@@joshuaj.chinda9873 I don't think these two that I mentioned are any less legends than the ones you mentioned first. But it's ok! It's normal to like some musicians more than others!
A few years ago I had the pleasure of conducting the Belleville Philharmonic Orchestra in this medley. The score was coupled with movie clips compiled by Disney to be performed simultaneously with the clips. It was a wonderful experience.
The reflection orchestration makes me feel strength and heartache at the same time. I don't know why. The ending makes me feel like I've gone on a journey and now it is time to rest. My God this suite brings me to tears every time I hear it. I also admire how the composer used the instruments to create a far eastern sound.
This can relate to so many stories in Chinese history. A mixture of chaos, wars, family loyalty and self sacrifice. It’s amazing how an American composer got that so right.
This entire suite is amazing! 🎻🎵 I find the 2:39 - 3:27 section to be particularly moving. Gives me chills every time. Thank you for posting this classic piece!
As I’ve gotten older I’ve really come to appreciate the Reflection song in the movie, and wow does it translate well to symphonic orchestra. The sweeping violins around 3:00 are beautiful, touching, and give me chills.
I just heard this for the first time and I suddenly came across a feeling so beautiful and spiritual from listening to this that I tried so hard not to cry,did anyone felt the same way?
If you listened to this music you'd think it was from some epic Samuri blockbuster or something. Not that Mulan is _not_ epic, I'm not saying that but it just goes to show how great the music is.
@@justanotherbohemian3827 I suggest you check out Xiran Jaoy Zhao's youtube video on it, but... It is. The movie is banned in China and people want a boycott. I can't even go into detail on how disrespectful it is in EVERY WAY IT POSSIBLY COULD BE. Even Yui Fei (Mulan) supports Hong Kong police brutality no shame. And she's the one who "worked tirelessly" in the audition to get it. DO NOT watch the movie, even to hate watch.
Listening to this now after the new Milan came out puts tears in my eyes I love HGW but his score not anywhere glorious as Goldsmith the film score art truely missed a legend may Mr Goldsmith Rest In Peace.
Watching this (or listening I guess) the day live action Mulan comes out. I don't know what they new version will be like, but I will always love the soundtrack to the old one and this suite encompasses the best parts of it.
This is imo the greatest piece of music ever composed for a Disney film, by the great Jerry Goldsmith. I often just play this on loop whenever I need my emotions moved. I wish all the films had some "suite" version of their scores with all the main songs/motifs all mixed into one piece, I think this is the only one to have something like this. To go from Short Hair 0:00 to Reflection 1:43 to Honor to Us All 3:36 to the main theme 5:00 is just masterful. The final climax at 6:17 is unspeakably cathartic, I'm moved every single time. This 2023 version from Berklee Motion Picture Orchestra worked in I'll Make a Man Out of You very nicely: ruclips.net/video/zoUCdqzcNN4/видео.html
This (I assume) was intended as the end credits music for 'Mulan', although it might have had to be edited, because I don't think the film's end credits run 6 minutes plus. It's the only time that both Goldsmith's score (first and end parts) are heard together with the songs ('Reflection' first and then 'Honour To Us All'). Goldsmith had no part in the songs (by Mathew Wilder and David Zippel) and the songs and score work independently in the film.
@@FranticAnimations Have you even heard Joe Hisaishi's music. It is phenomenal. Jerry Goldsmith is amazing, but you gotta give Joe Hisaishi a try, you'll love it.
I wish they’d included a bit more of the original score into the live action version, this is beautiful, epic, emotional, triumphant, amazing
Jerry Goldsmith,James Horner,James Newton Howard, John Williams, Hans Zimmer are the Fantastic Five of Music Legends they are.
I'd like to add Harry-Gregson Williams and Alan Menken on that list!

Jerry Goldsmith, May he ever Rest in Peace. He produced some of the best movie and ride scores.

The suite is magical.

And it's not John Williams!!!
Jerry Goldsmith was Oscar-nominated for this. Alas, he didn't win. He lost to Stephen Warbeck for *Shakespeare in Love.*

Well the remake looks to be an actual epic movie of that nature
Tad Strange too bad Jerry Goldsmith is long dead to come back and score the new film.

This was such an amazing film, I'm heartbroken by what they did to it with the live action.
brings back childhood memories ;)
Jerry Goldsmith reminds of a hybrid of John Williams orchestra with Hans Zimmer synths.
Perfectly apt description.
1:02 is my favorite part
Hopefully you don't delete this OST, love it :)
it a reflection, but a happy orchestra.
5:40-6:19 Heard a little bit of the opening titles from Star Trek: First Contact right here.

Yes!! I thought I was the only one who heard it. 🎶 😎

awesome emotional piece
Pretty sure the one who orchestrated this studied a lot Puccini's orchestration in "Turandot"

From 6:00 to 6:15 it sounds like soundtrack from the Julngle Book (2016).

Does anyone know in which part of the movie this was played?
Throughout the entire film, the suite is a combination of tracks from varying themes and emotional peaks.

Kinda reminds me of Studio Ghibli's head composer. Maybe not as spectactular, but this is great in its own right.

Sorry but Goldsmith's music is overall better than Studio Ghibli's main composer. Goldsmith was a legend, RIP.

@@KnotPhound Of course I have, but Jerry had much more variety and adapted to the decade really well while keeping to his own style.
Reminds me of Kung Fu Panda. Probably because there both set in China.
