my top five.
I love that sweater on you, Regan 💕
Love your sweater
We Were Liars by E. Lockhart!!! Absolutely blew me away!!
It's very excited and you won't be able to put it down!
Same! No one really talks about it
I am re-reading Night Film. It’s amazing
An ember in the ashes totally blew me away. Emma L. Lol I read the first chapter. It was terrible. Bad writing
Can't wait to see what are some of your faves 💖
Ah! The Storied Life of AJ Fickory! YES! I now recommend that to EVERYONE now because it was the biggest surprise for me. Anne Bishops Written in Red series was an unexpected love for me. I didn't think I was gonna like it at all, but now it's one of my favorites.

Yes, the thief is really old school - i read waaaay back in high school and didnt even know it was a series until this vid!
I knew I was going to love SoC just because of the central plot and character descriptions lol. Anyways, this is the fifth time this week I hear someone talk about how fantastic The Thief is and I’m officially taking it as a sign to read it! Great video~
Jenny Han was unexpected for me too ☺also I was struggling with illuminae's format in the beginning but after that I flew through it and now I am obsessed
i know you tried to read the lies of locke lamora before and put it down but ahhhh it fits your taste in books so much idk
I second this so much. Every time I recommend it, I just gush about insanely but always preface with "just push past the 40 pages. They're super important, but boring while reading." It took me three tries, but it's one of my favorite series of all times.

Beautiful Regan as usual❤️
I listened to the Night Film audiobook. I liked it
I tried to read the thief and I LOVED IT but then the sequel I couldn't get a hold of literally anywhere. I finally found it on amazon!!
Shelby Gregory The sequel is sooooo good! It's worth the search.
Hi! I'm fall in love with Jeny Han books ♥
Yesterday, I read The War That Saved My Life, I didn't expect it, but it's one of my favorites now. I super recommend
Early squad 😊. Watching this instead of doing my HW or reading a BOOK.
YAS! Night film is one of mine as well!!
I was so sceptical before I read City of Bones and Twilight but now those series are some of my absolute favs
The darkest minds was one. I read it when it first came out and I hadn't heard anything about it and randomly picked it up from Walmart and was blown away. Another was girl with all the gifts. Throne of Glass is my #1 unexpected fav. i thought it was just another over hyped series but hearing you talk so much about it made me give it a chance and theeen i ended up loving it and binged the whole series lol

three dark crowns is AMAZING !!
The Falconer by Elizabeth May! SO GOOD!
Oh and I'm glad you say The Netherlands, and not Holland...

Thanks they all went on my wishlist
IM GLAD YOU LOVE ILLUMINAE!!!! It's one of my favourite series and I'm so sad it's ending 😭
I️ absolutely loved “the false prince “ by Jennifer A Nielsen but no one has read it and that’s really sad because the book is sooooo amazing.
this video is so pure and good
Omg I NEED to read some Jenny Han
Some of my all-time favorites are books that I picked up because of the hype but was kind of meh about to start with- like The Lunar Chronicles and The Girl of Fire and Thorns trilogy! I definitely think part of my love for them is linked to the excitement of having my expectations completely overturned.
three dark crowns. I WANT.
I'm reading Rumble Fish by S. E. Hinton and I'm surprised that I'm liking so far.
wolf simmer My favorite book of hers, tied with The Outsiders. If you like it you should try "That Was Then, This Is Now" next. :)
Diamond&Coal Books I did read that and I didn't like it.
wolf simmer Bummer. :( Tex is pretty good too. Probably my least favorite of hers is "Taming the Star Runner."
Is there some earthquake you didn’t know about? Why is the background moving??
I think sometimes her dog pushes the tripod or something that makes the camera wobble
+Monique Book Lover lol yes, Matilda is always up to something
Omg thank god someone else noticed I thought I was starting to hallucinate
I literally thought I was having a stroke or something. I had to go back and watch a few times just to make sure it was actually the video and not me having some sort of eye issues lol
The Passenger Duology was an unexpected favorite of mine! I went in with no expectations but really enjoyed it :)
I thought this very thing about ACOTAR and ACOMAF and ACOWAR
An unexpected fav of mine is The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman. I know Alice Hoffman is a really popular author but my high school self didn't really read any adult books and I hadn't heard of her before; I also didn't know anything about the historical context of the book but I ended up loving the story and all the fierce female characters.
You should read The Passage trilogy, I love it so much!!
LOVED THE THIEF!!!!!

I immediately went to look up The Thief and the author hasn’t made the series available in my country (nz) gah wth?
Yeah it's a fun title too! #unexpectedFavoritebooks of all time !
Hey! I also picked up The Bear and Nightingale on a whim not hearing anything about it, then I saw you picked it up a few videos ago. Have you read it yet (or anyone else in the comments)? I started it and I couldn't get through the first couple chapters and I am wondering if anyone else felt this way. Wow, had literally the same feeling about Nightfilm O_O
YOU GOTTA TELL ME WHERE YOU GOT THAT SWEATER
YES to Night Film! I've read it in Dutch but would love to reread it in English :) Also, I'm kinda living for that jumper :D
I've been putting off Illuminae because I found the hype weirdly off-putting...maybe I'll give it a try after all
the biggest surprise favourite book I ever had was The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender... I expected a generic YA book with annoying romance and flimsy characters and I was BLOWN AWAY by the beautiful writing, the tragic and fascinating story, the amazing characters.... still one of my favourite books
another surprise series for me was the His Fair Assassin series (Grave Mercy, etc.). Binti by Nnedi Okorafor was my unexpected fave
Six of Crows was an adventure for me, I hate it, than I didn't, nope yes I did and at the last minute, nope nope I love it. I now can't stop thinking about six of Crows but I determine to read the grisha verse series before reading Crooked kingdom. LOL
