Watching Paul the Third's video and the tests he ran, it looks like this plugin is a huge nope. If you like what it does, great. But it seems like there really isn't any special sauce going on here, essentially well placed proportional Q frequencies, and not much else. No interactivity between the curves, very little THD, no low frequency filter. There's a lot of placebo going on in the plugin world.
That's right Micah. I did my own tests as well. Paul is correct. KIT Plugins has blocked me on Facebook for spreading the word. All that did was tell me I was right!

Got mine yesterday for a free year as I bought KIT's BB 105 Channel Strip last summer and this was included as a bonus, I guess. Only had a few minutes to play with it, but liking so far!
I’ve enjoyed the Nomad Factory version of this Motown EQ and look forward to trying this one out. I picked up the Nomad Factory version as part of the Integral Studio Pack bundle. It is sometimes on sale, and offers a wide variety of different plugin emulations.
Just got the Mo-Q and can't wait to dive in! It sounds INSANE in this video. Everything just sounds like a "sauce knob" in each range rather than an "EQ". Also, great production value and educational value on these vids. Keep crushing it!
The rarest eq was the first 6 of these EQs that were thrown in the trash and dug out by my former boss who was an engineer at motown. They were silver faced. The engineers didn’t like the curves but they sounded great. I used them for 5 years. What an honor. I will never forget the experience.

@@ColtCapperrune The Motor City EQ has a line amp output.. like the original.. something very similar to a preamp (opamp/transformer) the gain into the line in is separated to each frequency band (like each frequency band getting a channel with the whole signal) where you can attenuate or cut the entire signal at the frequency band with a bell.. then all the separate frequencies are summed and fed to the output lineamp... the second you turn it on it will sound cool.. turn the gain up (level matched) and it will get really cool.. adjust frequencies and well you know.. there is no comparing.. It's like comparing a BT50 to fabfilter (no saturation of course).. Now I would love to see you do that it will prove how wrong the BB-MOQ is.. but yeah Kit will just run the line Heritage is not the real thing and they're just scamming everyone.. like Kit trying to tell me RME drivers are known to have issues.. You know in Kit's comparison today they didn't touch the gain for the reasons mentioned above.. and then attenuated the null.. like peps don't have eyes.. Nothing about this EQ says 'Motown' to me unfortunately, seems like a plain jane eq plugin with some specific curves. Which is ok with me, they might be some nice curves but nothing about a Motown record says plain-digital EQ with no real modelling, to me. I'll be keeping my $79 on this occasion, especially when I can use a stock EQ to get the same results.
Got it yesterday. Amazing! Just adds life and depth to almost anything in your mix, some great presets as well, but easy to use and just sounds great. Great demo also in this video.

Killer plug-in I’ve put it on everything and it sounds amazing!! I also noticed by accident that in if you own the BB N-105 you get this for EQ free for a year. I see within that same information there is a hint of going to a subscription model soon :)
I use real Electrodyne 712L mic pre/eq which is nine band inductor eq and la602 line amp and it has an instant motown sound ..It's my go to pre to record everything..

The sticky point I think with this plugin is the manufacturer's BOLD claim: "the most accurate analog-modeled EQ plugin ever." Yikes & wow! So that prompted a science guy to analize it. So it is not the most accurate ever... but can still be a great sounding EQ. If they dialed back the words and simply called it "Mowtown Styled EQ" then people would not have anything legitimate to dispute about the claim.

I would really love an A/B session. as of late ive really been rethinking my outboard gear. yeah I usually hear the difference between the plugin and the original hardware. but for ordinary folk like us who dont have Warner music dealing out million dollar checks, its usually not 4 grand worth of difference. "close enough is good enough" works for me

I'd love to understand why this is and what you feel it achieves for the final product. you could go over a high track count mix and maybe demo against the same mix with some of the tracks muted. Thanks for watching, and the comment! I’m definitely not an advocate for high track count. I just tend to work on a lot of big sounding productions that often end up in a high track count. Working on a song today that will be drums, bass guitar, acoustic guitar, steel, and a single vocal. So under 20 tracks. What I am an advocate for is doing what’s right for the song. Sometimes that’s 130 tracks, sometimes it’s two. Thanks again!

I get sessions in with high track counts and I end up muting a lot of them, as I see them as extraneous. I’d love to know more about sessions where the extra tracks ARE merited. OK....when he brought in a guitar track I could then easily hear the EQ working. He probably had the drums sent to a bus which was isolated from the live stream for some reason ?
Man... Had a pair of the Langevin 252's that those were based (Langevin had faders instead of rotary pots and was fully passive where Motown built the amp around it to make up gain lost by the circuit) on for a bit. That's some gear I definitely wish I had held onto.
Another great video Colt. I downloaded the demo and went right down the line on a song I'm working on, Kick, Snare, bass, gtr, etc, etc...so far every track I placed it sounded really good. If KIT does a 2fer deal with this and the BB N105 I think I'll buy them. Great job!

I had to go back several times before leaving a comment. I was right the first time.....the EQ did absolutely nothing. What the hell are you people listening to??? The youtube audio of the drums did not change ! It would have made sense if I had heard nothing change at 12.5 Khz....but there was no perceivable change at 130 Hz nor any at 50 Hz !

I used to have all of those URS plugins. It's a shame they fizzled out. They were making some great great stuff.

A sine wave would be adequate. You need somethin with lots of harmonics like pink noise or a saw wave

I would really love an A/B session. as of late ive really been rethinking my outboard gear. yeah I usually hear the difference between the plugin and the original hardware. but for ordinary folk like us who dont have Warner music dealing out million dollar checks, its usually not 4 grand worth of difference. "close enough is good enough" works for me

I'd love to understand why this is and what you feel it achieves for the final product. you could go over a high track count mix and maybe demo against the same mix with some of the tracks muted. Thanks for watching, and the comment! I’m definitely not an advocate for high track count. I just tend to work on a lot of big sounding productions that often end up in a high track count. Working on a song today that will be drums, bass guitar, acoustic guitar, steel, and a single vocal. So under 20 tracks. What I am an advocate for is doing what’s right for the song. Sometimes that’s 130 tracks, sometimes it’s two. Thanks again!
@@ColtCapperrune ok, maybe I should rephrase: how do you determine when a high track count is merited? I get sessions in with high track counts and I end up muting a lot of them, as I see them as extraneous. I’d love to know more about sessions where the extra tracks ARE merited. OK....when he brought in a guitar track I could then easily hear the EQ working. He probably had the drums sent to a bus which was isolated from the live stream for some reason ?
Man... Had a pair of the Langevin 252's that those were based (Langevin had faders instead of rotary pots and was fully passive where Motown built the amp around it to make up gain lost by the circuit) on for a bit. That's some gear I definitely wish I had held onto.

Another great video Colt. I downloaded the demo and went right down the line on a song I'm working on, Kick, Snare, bass, gtr, etc, etc...so far every track I placed it sounded really good. If KIT does a 2fer deal with this and the BB N105 I think I'll buy them. Great job!

I had to go back several times before leaving a comment. I was right the first time.....the EQ did absolutely nothing. What the hell are you people listening to??? The youtube audio of the drums did not change ! It would have made sense if I had heard nothing change at 12.5 Khz....but there was no perceivable change at 130 Hz nor any at 50 Hz !
