@@suburbanindie most of the samples are no longer than a few seconds long so we have to listen and adjust our tempos as we play. It’s a great feeling when you nail it though.
I’ve been listening to Royal Blood for years and finally saw them live the past Friday. Seeing them live solidified everything I liked about them. Fan for life now. They absolutely killed it 🪓
I used to play their entire first album as a drum warmup. I know those songs backwards and forwards. They're not hard, they're high-energy, and they're simply a blast to play. I always describe the first album as a soundtrack to the longest bar fight in human history. It's so bad ass.
Ben comes across so well, you can tell that he's just a guy living his best life playing drums for the fun of it. No wanky pretentiousness from it, just a guy and his best mate playing music with a bonus of getting paid.
I had no idea he is triggering the vocals. I always thought it is on click, wow. I still remember the feeling when I first heart Out of the black drums... blew my mind.
Royal blood was the fastest selling British rock debut in three years, hitting number one in the UK and going twenty in ten countries including the US . They were lauded with Awards for Best New Band and Best Live Bands , the kerrang .
Ben is an excellent drummer to play a long to. He's clean and his parts sound relatively simple but they have enough spice to them to keep it fun and interesting. He's right that Out of the Black is definitely a song that helps your left hand. One of my favorite drummers and just straight up good dude.
“We wanna change up the set don’t wanna make it obvious that’s where the drum solo goes every night” - now this is a live band. Don’t wanna follow a script like so many do. I love it
I saw Royal Blood open for Queens of the Stone Age in Toronto around 2018. Don't get me wrong, QOTSA sounded amazing and put on a great show, but Royal Blood were my favourite part. It was the heaviest sound I had ever heard. My ears couldn't reconcile with my eyes only seeing two guys up there. Ben is a fantastic drummer. I can think of few drummers that are that solid no matter what beat is being played.
I'd also add "The Black Keys" to the list of 2 piece bands who were heavy as f%ck! At least when TBK first came out as a 2 piece band they were raw & heavy AF. Just saying... +++Peace Funk & Rock n' Roll 4 Your Soul My Friends+++ 🤘😜🤘
I cant believe this, just started to learn to play drums, Royal Blood is my favorite band and you guys just realease this treat of a video! I hope I can find all Royal Blood songs on your website. LOVE!! PS: dont forget to brush your teeth, ROCK N ROLL!
Saw them last month in Australia. The sound these 2 guys produce is phenomenal. A few songs into the setlist, the crowd starting chanting "drum solo" and the singer Mike tells Ben to give them what they want, so he rips one out on the spot. Such an awesome show
I absolutely LOVE Royal Blood, I'm watching this while I'm waiting for the show they're doing in Brazil in April, the first one I've ever been to. It's really exciting to see Ben talk about the show, his favorite songs to play, inspirations, etc.
18:45 always loved that little break that messes with your head. And now he played the toms twice in a row and I am amazed again! Love it! Seems like such a great guy!
Dear Drumeo, excelent choice of modern contemporary drummers, as always. Is there a chance that we see some Morgan Rose of Sevendust? Very original and significant name in modern rock drumming. Keep doing what you do, guys, it is priceless!!!
Saw them touring the UK after their second album and have seen them again since, I'm from near where they're from so it's insane to see them on Drumeo, 2 little English lads have grown up a bit now 🥲
First started listening to these guys in 2015 when they were on Howard Stern. Finally got to see them live for the first time a few months ago and they did not disappoint. Great band and great video with Ben.
Royal Blood are incredible, not just for a two piece but full stop. Some of my favorite music of all time, and I wasn't even a teen anymore when I first heard their stuff
My son's first rock show, we got to see their stadium set in a little club as they were in between SF and LA. Such a big sound from two dudes. Heavy, explosive, and way too much fun. Love Ben and love this band.
All that amazing sound and they are only two dudes 😮 oh man what a beautiful kit 🥰🥁 I am gonna have to check out some more 'Royal Blood' they rock! Thanks for this @Drumeo you guys rock too 😊
This was awesome! I loved the insight and the behind the scenes look at these tracks that I've loved for years. I love Back to the Water Below so much that I've loved it for infinity years. Great interview as well. Liked and subscribed.
First saw these guys when they opened for Foo Fighters at CitiField in NYC, and I've been a huge fan ever since. 2 incredibly talented guys kicking ass and taking no prisoners 🤘🏻✊🏻✌🏻
Drumeo: fantastic video as a guitarist I love understanding yalls world better through videos like this. Drummers: if they don’t play to a clique, how the hell does the length of his triggers like the background harmonies stay in time
The last show I went to was Royal Blood in Portland, and DAMN they crushed it! Every single person was rocking out hard. Basically a huge party. So sick!
Found this band from nowhere, just a few people listening. Moments after that, playing Forza Horizon 3 I was surprised with 2 song of them in the game. One week ago went to the show of them here in Rio de Janeiro, and can say. They are wild, and have a such unique energy. Ben pointed to me and wave his hand tô me at beginning of the show. I really fall for they sound. And knew a bunch of people who is fan from the bottom ❤. Ben, you're amazing.
I've been a Royal Blood fan since I first heard them. Saw them live once in 2018, gonna see them in April again. I gotta say I'm REALLY impressed that the tracks are triggered by Ben and not automatic while playing to a click track. I would have assumed that was the case. This makes my appreciation for this band much bigger. Great video!
I saw Ben causally standing outside Finsbury Park station in London just minding his own business. Wish I’d stopped to say hello but thought it was pretty cool to see a bonafide rockstar in every day life.
Such an innovative and unique band. Ben is a phenomenal drummer and showman!! Saw them live from the front row in SLC in November. Love that you gave him the spotlight here! 💪

Funny how so many musicians are getting on bands for having prerecorded elements to their live show but here the drummer is hitting those triggers to play them, they're not just synced up through the PA
Saw them in Perth supported by psychedelic prn crumpets, fuckin incredible show never seen a live band so loud but also with so much clarity and punch in the mix.

Can you guys get Ronnie Vannucci in an episode?!
But they literally use drum triggers which have to be timed to a click

Royal Blood are insanely good for a two piece. Glad Ben Thatcher is getting the recognition he deserves!

Me and my brother always say 'It's like someone shitting in your ears in a good way'
Me too! I also played the bass parts to warm up. Really great album to break down

It's funny, I was thinking the exact opposite
The singer on the other hand
Correct❤
No pretentiousness….sat there wearing sun glasses indoors. Joke of a band.
i didn't get that at all...
I can't believe it I had no idea HE was the one triggering the backing vocals and percussion/synth parts. Just makes them more badass!
"We don't play to a click and we don't play to any tracks"
LOVE IT!
They are so tight live.
@Lance37a Two best friends who enjoy playing music together. It's a great feeling
Was so happily suprised by that! I always thought they were!
I have seen footage which suggests otherwise. However, I can imagine at their own shows they play fully live.
@@iEddiezany vocal cues are played by ben on one of those roland pad things i think
One of best sounding bands. Super simple without BS. Drums are amazing. I have huge respect for RB guys. Cheers.
Great interview!! I love that Drumeo shows us the human side of drummers, who often don’t get much of a voice in standard music media coverage.
👊🏻
Takes me back to 2014, Ben Thatcher is such a beast
Royal Blood have been here for a decade... God damn!

My left hand didn’t work like that until I started playing that song
Are we gettin a “Ben Thatcher hears ‘x’ for the first time”? Cause that would be awesome.
