Many religions do something similar, dating back way further than any history there is of the Native Americans. Native American people don't get the credit, no matter how much you agree with the "Hollywood common culture" narrative you've been exposed to and indoctrinated to believe...

I watched your video and although it was sad to see that happen to any person it also looked as if that bear was being kept and who knows what his life was like or how he was being treated. Bears are wild animals and I completely respect that which means if I venture into their territory I take the chance of being harmed or killed. No matter what I still want them to be safe and free just the way I do for all living beings.

@Liliana Jankovic I personally would shit myself, most likely, depending on how far I'm away and what is between me and the bear. I guess I'd try to get as much space and protection between me and the animal. Be it a car , a door, and then get as far away as possible and leave it alone if it is in the woods and not my backyard. If it is in someones backyard I'd call the authorities and the neighbours to stay inside until they shoo him back into the woods , hopefully.

@Trekking with Trevor ,,, Grizzly Bears are quite a lot different than Black Bears. They're quite unpredictable and are huge. I hope you don't go out filming when you're alone and you should carry bear spray and know how to use it.

@@lunaluck1060 I'm aware. I always carry bear spray and keep my distance from the bears. I'm always cautious when exploring the wilderness, but at the same time, it's where I find peace. I've been guiding and filming up here in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem during the past few years, so I'm definitely aware of the many risks involved when playing in the backcountry. However, I do feel more comfortable hiking and camping in bear country than walking through a city.

I felt so bad for that old bear with no teeth. It broke my heart. Thank you Steve for who you are and all that you do. Also, kuddos to the city, county, and police department for creating and acknowledging Steve's skills and the need for him to work with the bears. And a big hand to the police department. Steve, I come from a family of hunters. My sons have filled my freezers with wild game each year. I was a single mom most their lives and they helped, by putting food on our table. We only take, what we need and it is not for sport, or stuffing for show. I respect the wild, and love it as much as you, and my boys as well. Thank you for being so thoughtful, and kind,(when natures creatures are killed or need to be put down,) and respecting them as the people of the land respect them. I was so touched, by this act. If anyone deserves recognition, respect in this place, it is the indigenous people.

His wife seems like a top woman, and his son as genuine and kind as his Dad. He has earned the respect, and shows it, daily. A truly blessed man: a job he loves, working with magnificent animals, and the love of him community. It suits him down to the ground. He's a damned good example for young men and women to emulate. When I was 17 I crawled in a den with a 300-350lb black bear. It was mid November and the bear was just getting ready to hibernate. It was half asleep but still huffing a little and shuffling around as I calmly talked to it. I remember how massive and powerful it looked even when resting and realized it could easily destroy me with it's 2-3 inch claws attached to paws as big as my head. Every time it took a breath I could feel the heat and see the big plume of steam exit it's nostrils. Two weeks later I went back to check up on the bear and to my surprise it was gone. I felt bad that I had moved it out of it's winter home so close to snow fall but I appreciated that it hadn't eaten me when clearly it wasn't as asleep as I first thought. Not a smart move but a very cool experience to get within touching distance of a big black bear.
I say all that to say this: I really respect what Steve is doing because without people like him there would be a much bigger gap in the ability to co-exist with such a magnificent animal. Thank you for your diligence and respectful perseverance, Steve!
