    Thanks for the Review. I'm 5'11 and 275, so, like you, I am "good looking sized". I have actually been somewhat "afraid" to get into a kayak but my wife and kids love them. I think I am going to pull the trigger and get either this one of the H-10, I haven't decided yet.

      I hope it helped! The H12 is great for carrying lots a gear and tracks better (doesn't drift off course as easily), but heavier to move around and not as maneuverable. It's a tough call for sure.

    Great video! What’s the most number of nights you camping using this kayak? Did you bring your own water on those trips and were you able to store it well in this kayak?

  • @haskellwarrior2443

    That center section is designed to reduce water resistance such as heavy wakes and ablet on glide through . It's not designed for standing up in but the full cavity ones are though

    On a another video I watched the guy adjusted the seat the way he wanted and then zip tied it to the Ascend H12 so that if it flipped the seat would remain inside.

      My only issue with that is that I like being able to pull it out to use as a camp chair

    Thanks for the review. This kayak is going to be perfect for me then. And yes, you definitely need more practice on standing up on kayaks. I'm able to stand up with good balance really quickly on kayaks that don't have flat surfaces. And it took some time before I finally got it down. But yes, definitely standing up from seated position takes practice esp with the small amount of space you have in a kayak.

    That was a nice review you did of your kayak. I wish you had a video of you kayaking in it. I have a real close buddy of mine he is looking for a kayak. He's about 325 Ibs I will share this with him cuz I would love to see him have a kayak too so we both can go kayaking. I like the covers on the kayak too. I have a question? Does the boat hold a lot of water then you like put your feet inside the kayak or come over the kayak. I would it be easier to kayak barefooted 👣. Thank you for sharing your video.

      The "pontoons" can collect water, but overall, the gunnel is high enough to keep the water out for me. Hope this helps!

    Im a big guy also, I want to buy a kayak i can stand on while fishing would hate to buy one that I don't like . I love the space in the h12, always thought it would cool to float a river at night and make stops to coyote hunt.

      Personally, I'm more comfortable standing up on a sit on top kayak, however, I have gotten better/ more comfortable standing in the H12.

    Is it easy to paddle and does it track well? I'm seriously thinking about upgrading to a more stable kayak Hybrid that is more stable and I can Catfish out of and has more storage space.

    Looking at buying one,I live in Minnesota what to use for the BWCA and there is a lot of portages so how would you carry this Kayak do they make yokes to haul on your shoulders

    • @generallyoutdoors
      @generallyoutdoors  3 года назад +1

      You could probably make your own yoke, but due to the seat being removable, and therefore already difficult to keep in place, you'd either want to design something to address that or look into a different for form of transport like a dolly perhaps.

    Are the handles accessable from underneath? To be changed out.

    • @generallyoutdoors
      @generallyoutdoors  Год назад

      They have screws, accessible from the top by folding the handles over that are threaded into metal inserts and are removable.

    How is the hull holding up now that you have had it a little while?

    • @generallyoutdoors
      @generallyoutdoors  Год назад

      It's the same as when I first got it. A little more flex than I'd prefer, but holding up well all things considered.

    • @generallyoutdoors
      @generallyoutdoors  4 года назад +1

      As long you place the bow on top of your vehicle first and then pick up the stern end and slide it into place, it's very manageable solo. Be aware though, although seat has the two tether points it can still fall out if the boat gets turned up too much.

      Having the drag rope that I talk about in the video helps me alot, but I'm still getting the hang of standing up myself. The only real tip I have for getting in and out would be get parallel to the shore whenever the water depth allows. It's easier on yourself and the boat compared to the "straight out" approach most people seem to take. Hope this helps!

      Raise your seat to rail height! Simply mount the seat on heavy-wall 1” aluminum angle, cut to length to fit in the moulding at your adjustment notches. Then, use a pull rope. The farther forward you tie it, the better it works. Good fishing!

    I have the h10, never understood the mesh or rubber covers. The thing is so deep you dont have to worry about anything falling overboard and its a FISHING kayak. Last thing i want is my gear to have to fit under a cover or have to remove bungees to access it. My covers have never been removed from the box lol. Cooler in the back (taller than the cover allows) and 5 gallon bucket full of tackle boxes anchor knives pliers plastics ets in the front also taller than cover allows. If water is coming in its coming in, this is a very OPEN boat, that cover aint helping, its just a gimmick to make it look fancier than it is. Its a bare bones (mostly) functional fishing yak for small bodies of water and slow moving rivers. The bow and stern covers are USELESS and more of a hindrance than a help. I assumed they were compartments until i bought one. If youre over 6 feet tall your feet will be IN the front "compartment" the only thing seperating the bow and stern from the cockpit is the crossmember on top. The forward facing and the crossmembers is what makes it a "Hybrid" its just a narrow forward facing canoe.
    You cant stand in an h12 cause youre built like Private Pyle. Im 6'4'' and 220 and i can use my h10 like a stand up paddle board. a 12 footer is even easier. Most kayak fisherman arent built like they go to hometown buffet for breakfast lunch and dinner. Thank god youre a "hardcore" nalgene user and this kayak accommodates your hardcore use of a brand of water bottle that you fill with kool-aid. You aint big boned. I eat like dog shit too but i dont pretend i dont. I dont pretend im a hardcore nalgene user either. I start every summer at 250-260lbs and because of actually USING my kayak to fish instead of taking selfies on it with my nalgene bottle with a caption that says "fitness can be fun!" i end the summer at about 190...i put it back on by february but its gone again by august. Im a hardcore budweiser user. That nalgene bottle is doing wonders lol, If i worked for nalgene i would sue you for defamation..
    Save the comments im fully aware im an asshole.

      So I have an ascent fs10 and I'm looking for a 2nd kayak I'm 6' 160# and would like to stand so i can sight fish . I spend about 8 hours a day fishing and about 3 times a week would this be a good kayak in your opinion for some one who usually drinks a 3 pack of tall cans in that 4 to 8 hour time frame
