  • Following a phone call I had no hesitation in travelling to see a lovely 30-year old NH TX32 combine harvesting a field of winter barley. With a MF 6716S on trailer duties what made this visit so pleasant was not only the very clean combine, a model that is not so common now in the Cumbrian area but filming under bright blue skies that hasn’t always been the case these last couple of months!
    Filmed in Cumbria September 2023.

Big skies and a cracking machine.

It certainly is Rob, in very nice condition for its age. Yes the cloudless skies definitely make a change from the ones we’ve had over the last few months, much more like summer! Cheers David

Cheers Steve. Oh it was such a joy to have blue skies to film under but like you it’s been back to square one these last few days. It is a lovely combine, first season with this owner but judging by the way it’s running and appearance the NH has certainly been looked after in the past. Cheers David

Blue sky in Cumbria? Whatever next! Well, you took advantage of them, anyway, and got a good one!

Yet another wonderful video David, this time with one of New Hollands finest the TX32. These were the days where fully automated height control with self leveling, coupled with adjustments on the move of the threshing mechanism and totally straight rows with the inbuilt GPS system and that system was called, "the man at the controls" who had none of the wonderful systems to do it for him. In these days running the combine was a very skilled job and you knew you had done a shift by the end of the day. Although in fairness, they were spoiled compared to my non cab NH Clayson 135 lol. Looked a really nice day too. Thanks David

And mechanical levers instead of touch screens! Yes I know exactly what you mean Fraser, the new combines for all their capabilities are miles away in terms of technology from the classics and although it no doubt takes a lot of skill to operate one (I wouldn’t know where to start) as you say operating a combine from a few decades ago demanded a lot of knowledge and yes without creature comforts (especially air conditioning, never mind a cab) you certainly knew you’d done a day’s shift at the end of it. Speaking of a NH Clayson 135, a farmer used to operate (not so many years ago) a Clayson 103 but sadly I don’t think it’s around anymore. Yes it was a beautiful day Fraser, caught some late haymaking the same day so once edited I’ll be posting the video. Thanks once again, cheers David

@@davidwinthrop7077 Yeah I forgot about the air conditioning and touch screens and like you, I would be lost now. Changed my car in August and still trying to work out how everything works. Pity about the old 103, that would have been great to have seen. I will look forwrad to the haymaking video and thanks for you very welcome reply's. Fraser
