      I was just getting ready to recommend The Emperor's Soul! It's one of my fav Sanderson books. Have you read Perfect State? It's a sanderson Sci Fi novella. I think these 2 books perfectly illustrate his depth as an author - 2 genres, both masterfully written

    • @belleah5562
      @belleah5562 5 лет назад

      Book Your Imagination I think Perfect State is more set up to read as a comedy compared to some of his other sci-fi stuff, but yeah, I agree Sanderson’s short stories have just as complex world-building as his full-length novels, and in a lot of ways they’re more mind-blowing because they’re short.

    Just a small correction, Jude from The Cruel Prince is actually not half fae, but completely human - her half sister is half fae. That‘s kind of the whole point of Jude‘s character arc, her longing for power because she feels weak as a human among fae. :)

    The term "fantasy" covers a wide spectrum. For me, The Wheel of Time series is THE epitome of high fantasy...bar none. When it comes to a single volume novel, my favourite is Weaveworld, by Clive Barker. It was published in 1987, and I just loved it. I'm drawn back to reread it about once every two years. Wikipedia describes the book as dark fantasy, and it couldn't be more dissimilar to The Wheel of Time series.

    TIME MASTER TRILOGY by Louise Cooper!!!
    The seven gods of Order had ruled unchallenged for centuries, served by the adepts of the Circlein their bleak northern castle on the Star Peninsula. But for Tarod-the most enigmatic and formidable sorcerer in the Circle’s ranks-a darker affinity had begun to call. Threatening his beliefs, even his sanity, it rose unbidden from beyond time; an ancient and deadly adversary that could plunge the world into madness and chaos-and whose power might rival that of the gods themselves.
    And though Tarod’s mind and heart were pledged to Order, his soul was another matter...
    Book 1: The Initiate
    Book 2: The Outcast
    Book 3: The Master.

    I don't know how many pages it is, but I recommend "The Girl Who Drank the Moon" by Kellly Barnhill. It's a super sweet, quick read with Howl's Moving Castle type vibes.

    I haven't read a single fantasy book under 400 pages so far this year, oops. I should really pick up some of these soon, definitely An Enchantment of Ravens.

    Some of my recent reads (short fantasy) are the deny series by Sara B. Larson. Though I personally would give them a 3.5 on 5 rating.
