San Onofre's Finest Longboarders Take Over a Perfect Mexican Point Break

- “There’s a reason why so many people come here each year, and a reason why so many people come back,” San Juan Capistrano surfer Kevin Skvarna told us when we talked to him down in Saladita during May’s Mexi Log Fest. He was talking about the machine-like and absurdly-lengthy left-hand pointbreak that drew an international contingent of more than 140 surfers to Mainland Mexico for the event.
Skvarna-who surfed his way to 3rd place this year-was part of a fairly large group of surfers at Mexi Log who regularly surf San Onofre State Beach. Along with Noah and Ben Cardoza, Brock Thompson, Wiley Archbold, Hallie Rohr, Karina Rozunko, Kyle Perez, Max Caldwell and Summer Richley, these up-and-coming loggers are already grizzled vets of Mexi Log.
This year the crew decided to extend their stay in the “San O House”(ostensibly whatever house the crew stays in becomes widely known as a kind of unofficial gathering place during the week of the contest) and pack in as much tip-time and hang time as humanly possible. The extra week found the crew from San O doing what they do best: locking into noserides, switching stances, taking off fin-first and generally just having a blast.

I didn't know there was a specific contest for long borders how nice. I sure wish I grew up on one of the coasts and learned how to surf. Hope to take the family up to the dunes of Indiana this summer and try to do a little surfing if I can stand up on the board which I've never been able to do.
Yo I did not expect to hear a This Uni song one of the sickest OC bands out there. Awesome video all around though it’s tight being able to see long boarders in the spotlight

Surfed there a bunch years ago when there was just the palapa and a couple of houses down the beach. Great fun wave.

Been there 4 times and it was Perfect every time, warm water, awesome lefts and the food was fabulous on the Beach.

First longboard vid I've watched. A Completely different experience. I found myself laughing out loud and not sure why.
The joy in the moment captured... I guess. I mean there was nothing funny, yet there I was laughing. That doesn't happen when I watch the big wave shows. Now I have to ask myself, which do I enjoy more? I'm so confused!!!

These are not true long boarders. Just imagine decades ago and actually using heavy wood based long boards. Half these people could not even carry those boards, never mind surf on them

Perfect for logging mate. Not intense minute long sand dredging tube rides. Different sort of perfection. Depends what you're riding and looking for. Different strokes for different folks. ☮😃
