I am doing following steps Step1: Created an on-premise gateway on my server(other then sql server) however this server has full connectivity to my sql server in the same network. Step2: Created a data set using desktop version of powerbi .IN the credentials chosen localhost as the same name which I used for regestering on server is not working. Step3 :Now when I publish this the gateway is set as localhost in powerBI cloud version.As a result it shows connectivity issues. Am I doing something wrong?How can I make my desktop powerBI version connect with the gateway configured on my server directly so that I dont have to worry about the connection for various environments.I cannot see option for choosing the gateways. Please help.

The computer must be trusted for delegation and the current user account must be configured to allow delegation". What might be the cause and a likely solution, please.

Do we need on premise gateway while importing/direct querying data from on premise sources directly into Power BI service or is it just required for scheduling refreshes?
Have you been able to cluster 2 gateways? Whenever I do that, my refreshes always fail. It says it can reach the gateway but not the data source. I am connecting to a SQL Server in my environment.

As will all things - it depends. 😉 You shouldn't need a specific SQL for SQL Server database with relation to Power BI. For SSAS, in order to use a live connection you need the BI or ENT SKU in order to use EffectiveUserName. Starting with 2016, the BI SKU isn't there so you need the ENT SKU. Premium is not a requirement for Gateway usage. Anyone can create a gateway.
Hi Adam, Would it be a good idea to install gateways in 3rd party environments? I'm working in a large enterprise and aside from sources we can access directly in the cloud and sources in our on-premise network (which we handle with gateways) we also have 3rd party's who host certain servers in their own environment. I think my main fear is not so much the technical working of it but the fact that I'm now creating dependencies on 3rd party's systems e.g. what if their server is down. Maybe it is a cleaner method to send over files instead?
I'd suggest you change yr home page to display your most recent vids rather than your most popular vids. I always have to use 2 clicks to see whats new when I get a notification.
Adam Im running the on premise gateway and run into a 64 bit issue with MS Access. Ive run the executables for access and can import into the power bi desktop and refresh but can load into an app and publish without that error showing up. Any ideas.

Power BI Desktop doesn't work with the gateway at all. It isn't designed for that. From an authoring experience, you need to be able to direct connect to the Azure SQL Database from Power BI Desktop. Whether that is taking advantage of ExpressRoute, or if you are using a specific VNET and have an Azure VM in the same VNET, those are the options you need to think about. If you really want that capability within Power BI Desktop, I recommend making your voice heard in ideas.powerbi.com and evangelizing it. Of note, i don't hear that request very often. Actually, I think I've only heard that about 3 times ever. That isn't an indicator, I'm just sharing my personal experience with it.
Actually, I am looking for a workaround for a firewall rule, since I can not set it up here at moment. So we thought about using a tunnel. I will looking for the options you proposed me.
