There will always B an emptiness to AIC without Layne. Although William has held his own, totally a remarkable talent. That's not taking anything away from Layne, God rest his weary soul. As a poet I emphasize with Layne's poetry (lyrics) it's all I can do not to ball every time I think about how lost that man was before he left this world. There is so much anyone of could have done but only if he took the first step out of his own head. Depression is BITCH a big fat sweaty bitch that turns everything good to shit.

  • @beogradjanin81

Anyone that has the balls to cover Led Zeppelin deserves all the credit of this world. The music is not filtered through the studio gadgets and sounds very raw but that is the beauty of it. I let my mind filter the sound. Thank you AIC!!!

  • @FishinPhreak
    @FishinPhreak Год назад +10

Robert Plant has gone on record by saying that this was the most technically difficult song of LZ's entire catalog and that it took them months to peg down the final version. So for AIC to not only just hop up on stage and perform it at this level IN ADDITION TO having an entire goddamn orchestra accompanying them is a testament to just how advanced Alice really is.

Ten Years Gone might be the one for me. Page's layering of like 8 different tracks is just brilliant. The Rain Song is absurdly beautiful, too. In the Light is a relatively unknown, brilliant piece as well. I've been a big fan of Achilles' Last Stand for a real long time, definitely not discounting that song at all, or Tea for One for that matter; though, personally prefer Since I've Been Loving You for their bluesy staple. Just incredible composition in so much of their stuff - how can you possibly pick which is the best of their catalog?

I got to see Alice In Chains perform at a relatively small venue in Toronto 2009 (The Opera House) in a warmup for their upcoming tour and there was only about 850 people in attendance! The band was kind enough to meet the fans and take pictures with all of us who waited outside after the show! When I had the pleasure of looking up to the sky and meeting William Duvall (he's very tall I'm not!), I expressed to him how I was "perhaps the biggest doubter learning about a new addition, but hearing him perform was truly a blessing and I was never so happy to be proven that wrong in all my life! The chemistry was right, they all did such an amazing job, and it was honestly one of the most entertaining performances I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing!" The man was so authentically flattered and couldn't have expressed a more sincere or genuine "Thank You Very Much for such a great compliment! Thank you!!" then asked me "Is that a carburetor on your shirt!?!?!" Impressed me that he knew what a single barrel off of a 40's - earlier flathead was! He then shot the 5hit without being in any kind of a rush! The entire band didn't dismiss the fans or hesitate to engage with us, they took the time to talk to everyone! I couldn't believe that such a famous band could all be so humble! Great guys all around! That honestly made me an even bigger fan!! Now cameras and phones were banned at this event and they thoroughly searched everyone at the doors.. but I managed to smuggle one in and caught Down in A Hole, Man In The Box and Rooster if anyone is interested!

I love the way zeppelin worked the time in this song. That strong 3 against 2 feel. It is so earthy. I wish I could find a whole mess of music from the east like this.

Here's the thing... I have loved this song ever since it was released...have listened to it about 10000 times over my life time, but am only now hearing that there are actually lyrics. For me, Plants performance and voice was more like another instrument in the mix.. Not somebody actually singing. I now know why I can't be blow'd away by anybody covering this particular song. The singers sound somebody singing lyrics over the insteuments
..their voices aren't an instrument like Plants'was on this song....
That being said, it is not a slight on Duvall ...there were some rough patches but I still enjoyed it.
Poor dude! Talk about pressure... Having to fill in for 2 of rock's greatest voices of all time.
    Still, I like him.

+JaguarStar Thanks JS. Actually, didn't Heart start off as LZ cover band? They do fantastic LZ covers. I haven't heard Ofra's name in years! Thanks for tips and reminder. All the best!

+kojam1 Buddy - first paragraph is exactly what I would have said and your history to this song very, very similar to mine. The vocals on this song though are nothing on Plants as you state as he sounds like a strangled cat when stretched to extend the respective chord. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

The lyrics are a bonus. Appreciate the first 99 levels, Page & Bonham....song doesn't need lyrics....still kick ass 👍

I have to agree plants voice in the original recording is like another sound to me and not really a voice, the true mystique that is ZEPPELIN.

True, I often had a hard time telling what Plant was saying, but, as you've said, Plants voice WAS like a fourth instrument. His grunts, groans, trills, add ons, etc were not just about lyrics but sound. So true.

think God for bands that show their roots of their influences and not afraid to show or play it. It keeps the classics alive and be rediscovered by today's generation for whom have no idea else wise.

This is an amazing cover! I honestly don't think they could have covered this with layne either. It just shows that while both singers are amazing, Duvall brings other things to the table

    • @donovanm5128

I sure as hell can imagine layne singing it. In Mad Season he sang in more traditional type rock music and sounded great.

@@donovanm5128 William has a more seductive/sweet quality to his voice that is Plant-ier, whereas Layne's was a howl of pain from his guts. I do agree with OP that William is bringing things to this interpretation that Layne couldn't.

@Jerry Cantrell IF you are REALLY JC of AIC, I'm doing good, and I hope you are doing good too. I'm flattered to have you post/reply to my posts.
Now, IF you are REALLY a scammer, do NOT ask me about helping you with some BS that requires me sending you money, etc. Steven Tyler tried to do that to me :)
Not REALLY him, but, you know what I mean?

    • @juliegogola4647

@Jerry Cantrell My reply really explained what I meant. If you are REALLY JC, I am flattered by your posting to me, BUT, I have been posted to by supposedly Steven Tyler, and he asked me about "helping him" with something that sounded "fishy" to me, so, the REAL JC, would know what I meant and leave it at that, I can NOT say for sure WHO has posted to me, so, IF you are JC, GREAT, LOVE ya, IF NOT, go and Fuck yourself!! Okay....
