    Here's a simple way to raise the seat in an ascend H series kayak. It may work for other kayas, but I can't say for sure.

    you could always plastidip the ends of your seat bars to stop them from digging into the gunwales. they would be less slippery too.

    Great fix and only thing i would add is welding another hoop to back side of chair legs

    For the seat issue, I just put a thick marine foam on the seat, gain 2” , put foam tube swim toy under seat, gain another 1.5 , total = 3.5 inch gain without lost of balance. Cheers.

    I dig it man,I just bought an H10 and love it and my only complaint was the seat wasn’t high enough

    This is genius! Great idea... I have a recommendation for improvement: use exactly the same steel tube, but cut/weld it so that the bars form a cradle.
    Exactly the same principle. Steel laying on top of the gunnel, 90 (welded) angle down (dropping the seat level down to whatever height you want), then across (under the seat), and match the other side.
    One bar for the front, and one for the back.
    Fixes center of gravity issue. Fixes the left/right sliding issue. Gets you the ideal seat height.
    Awesome innovation, dude!

    Can always add outriggers from boat bumpers if you feel like its unstable to stand.

    That's a good idea, looks comfortable. I used to just use a lawn chair in my canoe and it was a bit more comfortable than the standard seat. 👍

    what's the story behind that vertical support from the floor to that brace right behind the seat? Thanks!

      Not sure what you're talking about. I had something to hold the battery. Maybe that's what yo're seeing.

    I remember rowing on a crew team in highschool and the gunwale of the laminated carbon fiber racing shells would smash against the hand grasping the end of the oars. I ended up with so many callouses and my lumbar spine got permanently bent to the left side while it was still ossification during puberty.

    Do you think that you could use this same thing for a canoe?

  • @gregvandecar3307

    I built one. It was extremely unstable and top heavy.

    Why would someone dislike this video?????? If their not a fan of the idea just dont use it. But the message was delivered very clearly and concisely. Great video Dan wish I could give it 2 thumbs up to off set that moron. Lol

      Lol all my non fish keeping get a bit of hate on them. I think some people see this as a "fish keeping channel" rather than simply being "my channel". They act like I'm posting kayak vids on a fish keeping community. Lol

    Like the idea, only concern... does the seat slide side to side on the metal rails or how is it locked in place now? Thanks

    • @DanHiteshew-oneandonly
      @DanHiteshew-oneandonly  4 года назад

      It didn't "lock" in place, but you'd have to do some serious scootching around to shift it.

    I just purchased a H10 and I love it, but as you I hate setting low, Exactly how unstable is your kayak with that seat?

    • @DanHiteshew-oneandonly
      @DanHiteshew-oneandonly  4 года назад

      It was pretty wobbly, but I didn't fall or anything. It definitely puts your center of gravity well above the Gunwale.

      I have an h10 as well and I just bought lounger chair from cabelas that fits in almost perfect just needs to be lifted up like an inch which you can just use pool noodle for...its a chair for hunting turkeys I believe gives a bit of height without sacking the stability to much

      @@hotmail316 hey I also have an H10, and looked at those turkey stools a week or so ago. How did it work out for you?

    • @hotmail316
      @hotmail316 3 года назад

      @@migiddymike1403 it works decent, the chair I got had too low of cross rods so it hit the the water run thing..but I rigged it up a bit and if your not in crazy waves and just cruising its comfortable and not really that much less stable. so pros its more comfy and you sit up higher for fishing , cons getting it to fit in was a tad tricky and your legs are on a bit of a funny angle but still comfy (theres potential for a nice rig tho)

    How much stability do you give up by making this mod? Like does it go from a 9/10 stability to a 5/10? Also how does it feel to extend your legs at this different angle? I have a feeling I have to make this mod on my H10 because my fish finder sits to high. Please let me know!
    Thanks!

    • @DanHiteshew-oneandonly
      @DanHiteshew-oneandonly  4 года назад

      It was definitely less stable, but not terrible. It took a little getting used to, but if you really need more room, it's great. If you don't like it, there's no real investment. Just set it back in it's original setting.

      @@DanHiteshew-oneandonly Yeah, I went and bought a $2 piece after I watched your video. Only reason its so important to me is because my fishfinder is extremely high being on a cellblock and the seat so low. So if I increase my seat, I'll have height on my fishfinder. I have the balance to stand in my H10, but it took getting use to. If you have issues standing, practice in lilypads or grassmats

    Couldn’t you add another seat for a second person to sit and y’all “kayak” out on the bay when the waters still? And you’ll have so much more space that a regular sit on top kayak?

    • @DanHiteshew-oneandonly
      @DanHiteshew-oneandonly  4 года назад +1

      It's a bit small for two people.

    • @texasfish9437
      @texasfish9437 4 года назад +1

      Dan Hiteshew I have a 13.5 ft perception and a 12.8 could fit two five foot people that’s about ten feet with two bodies but if you add another seat we’re sitting at a 90 degree angle
