Shield shunt is godsend for AI. They know when to vent but they constantly get too optimistic with their shields and suffer overload after overload. This neatly sidesteps the issue - you can't get overloaded just from firing your guns, you just lose fire rate as you hit flux cap.

Legion and onslaught are tough but they lack speed and firepower to finish off oponents and now with invictus acting as instant-delete button they realy rule the stars.

I normally run a wolfpack tactics style build, and when I got the Persean League blockade notification my first thought was "ah what can it be, 2 fleets?".
Then I got the 22 fleets notification and thought "ah they're probably mainly fast pickets".
Then I camped the ring system around Kazeron to engage far forward, only to see an S-modded fleet and like 10 fleets I stood no chance against even without support.
It was a lengthy guerrilla war. Also I learned Persean League fighter & Gazer spam is like the ultimate frigate build counter.

fighters beat frigates, ultimately that's their greatest use and is THE reason to field them
they can deal good damage to battleships too, but in their case they have more effective PD systems which can cripple fighter formations

Odyssey works great with Wolfpack tactics. With the right red skills, you can keep pace with frigates, give the frigates something to hide behind and stay mobile enough to not get into a firefight you can't win.

this is interesting, i'm still learning starsector, so definitely not tried anything like this. So far i've been enjoying midline ships the most but still struggling to really learn what to fit to the big cruisers & battleships with, but tons of fun might give this strategy a try on my next playthrough

    • @zarosthealmighty371
      @zarosthealmighty371 8 месяцев назад +8

Midline offers a really enjoyable balance between low and hi tech, but I think in general it sacrifices a considerable amount of what makes both good. In my opinion, which admittedly is just an opinion, it typically lacks enough to actually beat either without a considerable amount of skill.
As far as fitting guns and whatnot, the biggest and most important thing to consider is how you pilot vs how an AI pilots. You hardly ever want to give the AI a ship that can make more flux than it can dissipate from shooting. They can and will overload themselves EVERY TIME. (not every time but it feels like it). Whereas your own ship can have much, much more flux heavy things and you can manage it properly.
Well, unless you use 4 shield shunted onslaughts... then you don't have to worry about the AI overloading themselves :p
Hope my random intrusion was helpful and didn't come off as mean or conceited or anything. if/when you start modding, there's so much crazy shit out there.

I also for the first time got a legion in my fleet last night and I think I'm in love with that thing, it can take so much punishment while my destroyers and cruisers go around the flanks and clean house, so I really want to try an onslaught now :) also so far my favorite cruiser is an Eagle I've heard it's not good but so far it works really well for me so idk

@@TheTemplarnightEagle is a really good cruiser. It wont destroy anything in the forseeable future but its really good at stalling the enemy. Very fast, very good shielding means it can just sit there and make the enemy ai cry.
Personally i hate midline with a passion, bc they are jack of all trades, that means they suck at everything basically. There are very good ships there ofc. Eagle, champion, player pegasus, hammerhead, sunder. But to be fair all of these good ships are good at one single thing. Thats why they are good. I dont personally like the do all but badly ships
High and low tech on the other hand is hilarious fun. High tech rewards a good pilot while lowtech just sits there and outlasts anything. I include some interesting ships for you.
Dakkatech: lp brawler, the goddamn eradicator. Oh eradicator my beloved. As the name suggests its very good at eradicating stuff. But the pirate version is trash, you really want the non p version bc accelerated ammo feeder goes brr. Probably the strongest cruiser rn. Fast, good armor, insane firepower and the unlimited power of medium ballistics, legion is good preferrably XIV. And the classic, The Old Man, the XIV Onslaught. Its pretty much impossible to outdakka that thing. It has 2 things, firepower and survivability.
      And finally the peaktech:
Tempest, omen, hyperion, fury, aurora, harbi, astral, im not a big paragon respecter bc its boring as hell, but you cant deny that thing is effective. And my personal favorite ship in the entire game. The Frickin Odyssey. The true battlecruiser. Its like midline but actually good. 2 large energy slots with wide arcs and the flux stats to back them up. Its faster than some cruisers, has insanely good shielding, 2 fighters bc why the hell not. Once you find a good odyssey fit you dont want to pilot anything else. It also brings utility since you get the biggest vision range in the game for basically free if you build in the advanced sensors, wich btw dont count as built in s mods. It outruns everything that it cant outgun, and it outguns everything you cant outrun. Doesnt cost a fortune to move around. Its basically an aurora on anabolic steroids. Couple it with some cruisers that can hold the line and flank, nothing can catch you that you cant evaporate in a second. Once you have an ody you can sell all the conquests you have for some reason. The only thing that comes close to that ship in the causing mayhem category is something [VERY REDACTED] you can find somewhere in the sector. If you already knoe what it is, its a big mean looking capital that spams purple orbs for comedic relief

The colony crisis faction raids are godsend. Back then i had to go to war with them to get infinite supply of their ships. Now they come to me. I can salvage everything bc my colony is like 10 meters away. Free money. I just have 3 separate fleets in storage to counter every style of fleet they throw at me. Big stupid low tier fleets? 2 words. Plasma Cannon. Big stupid low tech frigate junk? 2 different words. Tachyon Lance. I have a safety override lp eradicator with nothing but reapers and thumpers that i solely deploy to solo an invictus. Park behind it, launch every torp to strip armor, press F, gone. Against high tech i tend to just deploy my omega odyssey. Watch the femboys cry when i drop 6k kinetic dps on them. Midline is the hardest one tbh bc the constant and annoying missile spam. How do you counter spam? Wasp drones. Ungodly amount of wasp drones. They have pd, no crew so they can freely blow up. If you have more than 10 fps you dont have enough wasps. I either go with full legions if i happen to have enough, or just a random junk cruiser fleet with the makeshift hangars. Every fighter slot gets 6 wasps and they barely cost any points. Defensive targeting hullmod if i want to be extra annoying. And if poo hits the fan you can always hide behind your station. Just avoid midline stations, they blow. The other options are about the same. But high tech needs good weapon blueprints. Low tech doesnt care if your only large ballistic is the hellbore. It has insane firepower, only low tech big boys and high tech can reliably survive. But high tech ships with ai fits usually lack the range and the anti armor firepower to deal with the station. So unless the ai parks 600 auroras ontop or 10 onslaughts you are more than fine. And thankfully station ai likes to focus fire so the enemy cant really retreat out of its insane range. But the high tech station once you have tachyon lance, plasma and that burst emp medium i always forget how its called coupled with an alpha core, it becomes a league of its own. I saw that thing solo entire double and triple stack of smodded invasion fleets. Deploying anything smaller than a cruiser is a suicide against the tachyon spam, while the big guys enjoy some plasma for breakfast. And it has insane shielding, so its not so prone to be worn down in constant suicide yolo

It's clear the Invictus is just overpowered and needs a proper nerf.

Invictus has weaknesses. This one is using skills that help drastically improve armor integrity even in the face of HE weapons.

I'm new to Starsector and have clapped Invictus' rather easily. True, I had a Paragon, but still it wasn't an optimized build since I knew jack shit on what to put on it besides tachyon lances, and didn't build on it using a guide.

Not trying to piss in your cheerios, but this does not look balanced at all. Do you derive satisfaction from removing any chance 95% of ships have to contribute to a fight against that monster ship? Evidence suggests you must, but perhaps it's too good in terms of content.

it's very slow and VERY resource and crew heavy fleet. So, it's balancing through economy, not through military strength. I fear it only could be used as some type of homeworld protection detachment, but not as the main sector cleaning tool...

@@DeepProbe just with three tugs and hyperfield omtimization you have cap speed 20 in hyper, and 17 in system without nav buoy, so speed it is not a problem. Aslo crew payment it is not a problem, now i hove 150kk, colony income is 600k, one bounty is 300-800k, i do not understand if someone spek about such things. So it can be used like main total sector cleaning tool, with remnants it is not very well, but hunting by one ordo it is ok, three ordos seems to be a problem. :D
