You can also get frozen fruit and vegetables to bring the costs down. There's always a way to get fruit and veg!
Absolutely, but if you have the possibility to prioritise food then that's preferable in my opinion. I don't have a car (no gas money etc), rarely eat out, etc but instead buy a lot of fresh organic produce. Probably at least 3 lbs of fruit and veg daily, even more now that we have such lovely and tasty fruits and berries during the summer months.
I'm in UK and I find the fruits not good quality,I look at all those beautiful coloured fruits and veg in America's supermarket and the packet are actually family size not like here in UK with their small packet of salads.and you can't find grapes anymore with their seeds.everything that is good for us is expensive if you are trying to buy for a week as a vegan and it be good quality.
I love that you are transparent about how much you spend on your selected vegan diet, but make it apparent that you can also do it on a budget! 🌱
Been fighting severe depression so I took a nap and woke up to your video 😁 excited for this. I absolutely love your videos and been making some huge changes in my diet thanks to them.
Even when buying avocados or leafy greens I think it is worth taking into consideration meats like steak or fancy cheeses people eat are not cheap either and people are not picking out on others having them in their fridges. I think I spend less thy my meat eating friends even though I buy A TON of produce and some extra vegan products from time to time :D
Anyways, sending you both lots of love!
Stay safe and have a great rest of the week!
I agree with that in terms of a vegan diet being cheaper generally than a meat eating one and there are different budgets for all types of diets but avocados and especially leafy greens, are not really premium quality foods, they're healthy produce that everyone is supposed to eat, so it doesn't seem fair that they're so expensive. I'd understand it for things like nut butters or more unusual ingredients.
This is a good point.
I make “baked” potatoes in the slow cooker. Poke them with a fork, brush with oil, sprinkle with salt, and wrap tightly with foil. Cook on high for 4.5 to 5 hours or low for 6.5 to 7 hours. The flesh is a bit creamier because it’s more like a steamed potato. To get the skin crispy you can unwrap and toss in the oven for a bit.
Which reminds me, this is tonight’s dinner so I need to prep them.
Living in Texas i find being avegan is really cheap. I love how i go to my local heb & get 5 pounds of yellow potatoes for $2.50 or go to my 99 cent store and get 3 pounds of organic oranegs for $1. I can feed my vegan family of 3 for 1 month for $300 a month and thats including buying vegan desserts for a month. I would love to a updated video on you making some fudgey brownies. Those dates are ok i had them in the past but they are not the best i have had even better in the states

White potato and dill is what I used to eat as a kid A LOT. I love dill ❤
Aga, ale super Cie tu widzieć!! Good to see You here Aga❤️❤️
same, are you slavic by anychance? i am polish lol
5:24 Very appreciated! Super happy to see you switch to home-grown instead of stroe-bought!
yes, and we hope to start growing a lot more of our own stuff esp herbs :)
@@HealthyCrazyCool Good luck then! Some herbs are harder to grow than other :D
I was so confused on how this was cheap since I eat everyday for half that budget but then I realised I am probably 1/3 your size... lol
Banana and date smoothie? Getting hints of freelee here, maybe she’s onto something 🤔😂
Freelee makes a lot of good points and has good recipes you just have to like with any one else’s diet tweak it to make it yours.. we are individuals and are all made to eat individually.. but we can learn a lot from others but no one should eat 100 percent like another 🙃
Yeah starting your day with that much sugar is going to make you feel good
Be careful with that much fructose! Very dangerous for the liver, I'd stick to lower glycemic fruits that are just as nutrient dense
Anyone will get energy from 20 dates and 10 bananas. Though the potential of a sugar crash is quite high.
@@tealblue22 the individual differences are not that pronounced I'm afraid. The diet she presents is dangerous nutritionally.
HOW IS THAT BOX OF DATES SO CHEAP?! A tiny box of dates in ny are sometimes $15!!!!!
I've never tried Sharron Fruit. But, I will now.
Mind you, finding ripe and ready fruit these days is almost an impossibility.
Especially pears and any kind of "stone" fruit.
I can't remember the last time I ate a really ripe peach, nectarine, or plum.
Sharron is quite elusive out of winter in uk.
Medjool dates are the best dates, but not the dry ones that you find most of the time!! The soft, plump caramelly dates that you have to look for, usually from California!
Just an idea for anyone looking for more savings. Just toss the leftover chilli in your pasta for dinner.
💜💙 I'm not vegan or vegetarian.. but Miles.. your meals look soooo delicious and I will be cooking them and trying them out for sure. Good way to get more fruits and veg into my diet! Thank you for taking the time to make all your videos Miles. From your fellow UK follower 💙💜
My histamine intolerance forced me to go from a junky vegan to a whole foods vegan 😆 now I mostly eat 'cheap' foods and I'm happier than ever
If you do not mind me asking, can you please explain the symptoms of your histamine intolerance?
I’ve personally had these mystery reactions to processed, oily, & other foods (especially cooked dairy products-cheese-before I was strictly plant based) for the past two years, in which my lymph nodes swell & my mouth hurts like in the bottom of my jaw & around my tongue.
I still do not know what it is, but since I have avoided vegan junk & only eaten whole foods for the most part, my lymph node swelling is minimal to none.
@@kassidybrown4054 I also had a histamine intolerance even after being vegan for 5 years, my nose would run after seemingly everything I ate. I found that acidic foods were causing this reaction. I did an alkaline diet with no/low-acidic foods for 1 week in 2019. I now can eat high-histamine/acidic fruits, vegetables, and grains without having histamine reactions 💚 Look up Dr. Sebi Alkaline Foods list and try this out!
Veganism can be expensive or cheap! It’s all up to what you decide to purchase and plan out to make! 🤍
It also leads to malnutrition and premature aging.
@@eskanda3434 no it does not. 🤦🏻♀️
Great vid! Re: sprouting, have you tried using a half cup of seeds in a washed out plant milk carton? It’s genius. It fills the carton, gives a beautiful yield in 4 days 💜🍲 simply soak in the carton overnight, then empty water and rinse twice daily, job done. It helps to snip the bottom corner to aid in the draining 🙌🏽 Big Love
Lovely to see Jill ❤️!! I’m happy for you both🙏
I love the little bits you put in with Jil 🥰💘
🥰
Greetings from Pennsylvania, USA. For more authentic chili, you need at least one can of tomato sauce/tomato puree as well as a little tomato paste. I think your chili is more accurately called chick pea and kidney bean stew.
His chili is heart attack, heart disease, carcinogen free! He can call it vegan chili. 💚💚✌🏼✌🏼
@@Dee-ahn He can call it guacamole if he wants but that won't make it so. You do need tomato sauce/puree and tomato paste for chili and it'll still be heart attack, heart disease, carcinogen free. That being said, I bet what he made tasted AMAZING no matter people call it.
Something I found funny after switching to a plant-based diet is I was a bean freak. I love my beans and my pantry is always stocked with them. I craved beans the most after switching and I still love them.
£5 a day!? I wish... my budget is £10-12 per week
Really?
@@buttaz3000 Yes…. What’s so shocking? Not everybody has loads of money
What's minimum wage in your area ?
@@buttaz3000 when I was a uni student I lived on £10 - £12 a week and my diet actually wasn't bad, just lots of onions, carrots, frozen peas and rice etc lol.
Even now im no longer a student my budget is like £20 - £25
@@charliekp6534 gotcha ;) so it's not really £10-£12
Your vegan meals and food combinations look delicious! I am inspired to make them! I have been vegan for almost 2 years. I eat raw for the most part during the day and cooked meal at dinner.
Everything where I live is 4x the price where you are. I feel like I am so limited with food, as I can’t even get Vivo Life here in Canada. I think living near a big city is wonderful for all the fruit and deals that you get. Saltspring Island, Canada is very beautiful, but expensive, and with limited produce.
I hear ya. Used to live on Mayne, and produce that wasn't local (grown on the island) was VERY expensive.
Good video! And funny you mentioned Abbey sharp about the protein powder because she just reviewed protein powder and said that the vivo life one is a good choice💜 especially because it’s third party tested.
You can add some sun shades which are adjustable for your kitchen
Here in the US spinach is about the same price as Iceberg lettuce I've gotten both fresh & frozen spinach $1 a bag thanks to the 99c store... also Iceberg lettuce doesn't have much nutritional value... Cabbage has more nutrition & is quite cheap I can get that 50c-75c per pound which is about $1 - $2 a head... When on budget buy from the farmers market or directly off the farm it's fresher & cheaper for better quality... you can make homemade milk out of oats, sunflower seeds or any nuts, (optional) dates & vanilla... Also if able to growing certain things yourself will save trips to the store
your editing is always so smooth
"I'm gonna trigger Abby Sharpe" 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 dying.
15:00 That meal looked incredible. Honestly, I have just eaten dinner and I would still be happy to eat it :D Packed with flavours, super nourishing and very satisfying!
We don’t have Sharon fruit in the US. But we do have PEANUT BUTTERRRR 😂
We have Sharon fruit... :) they’re called persimmons here.
@@lilg3514 I have yet to see persimmon at any regular or specialty grocery stores! I can only imagine how it tastes ☁️
@@by159w to me they taste a lot like dates.
@@summerjoy1352 do they? I imagine they might be better than dates as they look to have a softer texture, like plums 😋
Good evening Miles!!! You've got a superpowered metabolism we get it eat what your body and soul tells you to eat. It's brilliant to drop in on you living your life and adjusting the camera -- my sis has a youtube channel on a different subject and I know how hard it is; her guy is a professional photographer and ... well we're old ladies in our 50s and need lighting who cares. Your channel will endure because of ... all the quotes below beginning with the one about dill. Lots of love from several fans from Canada.
I followed You long time and You give very good message to World 🤗
I’m agree of everything !
I love greens and makes my green juse 2l every single day about 8 years now..
Everything You put in You body is what’s You what’s to feel, because our body is our home in this world 🌎
peanut butter dates are my fav! dunk and freeze them... beyond good
Miles, Thanks for showing it can be done. Any working class vegan foodie can always learn how to build their vegan pantry on the cheap. Depends on where and how you shop. PS…so thankful I’m growing dill this year. 🤣😂🤣
your hair actually looks fire at this stage 👌🏼
I always make a hummus avocado sandwich with some arugula, sunflower seeds and coconut syrup or balsamic glaze. I would've used walnuts if I wasn't allergic to nuts...just in case sb wanted to recreate it. The pasta reminds me of it 😋
literally ate dates dipped in PB last night... easily addictive haha but SO good. Also can help stave off hunger some for a bit.... just try not to inhale too many lol you can easily go wayyyyy overboard with this combo.
''I've actually ended relationships with people that don't like dill.''
same bro, same!
Right know I'm a student and still living at home, but I'll graduate next year and move out to go to college. I'll probably be on quite tight a budget and I'm already dreading it. Usually I eat a lot of fresh produce and that's so pricy! And I know that stuff like Bananas or frozen fruit or veggies come a lot cheaper, but I'm still gonna miss my fresh local strawberries in summer. Also, I think that it's really annoying that here in Germany things like nut butter are so inaccessible? You can basically not find them in normal grocery stores except for maybe one sort of peanut butter (which I can't eat) and it's all very expensive. Like, a jar of almond butter, which isn't a lot at all, will cost you 7€ or something along those lines. That's way too much. And it's the same for maple syrup and other foods like that which just aren't as common in Germany. There's usually not a lot of variety, you might need to go to a special store to get them and there are no cheap versions because only super expensive organic brands produce them over here. Really annoying
Costco in the US sells giant tubs of dates for $7 (bigger than the container you had)
No flippin way!
Good intel.
You have inspired me to start eating vegan. You make vegan meals look interesting to eat and not boring like other videos on here. Can’t wait to see more meal recipes from you.
Meanwhile the grocery store down the road from me is charging $22 for ONE head of cauliflower 🥲 love Hawaii🤪
😳😳😳
First time watching your video. I was on the bike in my home gym and that potato is something else. Can’t wait to try it. Thanks for adding the recipe in description box.
Keep in mind food is much cheaper in the UK. In Sweden, I'd pay 3 times more for most of the things here.
How’s the medication withdrawal process going? Hope you’re well and taking care and Jill too. You guys are such a beautiful couple! In looks but also spirit and soul🥰
No excuse? Food desserts/swamps. That’s a damn good excuse 🥴
Yes my thoughts exactly. I'm 45 mins from fresh produce
And 45 minutes is much different depending on your mode of transportation too. Bus, car, taxi, bicycle, walking.
Usually I find these products in America for 20 bucks a week. Bananas, celery, cabbage, lettuce, carrots, tomatoes, potatoes, almond milk, ginger, cucumbers. If I find all my produce fresh I prepare it and store it so it lasts longer whether in the fridge or freezer. Also buying fruit in season is so cheap. Summer is ofcourse watermelon season so you can buy the biggest most juiciest ones that will last you maybe 4 days. Fish and meat will always be more expensive than vegetables. Going vegan is more filling, sustainable, healthy and I think cheap.
I live in the south in the US and I can say that most people would say that is not chili but a think veggie stew/soup 😂😂😂 chili here is basically mainly beans, meat, and tomato sauce but miles chili looked better 😂
forgot the jalapenos -- those are standard in the basic chili
The Legendary, Mile's Consumption Measurement
5:22.....I thought that was something else in the jar there hahahaha
The potato dish came so good, sure looks filling 😋
Good selection of meal ideas. In the USA the dried beans are generally cheaper than the canned ones.
I'm the fan number one 🥰🥰🥰. Love from France.
I just found your channel and I absolutely love it! Thank you for all the great recipes and for being real! I look forward to your next video. 🍉🍉🍉
I love the idea of vivolife but the most affordable protein option is still 30 pounds for 900g (ritual protein) which means its a pound per serving
okay I haven't seen the whole video yet but HOW are dates so cheap in the UK?! Here in the netherlands they are so expensive :(
You’re my food twin! Aside from the portion size 🤣 I buy the whole fresh produce aisle, Chuck it together for every meal then add on every delicious sauce I own, few herbs… bobs your uncle! 😊😆🤩🥳 🌱
I can’t wAit for Liquid Gold to hit the US😍😭
Perfect for students !
It’s midnight and i just had dinner but now im starving again lmao thank u miles
YESSS IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS 🤗
Hi Miles, thank you for always brightening my day. Truly. I’m wondering, why don’t you buy organic? I’m only a few minutes into the video, so if you explain later in the vid, please ignore me 😊
Lol I hope those weren't very deep relationships if they ended over just simply not liking dill. I have a lot of friends who don't like many of the foods that I enjoy, but we're still friends! I just tailor food I make to share with them to their needs and then we're all happy
Miles I need to know where you get vegan gum???? That's the only thing I've missed since going vegan omg
what makes gum not vegan?! i didnt know this

Dill is my favorite herb. It's good on so many things.
Where do you get good quality fruits and veg from and affordable in SW,London.
i was just about to comment for a cheap food video by him 😭 bless
Would be so nice to see jil back on the RUclips! Or for her to a video on period and hormone health for vegan females xo
I try to get odd bunch avocado 1 kg for the moment costing 4 AUD and they are like mini ones and i literally use 1 per day
I add tiger nuts to my smoothies for extra energy. I order them from Amazon.
What I miss about living in the UK is how cheap food is.
Me too
Where did you buy the dates.? Specific area?
Yum!
Technically, this is not really a chili. However it looks fantastic. I oculd live on this for a long time! Just FYI--Yukon Gold potatoes are much better nutrition, much less carb & iceberg lettuce hs no nutritional value. Better to use romaine or any other leafy green or lettuce.
Yukon Gold is a very American thing, I've never seen them in the UK or in Europe. How come they are better nutritionally?
@@kavya1379 They are much lower carb/starch/sugar content so they don’t cause sugar spikes or raise your glycemic index. I believe this is true for all “gold” potatoes. Perhaps Dutch Gold potatoes would be easier to find in Europe.
I landed here after a huge rabbit hole of binge watching Abbey Sharp videos and now I’m adjusting my high animal product low carb diet to eating vegan two days a week (please no hate, we all have to start somewhere)…
I saw the M&S bargain Sharon fruit I should have bought more; I only picked two packs finished in two days 😆
Even when he’s being cheap it’s still too expensive for me lol
Learn how to compost and garden. You can reuse containers for pots, use seeds from produce you already buy, and compost from scraps you throw out. It can cost you next to nothing and takes less than 15 minutes a day.
Do you live in the UK? M&S are definitely in the higher price range when it comes to supermarkets. I reckon if you shopped around you could make a v similar day of eating for
@@hannahmitchell87 yes I live in the U.K. I tend to stick to Aldi

In my country fresh produce is not expensive but, buuut pb a good pb wow is pricey, all of them are imports and they come in small jars :( so I rarely eat, but fresh mangos, bananas, avocado is heaven in Mexico
Great recipe !! But I personally would minimize potatoes.....they spike your sugar levels in your blood.

You keep saying "i know this is a budget video, But", which to me indicates that you're not aware of or are willing to make the basic sacrifices to eat like the billions of people which you term are "eating on a budget." Who do you think who's eating on a budget has 30£ to throw around to buy protein powder as an upfront cost? Honestly, please introduce me to them. They must know how to budget exceptionally well.
